Mary Nila, age 85 of North Platte, passed away Thursday June 4, 2015 at Centennial Park Nursing Home.
Mary was born on August 23, 1929 in North Platte, NE to Rosalio Charles and Petra (Torres) Hernandez. She attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and married Juan Porfirio Nila on January 31, 1950 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. To this union eight children were born, Peggy, Natalie, George, Julie, Russell, Markos, Sarah, and Feliciana. Mary loved her grandchildren and took part in raising Lee Anna, Juan, Joaquinn, Clifton and Robyn. She worked as a housekeeper for Judge Dietrich, was an elevator operator at the Pawnee Hotel, she also worked at TRW in Ogallala for 14 years and for the North Platte Public Schools for 16 years. Mary’s favorite pastime activities included creating paper dolls, embroidering, reading and canning vegetables from her garden. She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her children Peggy (Fred) Mata of North Platte, George Nila of North Platte, Julie Govan of Tacoma, WA, Russell Nila of North Platte, Markos (Kim) Nila of North Platte, Sarah Nila of Ft. Collins, CO, and Feliciana Nila of North Platte; 20 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; as well as other extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Juan; infant daughter Natalie; grandson Louis Govan; and siblings Paul Deluna, Martin Deluna, Jason Garcia, Cecil Hernandez, Enos Hernandez, and Jenny Ponce.
Memorials are suggested in her name and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Christian Wake Service will be 7:00 p.m. Sunday June 7, 2015 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday June 8, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Reverend Michael Pampara officiating with inurnment following at North Platte Cemetery. Cremation was chosen and those wishing to do so may sign the register book from noon until 9:00 p.m. Sunday June 7, 2015 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
