Argument over money leads to knife attack in NP

Logan Johnston

A 23-year-old North Platte man is facing charges after he allegedly attacked a man with a knife during an argument over money.

On October 13, at around 3:27 p.m., North Platte Police responded to a residence in the 13oo block of North Carr Street on the report of an assault.

Officers met with several individuals and determined that a 25-year-old male had been cut with a knife.

According to witnesses, 23-year-old Logan Johnston and the victim live at the residence with several other people.

The investigation revealed that Johnston and several subjects had gotten into an argument over money.

At one point, Johnston allegedly began to chase another male with a knife.  Then, investigators say another male tackled Johnston and the two wrestled on the ground.

During the skirmish, Johnson reportedly cut the other man.

Investigator John Deal says a knife was recovered at the scene and Johnston was placed under arrest.  He’s been charged with felony aggravated assault, felony terroristic threats and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Deal says the victim was transported to Great Plains Health where he received treatment for a cut near his armpit area.  The injury was not serious and the victim was treated and released.

Agents in Omaha seize large amount of fentanyl, arrest man

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Federal authorities have arrested a man after what officials say is was the largest seizure of the drug fentanyl ever in Nebraska.

Drug Enforcement Administration agents arrested 27-year-old Edgar Navarro-Aguirre on Wednesday after seizing about 33 pounds of the drug, which is an opioid up to 50 times more potent than heroin. Even tiny doses of the drug can be fatal.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Navarro-Aguirre was traveling on an Amtrak train and was waiting at the Omaha station when agents noticed a suspicious bag. After getting approval to search the bag, they found the fentanyl.

Navarro-Aguirre faces charges of possession with intent to distribute a substance containing fentanyl. His initial federal court appearance will be Friday afternoon.

It wasn’t clear if he has a lawyer who could discuss the matter.

The potential street value was estimated at around $15 million.

It’s Boy Scouts vs. Girl Scouts as BSA moves to admit girls

NEW YORK (AP) — The Boy Scouts’ dramatic move to admit girls throughout its ranks is fracturing a mostly cordial coexistence with the Girl Scouts and will escalate competition between the iconic youth groups.

The Girl Scouts say they’ve known for months that the Boy Scouts were considering opening their ranks to girls. They say the Boy Scouts should have reached out to share the information before Wednesday’s announcement.

Under the Boy Scouts’ new plan, girls will be welcomed into the Cub Scouts next year. A program for older girls that mirrors the Boy Scout curriculum is expected to start in 2019.

Lisa Margosian is the Girl Scout’s chief customer officer. She says the Girl Scouts will “double down” with a commitment to empowering girls.

Both organizations have recently experienced sharp drops in membership.

Bullinger says when he saw Miezejeski’s predicament, he quickly got jacks from his garage and used them to free Miezejeski. Bullinger says Miezejeski “was turning purple” by that time.

A neighbor called 911.
