Cleveland Judge Makes People Wear ‘Idiot’ Sign as Punishment

idiot-signA Cleveland judge who made a woman wear an “idiot” sign in public for driving around a school bus is calling for the public shaming of a man convicted of threatening police officers.

In addition to sentencing 58-year-old Richard Dameron to 90 days in jail, Cleveland Judge Pinkey Carr ordered him to stand in front of a district police station with a sign when he gets out.

Media outlets report that he’ll have to stand for three hours a day for a week in June with a sign apologizing to officers. The sign will also say, “I was being an idiot and it will never happen again.”

Dameron is convicted of threatening officers in 911 calls.

Al-Turk’s lawsuit says he was dismissed over allegations that he plagiarized a rough draft of a paper, then lied about it. Al-Turk denies those allegations.

He is seeking an unspecified amount and is asking for injunctions to prevent the university, law school and school officials from discriminating against others.

The page, Alex Wunrow, says he saw a half-empty bottle of Captain Morgan rum and an open case of beer in Lautenbaugh’s office refrigerator, but admits he never saw him consume the alcohol while on the job.

Lautenbaugh was arrested last week on suspicion of drunken driving.  His blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit.

Lautenbaugh admits to having beer in his refrigerator, but claims it was left over from an event.  He says he has no recollection of ever seeing any rum.

Nebraska State law prohibits consumption of alcohol on state property unless it’s for ceremonial purposes.
