Honey Bees Sting Texas Man About 1,000 Times

bumblebeeWICHITA FALLS, Texas (AP) — A North Texas street department worker has been stung about 1,000 times by aggressive bees that also attacked two co-workers who tried to help him.

Wichita Falls officials blamed Thursday’s attack on Africanized honey bees.

Spokesman Barry Levy (LEE’-vee) says a swarm attacked a worker mowing grass along culverts near the Weeks Park Tennis Center. He says the man was in good condition at a local hospital.

Levy says two co-workers also were stung when they came to the man’s aid. One worker fled into a nearby tennis center, bringing the swarm with him.

One of the co-workers also was hospitalized in good condition, the other was treated and discharged.

The center, a nearby trail and part of a golf course remain closed until personnel confirm the bees are gone.

Dad Charged After Falling Dresser Kills 2 Toddlers

ambulance-lightsALIQUIPPA, Pa. (AP) — The attorney for a Pennsylvania man charged with involuntary manslaughter after a dresser fell on his two toddler daughters says their deaths were a “tragic accident,” not a crime.

Attorney Dale Fouse represents 28-year-old David Beatty, of Aliquippa, who is charged in the deaths of 2-year-old Brooklyn and 3-year-old Ryeley.

Beaver County District Attorney Anthony Berosh says the girls would have lived if Beatty had checked on the girls when he heard the dresser fall on July 4. Instead, prosecutors say, Beatty waited 10 to 15 minutes and the girls died when the heavy dresser kept them from breathing.

Fouse says child endangerment charges against Beatty and his wife stemming from the condition of their home are irrelevant to the deaths.

Police say the dog registered at the step-grandmother’s address was identified as an American Staffordshire terrier.

A June police report shows a dog registered at that address allegedly attacked and injured another dog.
