A 48-year-old North Platte man is facing a felony charge after he allegedly assaulted a man Sunday evening.

At around 8:45 p.m., on June 22, officers with the North Platte Police Department responded to a disturbance at Elms Lodge, 1200 East 4th Street.

Upon arrival, a 38-year-old female resident told officers that Gregory Jolley had come to her apartment and had gotten upset after discovering she was with another male.

The victim reported that Jolley charged into the apartment, punched the 41-year-old male in the face and placed him in a choke hold.

Officer Rodney Brown said the female was eventually able to pry Jolley’s hold from the victim’s neck.

Following further investigation, officers determined that there was probable cause to arrest Jolley and charge him with felony strangulation and 3rd degree assault.

He was jailed at the Lincoln County Detention Center.

A 41-year-old North Platte man is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted a pizza delivery guy.

At around 7:50 p.m., on June 21, North Platte Police responded to a residence in the area of C Street and Reynolds Street on the report of an assault on a pizza delivery guy.

Upon arrival, officers observed the 28-year-old pizza guy fleeing the area in his vehicle.

Officer Rodney Brown says officers made contact with the distressed victim who alleged that, after delivering pizza to the residence, Chon Dilley telephoned Pizza Hut and demanded the delivery guy return and pay him around $4.00 in change that Dilley said he was owed.

Brown said Dilley was not present at the time of the transaction, but instead, a younger juvenile was given payment to give to the delivery guy.

After returning to the residence, the victim stated Dilley became irate and confronted him about “stealing” the money.  The victim told officers that Dilley began poking him in the chest and yelling at him.  He said that when he attempted to retreat to his vehicle, he was overcome by Dilley who began choking him with his hands and punching him in the face.

Following further investigation, Brown said officers determined that there was probable cause to arrest Dilley and charge him with felony strangulation and 3rd Degree assault.

Dilley was transported to the Lincoln County Detention Center and jailed.

Report Notes Iowa Casino Dependence on Nebraska

gambling

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A consultant for the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission is warning that the state’s gaming industry relies heavily on Nebraska gamblers for revenue and would lose a lot of business if its western neighbor decided to allow casinos.

Iowa has 18 state-licensed casinos scattered throughout the state, but nearly one-fourth of the industry’s revenue comes from Nebraskans, who mostly visit casinos across the Missouri River.

The consultant’s report says Nebraskans generated nearly $327 million in gross revenue for Iowa casinos last year. Total gross revenue for the casinos was $1.4 billion, of which 53 percent came from Iowa gamblers.

Casino supporters in Nebraska say it’s unlikely the state will allow casinos soon, but the Iowa report by Union Gaming Analytics predicts it will happen eventually.

(AP)–2013 Iowa Casino Gross Gaming Revenue

Iowa Gamblers: $748.04 million

Nebraska: $326.9 million

Illinois: $123.66 million

Minnesota: $69.8 million

Wisconsin: $52.63 million

South Dakota: $44.65 million

Missouri: $11.1 million

Kansas: $5 million

All other states: $34.87 million

TOTAL: $1.416 billion

Dissolution Places Nebraska Cemetery in Limbo

cemetery-flowersSHELTON, Neb. (AP) — The dissolution of Buffalo County’s townships has left a central Nebraska cemetery with an uncertain future.

The Shelton Cemetery was named after a Buffalo County town, but it’s located in Hall County.

The location hasn’t mattered because the Shelton Cemetery Association cared for the 12 ½-acre plot of land. But the Shelton Township is set to dissolve on Jan. 1, and when it does, so will a key funding source for the cemetery. Association members who care for the cemetery are now scrambling to find a solution.

The cemetery was founded in 1885, with a deed for 10 acres handwritten in calligraphy. It was expanded to its current size in 1959.

US Gas Prices Rise Slightly to $3.71 per Gallon

gas-cardCAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) — A survey says the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in the U.S. has risen by 2 cents over the last two weeks to $3.71.

Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday that crude oil prices rose over jitters about Iraqi oil production as violence there grows.

Much of that increase hasn’t been passed on to consumers yet, and prices could increase over the coming weeks.

The survey taken Friday shows the average price for a gallon of midgrade gas was $3.90 and the average price for a gallon of premium was $4.05. Diesel averaged $3.95 a gallon.

Of cities surveyed in the continental U.S., Tucson, Arizona, had the lowest average price at $3.37 a gallon. Chicago had the highest average at $4.15 a gallon.

In Nebraska, the average price for a gallon of regular is $3.57.
