Stolen Dog Statue Turns Up in Lincoln

stolen-dog-statueA statue honoring two beloved St. Bernards has been found in Lincoln.

The statue owned by Donna Frye was spotted by her brother-in-law on Friday, just across the street from his home and about a mile from Frye’s residence. The 45-year-old concrete statue was stolen last week.

Frye said she and her husband bought the statue after her dog, Angel, died. She says it also memorialized their second St. Bernard, Brandy, who died in the mid-1990s.

She believes the thief or thieves read about the theft in the Journal Star, panicked, and then dropped off the statue near the home of the wrong Frye family.

Omaha PD Revamps Policy on Public Recordings of Police

omaha-policeThe Omaha Police Department has revised its policy regarding the public’s use of cameras in the wake of an investigation into recent excessive force allegations that saw four officers fired.

Police officials say the department has long recognized the public’s right to record the actions of police in public. The revised policy spells out that people cannot be arrested simply for recording police or being near a crime scene.

Police Chief Todd Schmaderer (SHMAH-dur) fired four officers last month after a March 21 incident involving police was secretly recorded. The video showed an officer violently throwing a man to the ground and punching him while he was restrained. Other officers were seen chasing Johnson’s brother, who was recording the arrest, into his house.
