A scuffle between carnival workers resulted in an Indiana man getting free room and board at the Lincoln County Detention Center.

At around 12:45 p.m. on June 17, Officers with the North Platte Police responded to Great Plains Regional Medical Center on the report of a prior assault that occurred at the Wild West Arena.

Upon arrival, the 56-year-old male victim told police that 36-year-old Stephen Terrell had intentionally kicked him in the face causing him severe pain and serious injury.

The victim told Police that he and Terrell had both been working the Fun House at the carnival at the Arena when they became engaged in a verbal argument that turned physical.

Officers made contact with Terrell at the carnival, and following further investigation, they determined there was probable cause to arrest Terrell.  He was charged with 1st Degree Assault and transported to the jail.

1st Degree Assault is a Class II Felony.

Blair Woman Charged After Becoming Combative with Police and GPRMC Staff

A Blair woman is facing several felony charges after she became combative with Police and medical personnel.

At around 1:30 a.m. on June 15, North Platte Police responded to the Motel 6 parking lot on the report of a suspicious female in dark clothing wearing a gas mask and attempting to get into vehicles parked at the motel.

While officers were on the scene, another witness recalled seeing a similar female dressed in a white dress wearing a gas mask.

A short time later, 30-year-old Tarren Wolsmann was located by Officers at McDonald’s.  Police say she refused to leave the property.

Officers learned that while Wolsmann was in the restaurant, she had grabbed a customer’s purse and demanded that someone transport her to the hospital.  She requested that officers have an ambulance dispatched to the scene.

While waiting for an ambulance, Wolsmann entered a Lincoln County Sheriff’s patrol vehicle, from which she had to be physically removed and restrained.

Due to her combative and delusional state, she was transported to Great Plains Regional Medical Center by Police.  While at the Emergency Room, Police say Wolsmann became voluntarily unresponsive and non-compliant with Police and medical staff, and slapped a hospital staff member.

At this time, she was placed in emergency protective custody.

Following an evaluation at the hospital, Wolsmann was charged with Attempted Theft of a Motor Vehicle, 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief and Assault of a Health Care Professional.  She was jailed at the Lincoln County Detention Center.

Freakish Accident Kills McCook Woman

fatal-accident(AP) — A 70-year-old McCook woman has been killed in a freakish accident with her minivan.

Authorities think Patricia Peters got out of her minivan on Friday while it was in neutral and tried to put something in the vehicle or arrange something already on the passenger side.

Peters apparently got caught and pulled under the minivan when it rolled backward down her driveway, across a street and struck a parked vehicle.

Oglala Sioux Tribal President Arrested in Nebraska

oglala-tribe(AP) — The president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe has been arrested during a protest of alcohol sales in Nebraska, on the border of South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Tribal President Bryan Brewer was taken into custody Monday in Whiteclay, as activists protested the town’s alcohol sales on the border of the officially dry reservation.

Deputy Sheridan County Attorney Jamian Simmons says Brewer was arrested on a 2012 warrant for passing a bad check for $191 to a veterinary clinic. Simmons says Brewer was taken to Rushville, where he paid the amount that he owed and was released. She says the charges will be dismissed.

Brewer and his spokeswoman did not answer their cellphones or respond to text messages. Their voicemails were disabled.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says in its weekly crop report released Monday that Nebraska’s corn is 100 percent emerged in line with the normal average.

In Iowa where soggy fields have hampered planting, 12 percent of the crop is in poor condition, worse among the 18 leading corn growing states, 4 percent is very poor and 6 percent hasn’t been planted yet.

Nebraska’s soybeans are 77 percent good or excellent, 21 percent fair and just 2 percent poor. Ninety percent has emerged, which is near average.

Nebraska Officials Cancel Paper Recycling Contract

State Auditor Mike Foley

(AP) — Nebraska officials are canceling their contract with a Lincoln-based paper recycling firm after auditors found that the state failed to collect more than $60,000 from the company.

Auditor Mike Foley tells The Associated Press that Shredding Solutions, Inc. was required to pay a market rate for the paper that it picked up from state offices and sold for other uses.

Foley says the company paid a flat $25 per ton under a “verbal agreement” when the market rate ranged from $55 to $100 per ton. Auditors found that, over time, the company’s required monthly payments became increasingly late and sporadic.

Nebraska has since recouped more than $27,000. A state administrator says Nebraska is soliciting new bids under a simpler contract.

Shredding Solutions Inc. declined to comment.

Mother Nature Had Plans of Her Own for Father’s Day

Severe weather rolled through Central and Southwest Nebraska Sunday afternoon, spoiling many a Father’s Day Barbecue.

Large hail and damaging thunderstorm winds prompted Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and even several tornado warnings, including a public reported tornado near Hyannis in Cherry County, and funnel clouds reported by spotters in Dawson, Buffalo and Custer Counties.

A semi-trailer was overturned between Lexington and Overton in Dawson County.  The Post has no confirmed report on whether a tornado or straight line winds caused the accident.  Wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour were reported in several Counties.

Ping pong and golf ball sized hail was reported in Perkins, Hayes, Grant and Cherry Counties.

Torrential rains also accompanied the storms.

North Platte was once again the dividing point in the line of storms that split as they entered Lincoln County.  At one point, warnings were in effect to the north, south, east and west of the city.  North Platte received a few sprinkles and some rumbles of thunder.

NE Secretary of State Issues Warning About Direct Mailer

Secretary of State John Gale

(AP) — The Nebraska Secretary of State’s office is warning about a direct-mail request that seeks money from businesses.

Secretary of State John Gale says his office has received calls about the mailer, which purports to be from a business that calls itself Corporate Records Service. The mailer is titled “2013 Annual Minutes Form,” and it urges businesses to send information and a $125 payment.

The solicitations include a reference to the Nebraska Business Corporation Act. The mailer appears official, but Nebraska officials say the service isn’t necessary for businesses to maintain good standing in the state.

Anyone with information about frauds and scams should call the Attorney General’s office at 800-727-6432.
