KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities in Florida say a 3-year-old boy found in a pool at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort has died.

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies say the boy was found Tuesday evening and was transported to Celebration Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies say the child somehow became separated from his parents at the hotel and was later found in the pool.

Officials say the child and his family were visiting from out of town.

No other details were immediately released.

WARWICK, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a driver’s ed car collided with a tractor-trailer at a New York intersection, killing two teenage passengers and sending two other teens in the car and the driving instructor to hospitals with serious injuries.

Warwick police say the accident happened Tuesday morning when a teenage girl behind the wheel of the car apparently crossed into the path of the truck.

Goshen School Superintendent Daniele Connor says all four teens were students at the district high school, which contracts with Decat Driving School in Middletown to provide driver’s training to students.

Officials say the two boys who died were in the back seat of the car. The girl and another male teen and the instructor were taken to hospitals, as was the truck driver.

Their names were not released.

MARS, Pa. (AP) — This hungry Labrador has some unusual taste buds.

A Pennsylvania veterinarian retrieved 62 hair bands, eight pairs of underwear and a bandage from the dog’s stomach during exploratory surgery.

The head technician at Good Shepherd’s Veterinary Hospital said the black Lab named Tiki wasn’t responding to medicine for vomiting, diarrhea and a loss of appetite, and X-rays showed a mass in its stomach.

Last week’s surgery lasted two hours, and the vet and his technician were shocked at the items that were pulled out.

The dog’s owner, Sara Weiss, says Tiki once swallowed a plastic foam dart, but that passed through the dog’s system naturally.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Army is moving ahead with big troop reductions that could grow even larger unless Congress and the White House find a way to stop additional across-the-board budget cuts this fall.

This is unfolding in the midst of a war against the Islamic State group that the Obama administration says is likely to require a long-term military commitment.

Army officials were notifying members of Congress on Wednesday of details of how they intend to reduce the active-duty force from 490,000 soldiers to 450,000 within two years.

The size of this reduction was settled months ago, but congressional delegations have been waiting on word of how the cuts would be distributed and timed. The biggest cuts are expected to be made at units based in Georgia and Alaska.

An attorney for Subway restaurant spokesman Jared Fogle says his client is cooperating with authorities who raided his suburban Indianapolis home early Tuesday.

Attorney Ron Elberger released a statement several hours after the raid that says Fogle “has been cooperating, and continues to cooperate, with law enforcement in their investigation of unspecified charges, and looks forward to its conclusion.”

Authorities have declined to comment on the raid at Fogle’s house in Zionsville or describe the nature of the investigation.

Subway says the company believes the raid “is related to a prior investigation of a former Jared Foundation employee.”

In May, federal prosecutors charged 43-year-old Russell Taylor with production of child pornography and possession of child pornography. Taylor is the former head of the Jared Foundation.

Subway says a raid at the home of its spokesman Jared Fogle is likely linked to an investigation into an employee at the foundation he founded to combat childhood obesity.

In a brief emailed statement Tuesday, the restaurant chain expresses shock and concern at the raid on Fogle’s Indiana home.

Subway says the company believes the raid “is related to a prior investigation of a former Jared Foundation employee.”

In May, federal prosecutors in Indianapolis charged 43-year-old Russell Taylor with seven counts of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. Taylor is the former head of the Jared Foundation.

A Subway representative, Cindy Carrasquilla, didn’t respond when asked for more details.

Fogle became a Subway spokesman after losing 245 pounds by regularly eating Subway sandwiches.

10:20 a.m.:

FBI agents and Indiana State Police are at the home of Subway restaurant spokesman Jared Fogle and have removed electronics from the property.

FBI Special agent Wendy Osborne said Tuesday that the FBI was conducting an investigation in the Zionsville area but wouldn’t confirm it involved Fogle.

WTHR-TV and The Indianapolis Star report the house belongs to Fogle and that he was detained while electronics were removed from the home and analyzed inside a mobile forensics van.

Calls to Fogle’s home went unanswered Tuesday.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina Senate has voted to remove the Confederate flag from a pole on Statehouse grounds.

The 37-3 vote Monday allows the state to remove the flag and the flagpole where it flies as soon as it passes the House and is signed by Gov. Nikki Haley.

The bill must pass a two-thirds vote, which is likely to be held Tuesday.

Monday’s vote comes less than a week after the 15th anniversary of South Carolina taking the flag off the Capitol dome where it flew since the early 1960s and moving it to beside a monument honoring Confederate soldiers.

Lawmakers had largely ignored the flag until the killing of nine black people during a Bible study at a historic African-American church on June 17.

BOSTON (AP) — Authorities say a 9-year-old boy has lost a hand while playing with fireworks in Boston.

Police say a 5-year-old boy was also injured in the accident Sunday in the Dorchester neighborhood.

The 9-year-old’s family says he is being treated at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Investigators are trying to determine where the illegal fireworks came from.

The state fire marshal’s office says a man was hospitalized with serious injuries to his hand while igniting fireworks Saturday in the backyard of a home in Saugus. Investigators found a large cache of fireworks in a bedroom of the home.

Authorities also reported large seizures of fireworks over the weekend in Pembroke, Hyannis and Dennis.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Jeanette and Alexander Toczko were each 8 years old when they became smitten with one another. They married in 1940 and were rarely apart in the decades since.

They told their children they wished to die in each other’s arms. And last month at their home in San Diego, just days before their 75th wedding anniversary, that wish was fulfilled.

95-year-old Alexander’s health was failing rapidly after he broke his hip. His children put Jeanette in bed next to him.

According to their daughter, Aimee Toczko-Cushman, after Alexander died, Jeanette said, “Wait for me, I’ll be there soon.”

The family left her alone and just hours later, Jeanette died too.

The couple was buried Monday at Miramar National Cemetery.

PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. (AP) — Officials say a 13-year-old boy attacked a 7-year-old girl on a Chimacum school bus and has been charged with three counts of first-degree rape.

The Chimacum Middle School student is scheduled for his first juvenile court appearance on July 15.

Court records say the boy and girl rode the bus together from September 2014 until the end of February. The alleged assault was reported after the girl told her aunt about it and the aunt took the girl to a doctor.

No attorney had been appointed or hired for the boy as of Thursday.

Court records say the boy was expelled from school and released to his family until the legal case is resolved.

KINGSBURY, N.Y. (AP) — Two people have been charged in the overdose death of a 13-month-old New York girl who ingested heroin and cocaine.

The baby’s mother, 27-year-old Rachel Ball, and 34-year-old Joshua Bennett were charged Thursday with second-degree murder, manslaughter and assault.

Authorities say Kayleigh Cassell died Feb. 22 in a home in the Warren County town of Kingsbury where Bennett was staying.

Forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Sikirica says Kayleigh died of pneumonia and respiratory failure stemming from acute heroin and cocaine intoxication. He says the pneumonia is believed to have resulted from months of drug exposure.

Bennett pleaded not guilty at his morning arraignment. Ball is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon.
