Diaz comes clean with Prosecutors – Facing 50 years in

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) — A North Platte man suspected of killing his wife has made a deal with prosecutors and pleaded no contest to attempted second-degree murder.

Thirty-five-year-old Rogelio Diaz was charged with second-degree murder in the death of 35-year-old Michelle Diaz at their home on June 25 last year.

Rogelio Diaz faces up to 50 years in prison when he’s sentenced on Aug. 27.

He’d first told investigators that Michelle Diaz had passed out because of the heat, and then told them they’d fallen off of their porch and he’d landed on top of her.

Prosecutors say Diaz finally admitted that he and his wife had been fighting and that he’d tossed her off the porch.

Good news, you won’t have to enjoy being drunk in the rain!

North Platte Neb. (North Platte Post) Good news comes to anyone planning on enjoying a drink or two this year at the Lincoln County Fair.

At the Lincoln County Commissioners Meeting July 16th the Commissioners motioned to pass a plan for an alternate location for the location of the “Beer Garden” or “Liquor Tent” in the event bad weather strikes.

If bad weather occurs the consumption of alcohol will be located within an in-door arena at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds.

With good news like that the only thing you have to worry about is where you’re going to smoke if it rains, if you’re a smoker that is!

The Nebraska Corn Board speaks about recent farm deaths

HASTINGS, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska Corn Board is urging farmers to take precautions when unloading grain bins.

The warning came after a Nebraska man died Wednesday in a grain bin accident. Authorities say 33-year-old Jeffrey Schardt of Ruskin was killed when a grain auger he was trying to move fell over and pinned him to the ground.

The corn board says farmers and workers should use the buddy system when they are inside a grain bin.

Board chairman Alan Tiemann says people can suffocate with only 12 inches of grain covering them. He says that amount of grain would place nearly 50 pounds of pressure per cubic foot on the human body.
