NORTH PLATTE, NEB.- On August 22nd, 2012, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office began using our new Decatur 350 Radar Speed Display Trailer. The trailer was purchased with money found in an October 2011 traffic stop, Deputies determined the money was drug money and seized it. The seized money can only be used to purchase equipment for the Sheriff’s Office. Additionally matching grant funds were awarded to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety for part of the purchase.
The Decatur 350 has an 18 inch LED display visible from 1000 feet, as well as a data collection component. The data obtained from the trailer will assist Deputies as it can generate various reports such as; Maximum traffic speeds, average traffic speeds, traffic time / speed intervals, number of vehicles above traffic speed limit and total number of vehicles on the roadway.
In its first week of deployment the trailer is being used in the Village of Hershey specifically in the school zones and during this weekend’s local celebration. The trailer will be deployed anywhere in the county when the need arises, helping Deputies efficiently manage traffic issues.
The central Nebraska town of Callaway has raised enough cash to save its nursing home.
The Evangelical Good Samaritan Society announced plans last September to close the nursing home. A week ago, it gave the town until 5 p.m. on Tuesday to raise $250,000 to complete the deal. If not, the nursing home would close Nov. 5.
Organizer Ron Jorgensen says two-thirds of the money was raised Monday night during a community meeting with surrounding towns. He then “signed off” on the agreement on Tuesday with Good Samaritan.
The newly created nonprofit Callaway Good Life Center will take over the nursing home in about 60 days. The home can serve about 40 residents and has 36 employees
Jorgensen says people “came out of the woodwork” to contribute.

The closure of a dairy packaging operation will cost nearly 70 people their jobs in the central Nebraska town of Ravenna.
Authorities say the Schreiber Foods operation will be closed by the end of February. The closing apparently won’t affect workers at Leprino Foods, who share the building and make the cheese that Schreiber packages.
Schreiber Foods says it’s closing the operation because new automation equipment the company wants to install will need more room than is available at the Ravenna site.
Spokesman Andrew Tobisch for Green Bay, Wis.-based Schreiber says the Ravenna production will be moving to another of the company’s 18 U.S. facilities.

(Scottsbluff, Neb.)-The Nebraska State Patrol in conjunction with the Box Butte County Attorney’s Office has confirmed that remains uncovered in a remote area south of Chadron in June are those of a missing Denver man.
“Forensic examination and DNA testing has been completed,” said Investigative Services Lieutenant Monica Bartling. “The tests have confirmed what we suspected all along. The remains uncovered in Dawes County are those of Josh Bullock.”
Bullock, 38, who lived in Denver, but had family and friends in the Alliance and Chadron areas was reported missing in early December 2011, after visiting family members in Alliance. Investigators with the Nebraska State Patrol, in conjunction with the Dawes and Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office, began an investigation into Bullock’s disappearance. On December 14, 2011, his burnt pickup was found by a rancher in a ravine, southeast of Chadron.
The case remained active but with few leads until June 12, 2012, when investigators say Andres Gonzalez, a 27-year old Alliance man who held officers at bay during a 14 hour standoff in downtown Alliance, told negotiators he killed Bullock. Investigators believe Gonzalez killed Bullock on or around December 1, 2011 and that he disposed of his body in a remote area of Dawes County.
Charges have been filed in the case against Rose Siefke, 20, Hemingford. Siefke, a former girlfriend of Gonzalez, has been charged as an Accessory to a Felony in connection with Bullock’s death. She is currently free on bond.
Lt. Bartling said, “We hope this confirmation will bring some closure to Josh’s family and friends. At the same time we will continue our investigation as we work to piece together the events that led to his death
