Daughtry will headline US Cellular Rock Show

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (North Platte Post) – NEBRASKAland Days Board President Lance Carlson made the announcement Thursday morning that Daughtry would headline this year’s US Cellular Summer Jam rock show.
Daughtry released their self-titled debut album in 2006 and have been lighting up the charts ever since with hits like “Leave This Town” and Crawling Back To You.”
The opening act for Daughtry has not yet been announced, but with Toby Keith on June 22nd and Daughtry now scheduled to play June 23rd, this year’s US Cellular Summer Jam series looks to bring great music and high-energy entertainment for everyone.
Tickets for NEBRASKAland Days sustaining members go on sale Monday, February 20th at 9 a.m. The general public can purchase their tickets beginning Thursday, February 23rd at 9 a.m.
Tickets will be available at nebraskalanddays.com or in the office located at 509 East 4th.

North Platte hit-and-run suspect pleads not guilty

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) – A trial has been scheduled in May for a 20-year-old North Platte man accused of killing a bicyclist in a hit-and-run accident.
Michael Malmkar pleaded not guilty on Monday to charges of vehicular homicide and of leaving the scene of an accident.
Authorities say Malmkar’s vehicle struck Levern Walter and his wife while the two were riding their bikes last June. The 56-year-old Walter died of his injuries.
Malmkar’s trial is scheduled to begin May 15.
Malmkar also has been charged with a January burglary in Lincoln, while he was out on bond. The bond has been revoked, and Malmkar remains in custody.

 

North Platte man gets probation for growing pot

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) – A 57-year-old North Platte man who admitted growing six dozen marijuana plants has been given probation.
Marco Vieyra was sentenced to two years of probation by  Lincoln County District Judge Richard Birch.
Authorities say Vieyra’s neighbor called the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department in September he found the plants growing in a windbreak near his home.
Deputies discovered a sprinkler system and buried hose that led to Vieyra’s home.

 

North Platte man gets prison for selling steroids

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) – A 39-year-old North Platte man has been given one to three years in prison for selling steroids.
Scott Sundstrom had pleaded guilty. He was sentenced on Monday by Lincoln County District Judge Richard Birch.
Authorities say Sundstrom was arrested in January last year after selling testosterone to informants on Oct. 8, 2010, and Jan. 19, 2011.

NP man dies 1 day after collision on I-80

KEARNEY, Neb. (AP) – A North Platte man died one day after a semitrailer truck collided with the SUV he was riding in.
The Nebraska State Patrol says 84-year-old Robert Shantz died on Saturday at a Kearney hospital. The accident that injured him happened on Interstate 80 near Cozad on Friday evening.
Shantz was one of three people in the SUV when the driver stopped in the lane because of an unknown medical issue.
Investigators say the semi was behind the SUV in the same lane could not avoid the collision.
The other two people in the SUV were also injured and hospitalized with severe injuries.
