2nd man imprisoned for cathedral robbery, assault of woman

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A man who helped another man rob a 76-year-old woman at Omaha’s St. Cecilia Cathedral has been given six to eight years in prison.

Online court records say 21-year-old Larry Leggett was sentenced Wednesday. He’d pleaded no contest to robbery. The judge credited him with 439 days already served.

Surveillance video of the Aug. 16, 2015, crime shows the woman was reading the parish newsletter at the cathedral entrance when two men approached her. One stole her purse and the other punched her in the head, causing the woman to hit her head against the side of a table as she fell.

Leggett’s accomplice, 24-year-old Wayman Clark, last month was sentenced to 10 to 12 years in prison for robbery and assault.

Game and Parks seeks information about vandalism at Lake McConaughy

martin-bayThe Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is seeking information on vandalism at Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area.

The Martin Bay RV dump station was damaged beyond repair sometime between the night of Oct. 15 and Oct. 16. There are no suspects at this time.

A vehicle had illegally driven off-road up the bank at the back of Martin Bay over the top of the dump station’s septic tanks. The vehicle got stuck and then caused the damage while trying to get unstuck.

The dump station cannot be repaired because of its age and Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality regulations. It will be replaced with a system that meets current standards and regulations. The required design and construction of the replacement could take a year or more to complete.

Anyone with any information about the incident should contact Conservation Officer Scott Eveland at 308-289-0017. For more information, contact Park Superintendent Colby Johnson at 308-289-6955.
