Federal Court Trial Date Set

KEARNEY, Neb. (AP) — A federal court trial date has been set for the Buffalo County Board of Supervisors chairman and his wife.

Richard and Janna Pierce are charged with bankruptcy fraud, accused of hiding money that they could have used to pay creditors listed in their bankruptcy. They have pleaded not guilty.

The Kearney Hub says (http://bit.ly/KexdmK) the trial is scheduled to begin July 17 in Lincoln.

The Pierces filed for bankruptcy in June 2003 and are accused of failing to disclose nearly $159,000 of Janna Pierce’s income.

The money was from commissions on grants that she wrote in 2004 for Buffalo and neighboring counties. She didn’t submit a bill to the county until 2010, which the board — including her husband — voted to pay.

TD Ameritrade reports monthly trading, asset data

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Online brokerage TD Ameritrade says the number of stock trades it handled in May declined slightly but the amount of client assets it held grew over last year.

The Omaha-based Ameritrade said Thursday it handled an average of 370,000 client trades per day last month. That’s down 2 percent from last May, but up 1 percent from April 2012.

Ameritrade generates revenue from fees it charges on the transactions it handles and from fees on client assets in certain accounts. The company’s monthly data also offers clues about overall investor sentiment.

Ameritrade says the amount of client assets it held grew 3 percent from last year to $431.7 billion at the end of May. But that figure was 4 percent lower than the April 2012 total.

Dish customers in North Platte, Unable to receive KNOP/KIIT

North Platte, Neb. – June 6, 2012 – An unresolved issue have blocked DISH customers from accessing their programming in North Platte, demanding DISH accept a massive price increase.

Amid retransmission negotiations, Hoak blocked DISH’s ability to transmit KNOP / KIIT’s content. Hoak is insisting on a rate increase of more than 200 percent and has demanded that DISH eliminate its customer-enabled commercial skipping technology found on its Hopper™ Whole-Home DVRs.

“Dish pulled our signals (KNOP/KIIT) last night at 5pm. This has nothing to do with the Hopper that Dish offers. This is strictly a retransmission consent issue where Dish and Hoak Media, (KNOP/KIIT) are unable, at this point, to come to an agreement. Hoak Media offered an extension that Dish did not take, thus pulling our signals from their satellite systems. Our hope is that this issue can be resolved quickly so KNOP/KIIT can deliver the best in local programming.”  says President and General Manager of KNOP/KIIT-TV Lewys Carlini

DISH no longer has the legal right to carry KNOP / KIIT.

“Our customers pay a lot of money to KNOP / KIIT and Hoak as part of their monthly bills,” said Shull. “We believe customers have the right to watch purchased TV content in any manner they prefer. Why Hoak executives feel they can stop viewers from something they’ve been doing for years is a mystery.”

Don’t Bite The Hand That Feeds! Come on!

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A 20-year-old Lincoln man has been arrested, accused of assaulting his mom and brother while trying to rob his mom.

Local media says  Daniel Herman was taken into custody on Wednesday morning.

Lincoln Police Capt. Jim Davidsaver says Herman took his mother’s purse and cellphone and told her he wouldn’t return them until she gave him some money.

Davidsaver says Herman and his mom went to an ATM to get the cash, but she refused to turn it over when they got home.

Davidsaver says Herman picked up a pedestal fan and struck his mom with it and also his brother when he tried to help his mom.

A Lancaster County jailer said Herman remained in custody on Thursday. Online court records don’t yet list the case.

Boy Scouts of America thinking about allowing Gay Leaders and Scouts to join

(North Platte Post)-Yesterday (June 6th) The Boy Scouts of America confirmed a consideration of policy change that if accepted would allow openly gay people to serve in local chapters.

This daring movement sparked by activist Zach Wahls 20 year old author of the book My Two Moms: Lessons of Love, Strength, and What Makes a Family who has a strong standing on the issue of homosexual discrimination. Wahls is not a homosexual but was raised by two lesbian mothers, which has not negatively impacted his life and he wants the world to know.

Wahls delivered a testimony to the Iowa House Judiciary Committee. You can watch the video here on Youtube that has scored nearly 3,000,000 hits on Youtube.

Zach Wahls sparked the consideration of allowing gays into the scouts after collecting 275,000 petition signatures, then met with scout leadership. A task not easily done, though inspired when his mother had been kicked out of the Scouts as Den Leader for being a lesbian.

“I love the organisation and I refuse to stand by idly as it forfeits it’s cultural relevancy at the very moment this country needs it most” said Wahls.

What do you think about allowing gays to openly serve in the scouts? Feel free to leave comments here.
