CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) — The average price of a regular gallon of gas dropped 13 cents in the past two weeks to $2.07, but it could soon rise.

Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday that the lowest prices in more than five years are likely to increase because of rising wholesale prices.

Lundberg says rising costs of crude oil the past 10 days should eventually be seen at the pump.

San Francisco continued to have the highest-priced gas in the Lower 48 states at $2.54 a gallon. Albuquerque, New Mexico, remained lowest at $1.73 a gallon.

Lundberg says prices at the pump are $1.24 lower than this time last year.

The average price in California was $2.43 a gallon.

The average national price for midgrade gas is $2.31. For premium, it’s $2.47.

In Nebraska, the average price for a gallon of regular is $1.95.

SEWARD, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska is trying to attract dairy farmers from other states with the promise of abundant land, plentiful water and feed and agriculture-friendly rules.

That sales pitch can be effective in California where dairy producers face drought, urban sprawl and high costs.

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture estimates that every dairy cow represents a $5,000 economic impact in the state.

Marty De Hoog is one of two California dairy farmers to move operations from California to Nebraska in the past four years. He brought his family and about 500 cows with in him 2013.

De Hoog says he likes the people in Nebraska and the readily available water, but he’s still not wild about the cold.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) — More Nebraskans need housing designed for senior citizens’ needs, but in many communities, especially rural ones, that can be hard to find.

Developers are starting to respond to those needs in some cities.

Dean and Gwen Garringer recently moved into a new duplex in Aurora designed especially for seniors. The Garringers didn’t think they’d be able to have a home of their own again after deciding they couldn’t maintain their home in Phillips.

Currently, about 14 percent of the state’s population is 65 or older, and the percentage is higher in many rural counties. That group is expected to grow significantly over the next decade as more baby boomers retire.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska farmer recently visited Colombia and Brazil to learn more about international markets for U.S. crops.

The Nebraska Corn Board says John Greer from Edgar was part of a delegation with the U.S. Grains Council.

Greer says the recent U.S.-Colombia free trade agreement seems to be creating new opportunities to sell American corn and related products.

That’s encouraging because Colombia is one of the largest importers of corn in the region. But Brazil will compete with the United States to sell grain to Colombia.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — An increase in carbon monoxide poisoning calls last year could prompt Nebraska lawmakers to require alarms in homes and apartments.

A bill set for a legislative hearing Thursday would add Nebraska to a growing list of states that require the devices in addition to smoke alarms.

The Nebraska Regional Poison Center received 167 carbon monoxide calls in 2014. That’s up from 107 calls the previous year. Kathy Jacobitz, the group’s managing director, says the detectors are an important safety device.

The bill by Sen. Sara Howard of Omaha would require carbon monoxide detectors in any home or apartment sold, rented or issued a building permit after Jan. 1, 2017. Howard says she introduced it in response to past carbon monoxide deaths in Nebraska.

KEARNEY, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska State Fair organizers are planning two big concerts this year, including one with internationally known entertainers.

The fair is scheduled to run from Aug. 28 through Sept. 7 this year.

Executive director Joseph McDermott says the fair’s board approved the budget for this year’s fair, with more money set aside for entertainment. Organizers are planning the first big outdoor concerts since coming to Grand Island in 2010.

The first concern is scheduled for the fair’s first day. The second is set for Aug. 29, with internationally known entertainers with whom the fair is now in negotiations.

The fair held two outdoor concerts in 2009, the year it before it moved to Grand Island from Lincoln.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A new report says Nebraska irrigators used 30 percent less water last year compared to 2014 across a wide swath of the state.

Water use averaged 7 inches per acre in 2014, compared to 10.1 inches the previous year.

Terry Martin, president of the Nebraska Association of Resources Districts, says the decline is partly due to increased precipitation. He also credits Nebraska’s 23 NRDs for carefully managing the groundwater.

A recent report by the U.S. Geological Survey indicates that, on average, the condition of the Ogallala Aquifer is stable and significantly healthier in Nebraska than in all other states.

Of the six states that overlie a significant portion of the aquifer, Nebraska has experienced the smallest decline in water since the 1950s.

The Board of Directors of the 28,000-member Nebraska State Education Association on Saturday voted unanimously to censure Nebraska State Board of Education member Pat McPherson and to call for his resignation.

McPherson is the founder, editor and a contributor to a blog that repeatedly posted bigoted racial, ethnic and other discriminatory slurs. He was elected in November to represent a slice of central Omaha and rural Douglas County, including Waterloo, Valley and Bennington.

NSEA President Nancy Fulton, who earlier denounced McPherson’s blog, said the NSEA Board wanted to be clear that it stands united in its condemnation of the blog and call for McPherson’s resignation.

“We believe Pat McPherson is unfit to provide leadership as a Nebraska Board of Education member that sets educational policy for our state’s public schools, students and teachers,” said Fulton. “Mr. McPherson’s blog illustrates that he does not have the ability to dispatch his duties on the Board fairly and effectively with the interest of each and every Nebraska child at heart.”

“Our Association’s core values include showing respect for all people. We believe that our public schools should promote mutual respect as well as an understanding of diversity,” Fulton said. “We value diversity as being vital to the education process and integral in preparing students to function in a democratic society that protects human and civil rights.”

NSEA’s Board of Directors is elected by its membership. There are 32 board members from across the state. They represent 28,000 teachers and other public education employees.

There have been calls for McPherson’s resignation from Gov. Pete Ricketts, U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer, U.S. Senator Ben Sasse, the Omaha and Lincoln chapters of the NAACP, several Nebraska newspaper editorial boards, dozens of pastors from the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, and more.

Founded in 1867, the NSEA has 28,000 members across the state.
