SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) — A Scottsbluff man has been sentenced to up to three years in prison for texting nude photos of himself to a 15-year-old girl.

34-year-old William Pritchard was sentenced Wednesday to 20 to 40 months in prison on a charge of enticing a minor with an electronic device.

Authorities say a woman found messages on her daughter’s phone in April from Pritchard. The girl told authorities Pritchard texted her while she was in school.

Authorities say they recovered nude pictures of Pritchard that he had deleted from his cellphone.

A North Platte man has been charged with a felony after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend.

At around 10:45 p.m., on November 18, North Platte Police responded to a residence in the 2300 block of East Philip, on the report of a domestic assault that had occurred earlier.

Upon arrival, a 27-year-old female told officers that her boyfriend, 29-year-old Chad Williams, had assaulted her during an argument.

The victim alleged that Williams pushed her down, choked her and struck her in the face.

She said Williams then grabbed a kitchen knife, and a struggle ensued.

According to police, the victim sustained a laceration to her hand during the struggle over the knife.

Officer Rodney Brown said Williams had left the scene, but agreed to meet with police regarding the assault.

Following further investigation, officers determined that there was probable cause to arrest Williams for 3rd degree domestic assault.  Because Williams has prior domestic assault convictions, the charge was enhanced to a felony.

Williams was arrested and jailed at the Lincoln County Detention Center.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — An all-female panel of the Nebraska Court of Appeals has heard oral arguments for the first time in state history.

The three-judge panel met for oral arguments last week at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Judges Frankie Moore, Francie Riedmann and Riko Bishop heard several cases and then took questions from students.

Riedmann and Bishop were appointed by Gov. Dave Heineman in 2013. Moore, the chief judge of the appellate court, was appointed by former Gov. Mike Johanns in 2000.

The Court of Appeals is made up of three women and three men.

The statewide average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Nebraska dropped below $3 a gallon this week, reports AAA.

Today’s  average for the 87-88 octane rated fuel  is $2.97 per gallon, down eight cents from a week  ago and 13 cents less than this same time last year.

According to AAA, the last time the Nebraska statewide average was below $3 was December 2010.

Out of the 176 Nebraska communities surveyed today, 105 reported gasoline averages of $2.99 or less.

The national average, currently at $2.86, has been below $3 since November 1.  AAA’s Fuel Gauge site shows that motorists in 37 states are paying fuel price averages below that level.

The price at the pump is closely tied to wholesale crude oil costs, says AAA.  During the past 52-weeks, crude oil in the U.S. commodities market has fallen from a high of $107 a barrel down to lows of $75 a barrel reported this week.

Since it takes approximately 30-45 days for crude oil to be processed into gasoline and delivered to local markets, the downward pressure on prices at the retail level is expected to continue through the end of the year.

McCOOK, Neb. (AP) — A man in southwest Nebraska has pleaded no contest to attacking a police officer at a hospital.

33-year-old Wesley Nichols has changed his plea after originally stating he wasn’t guilty in June.

McCook police say Nichols fought with the officer at the Community Hospital in February after a nurse called 911. They say the officer was scratched and suffered injuries to her shoulder and hand.

A nurse injected Nichols with a sedative once the officer restrained him.

It’s unclear what started the incident.

Nichols faces up to five years in prison when he is sentenced in December.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The mayor of a central Nebraska community is bemoaning the public fervor over a resident’s sign about President Barack Obama.

Minden Mayor Ted Griess says he’s asked the property owner who posted the sign to remove it. The sign read, “AIDS Ebola Obama — Thanks Africa.” Griess says the owner has removed the sign from his private property.

Griess says he told the owner that the sign sends the wrong message about the community with a population of just under 3,000. He says the owner had the right to express his political views, but that he and others saw the sign as very “distasteful.”

Nebraska state Sen. Jeremy Nordquist posted on Twitter on Tuesday that he disliked the sign.

A 29-year-old New York woman is facing criminal charges after she caused a scene at Great Plains Health, in North Platte.

Officers responded to the the hospital, 601 West Leota Street, at around 12:20 a.m., on November 19, after receiving a report of a disturbance.

Hospital security advised that Christina Quigley had been causing a disturbance at the hospital, and had been asked to leave several times, but refused.

Police say hospital staff escorted Quigley from the building when she became hostile and vulgar, but she reentered through the main entrance.

When officers arrived, Quigley was running from security throughout the building.

Eventually, she was taken into custody and transported to the Lincoln County Detention Center.

Quigley has been charged with 2nd degree criminal trespassing.

CHADRON, Neb. (AP) — Officials say a twin-engine aircraft had to make an emergency landing at a municipal airport in northwest Nebraska after it lost power to both engines.

A spokesman for the city of Chadron says the emergency landing happened around 8 p.m. Monday at Chadron Municipal Airport. No injuries were reported.

The aircraft landed short of the runway in a wheat field and pasture.

Federal officials are investigating the case.
