Missing girl from McCook found safe (Update)

MCCOOK, Neb. (AP) — Authorities are searching for a missing western Nebraska girl.

15-year-old Kathryn “Katie” Brawdy was reported missing on Thursday.

Authorities say Brawdy was last seen wearing a gray tank top, blue denim shorts and turquoise flip-flops. She is 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighs about 135 pounds, and has brown hair and blue eyes.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the McCook Police Department at 308-345-3450.

UPDATE: Katie was found safe on Saturday afternoon.

35 Year old Kearney Woman charged with Embezzlement

OVERTON, Neb. (AP) — A 35-year-old Kearney woman has been charged with 14 counts of theft from her employer in Dawson County.

The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office says Faith Hampton was arrested on Thursday. She also is charged with unauthorized use of a financial transaction device.

The sheriff’s office says Hampton, who also is known as Faith Rader, was investigated after Brennan Farms & Livestock, of rural Overton, reported in February that it suspected embezzlement by an employee.

A Dawson County jailer said Hampton remained in custody on Friday, pending $100,000 bail. It’s unclear whether she has an attorney. Online court records don’t list the case yet.

Chadron Firefighters find body in apartment fire

CHADRON, Neb. (AP) — A Dawes County official has confirmed that a body was found by firefighters battling flames in a Chadron apartment.

County Attorney Vance Haug (howg) said in a news release Thursday that an autopsy has been ordered. Haug isn’t releasing the victim’s name until a positive identification is made and relatives are notified.

Firetrucks were sent to the old Blaine Hotel a little after 8 p.m. Wednesday. Fire Chief Pat Gould says flames were contained to a single second-floor apartment, but there was smoke damage to the second and third floors.

The fire cause is being investigated.

Terroristic Threats send NP man to the Pokey

North Platte Neb. (N.P.P.D.) On July 8th, 2012 Deputies responded to the Welcome Inn, 4601 West Highway 30.   It was reported a male subject had a gun and was pointing at another subject. 

 

Upon arrival Deputies made contact with several subjects outside the motel.   It was reported thirty seven year old Alejandro Mares had pointed a gun at another subject and said he was going to shoot him.   Mr. Mares was located and detained while interviews were conducted with the victim and witness.

 

Deputies searched several areas and did locate a gun, it was identified by the victim as the one pointed at him.    The weapon was a black semiautomatic BB gun; this type of gun is an exact replica of a real handgun.       Mr. Mares was arrested and transported to the Lincoln County Detention Center.  Mr. Mares was charged with Terroristic Threats and Obstructing a Police Officer.

Samantha Eyten sentenced in Dog Kennel Case

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) — The last person to be sentenced in the North Platte kids-in-a-kennel case also has been given probation.

25-year-old Samantha Eyten was given a year of probation when she was sentenced Thursday in Lincoln County Court Thursday. She had pleaded no contest to misdemeanor child abuse and false imprisonment.

Last October police were called to the residence shared by Eyten, her husband, Bryson Eyten, Lacy Beyer and Ashly Clark. Officers found Clark’s two boys were sleeping in a wired-shut kennel inside the filthy trailer home.

Bryson Eyten and Lacy Beyer each were sentenced in June to a year of probation.

Clark was given two years of probation when she was sentenced on July 2.

Weekend Carp-o-Rama Canceled

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) — The carp die-off has forced cancellation of the Carp-O-Rama at Lake Maloney State Recreation Area south of North Platte.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Family Fishing Event had been scheduled for Saturday.

The fish carcasses are being analyzed to determine the cause of death.

Another Family Fishing Event for the North Platte area is scheduled Aug. 8 at Iron Horse Lake, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Loaner fishing equipment, bait and advice are free, but all participants age 16 or older must have a valid fishing permit.

McCook Man Arrested on Child Enticement/Pornography Charges

McCook, Neb. (NSP)- An investigation by the Nebraska Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC), involving the Nebraska State Patrol, Gosper County Sheriff’s Office and the McCook Police Department has led to the arrest of a 26-year old McCook man on charges related to child enticement and pornography.

Jeffrey A. Anderson, 26, McCook, was taken into custody just after 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 10, at the McCook Police Department. His arrest follows a three week long investigation in which Anderson used a social networking site to communicate with and send sexually explicit messages to a juvenile female.

Anderson was lodged in the McCook City Jail on charges of enticement by electronic communication device, child abuse, and attempted manufacture of child pornography.
