The service cautions people in the advisory areas to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and stay in an air-conditioned room, if possible.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska authorities continue to search for two inmates who escaped from a maximum security prison in Lincoln on Friday.

The Nebraska State Patrol says that 37-year-old Armon Dixon and 52-year-old Timothy Clausen — both convicted rapists — had still not been found by midday Saturday. The patrol says it and officials with local departments and the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services would participate later in the day in a news conference.

After a head count Friday afternoon, prison officials confirmed that Dixon and Clausen were missing. The search Friday focused on the Lincoln area.

10 die in Nebraska crashes in 2 days

june 8 accident 6A deadly two-day period on Nebraska roadways has the Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska Department of Roads, and their safety partners urging motorists and pedestrians to do their part to reduce serious injury and fatality crashes through voluntary compliance with all traffic safety laws.

10 people were killed in six separate crashes from Wednesday, June 8, through Thursday June 9.  The crashes occurred in Adams, Dakota, Kearney, Lincoln, Merrick and Platte Counties.

Of the 10 motor vehicle occupants killed two were wearing seat belts. Six were not wearing seat belts and restraint use is unknown for two of the fatalities.

“While the circumstances of each crash are unique, one common denominator is the failure to buckle up,” said Field Services Major Mike Gaudreault. “Wearing a seat belt correctly increases your odds of surviving a crash by up to 50%. We encourage all motorists to put the odds in their favor and wear their seat belt every trip, every time.”

To-date in 2016, 85 people have died on Nebraska roadways compared with 105 people on this date a year ago.  Of the 85 fatalities in 2016, 67 have been passenger vehicle occupants, with 49 (73%) unbelted.

Captain Gaudreault said, “During the summer months we typically see increased traffic including more pedestrians and cyclist on our roadways. By watching out for each other, and complying with all traffic safety laws we can all help keep our roadways safe.”

Search for Escapees Continues; Public Urged to Remain Vigilant

As of Friday night, June 10, the Nebraska State Patrol in conjunction with the Lincoln Police Department, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force continues to search for two escapees from the Lincoln Correctional Center.

Inmate Armon Dixon, 37, and Inmate Timothy Clausen, 52, were last seen wearing tan pants and gray long sleeved shirts. The two inmates have been on the run since evading officers following a short pursuit in a stolen pickup. The vehicle was abandoned by the two suspects after hitting a parked car in the area of 18th and H streets just before 10:30 a.m. Friday morning.

The search for the two inmates has been concentrated in the area south of the Capitol as well as an area in south Lincoln near Highway 77th and Saltillo Road.

Just before 6:00 p.m., officers sighted a male matching the description of inmate Armon Dixon near the area of 17th and G streets.  Multiple resources were utilized to search the area, with no sign of the suspect found.

Citizens are urged to be vigilant as the search for the escapees continues. Dixon is an African-American male, 5’9”, 152 lbs., with brown eyes and brown hair. Clausen is an African-American male, 5’8”, 160 lbs., with brown eyes and brown hair. The public is advised to not approach the escapees who are considered dangerous.

“We encourage residents to keep a watchful eye out and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately,” said Lt. Colonel Thomas Schwarten, Assistant Superintendent Nebraska State Patrol.  “We continue to follow leads and the search for the suspects is ongoing.”

Anyone who sees an individual matching the description of the escapees should call 911, the Nebraska State Patrol Highway Helpline at *55 from any cell phone or Lincoln Crimestoppers at (402) 475-3600.

Nebraska officials try to limit spread of destructive beetle

EmeraldLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska officials are trying to limit the spread of the emerald ash borer after the invasive insect that kills ash trees was discovered in Omaha.

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture issued a quarantine to prevent ash nursery stock from leaving the area, and a state senator announced Wednesday she will seek an increase in funding for a grant program to help remove and replace trees.

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture says the beetle was found in a Pulaski Park tree in Omaha. With Nebraska added to the list, there are now 27 states where the pest has been confirmed since 2002.

Department Director Greg Ibach has said the beetle’s presence in the state is not a surprise considering nearby states that already have infestations, including Iowa, Missouri and Kansas.

Appeals court upholds Nebraska real estate brokerage laws

ne-court-of-appealsOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A federal appeals court has upheld Nebraska’s rules governing the state’s real estate industry, dismissing a California real estate broker’s contention that the rules violate her free speech rights.

A 2010 law gave state regulators the authority to issue cease and desist orders against anyone who performs the duties of a real estate broker without holding a Nebraska license.

Leslie Rae Young said those changes restricted her ability to advertise Nebraska properties on real estate websites — a violation, she said, of her free speech rights.

But on Thursday, a three-judge panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with a lower court that said Young was acting as broker under Nebraska law, and that the state has a right to regulate professions, such as real estate brokerage.
