authorities their son floated away in a helium balloon have made a
video saying they’ll auction off the inflatable to raise money for
Japanese earthquake and tsunami relief.
TMZ.com posted the video in which Richard and Mayumi Heene
(HEE’-nee) say they’ll work with California lawyer Perry Rausher on
the auction. Rausher confirmed to the Coloradoan he is working with
the Heenes.
The Heenes’ son wasn’t inside the balloon when it floated away
in 2009. Mayumi Heene served 20 days in jail for filing a false
report. Richard Heene served 30 days in jail for a felony count of
attempting to influence a public servant.
Terms of their probation say they can’t profit from their story
until 2013.

Pedophile convicted of molestation receives prison time. — New charges

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – A Lincoln man who’s listed on Nebraska’s
Sex Offender Registry has been given 20-to-40 years in prison for
molesting another little boy.
Samuel Craigie was found guilty of two charges earlier this
spring after a nonjury trial. The Lincoln Journal star is reporting
that Craigie was sentenced on Tuesday.
The 38-year-old Craigie was given 20-to-40 years for sexual
assault of a child, prior conviction, and four-to-five years for
intentional child abuse. The sentences are to be served at the same
time.
The incidents occurred in 2009.
Court records say the boy’s mother told investigators that she
knew Craigie was a sex offender and that his victim more than a
dozen years ago was 5 years old, about the same age as her son in
2009.

Guilty plea in Scottsbluff embezzlement case
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) – The former manager of a Nebraska
company that manages Social Security and other benefits for clients
has pleaded guilty to embezzlement.
Scottsbluff radio station KNEB is reporting that 48-year-old
Karen Adams entered the federal plea in Seattle, where she was
arrested.
Adams is accused of taking more than $26,000 from Safe Harbor
Inc. between May 2008 and September 2009. The Scottsbluff company
manages Social Security and other federal program benefits as well
as private funds for its clients in western Nebraska and in Wyoming
and South Dakota.
The indictment says Adams took the money from more than a dozen
Safe Harbor client accounts, writing checks for goods and services
for her own use.
Her sentencing is set for Aug. 23.
Setencing set for Jeremy Foster in crime spree case

YORK, Neb. (AP) – Sentencing has been set for a Lincoln man who
was found guilty of three charges in a crime spree that started in
York County.
The York News-Times reports 33-year-old Jeremy Foster faces up
to 60 years in prison for burglary, strangulation and assault.
Sentencing was set for July 5.
Foster was convicted in Seward County after his trial was moved
out of York County.
Prosecutors say Foster broke into a farmhouse in rural York
County in August 2008, assaulted a woman inside, then took off with
stolen guns. Later that day, authorities say, Foster entered a bar
in Butler County, assaulted another woman and fled in a stolen car.
He was arrested after a crash.
Foster is already serving a 45-year sentence on charges from the
Butler County crimes.
NOT GUILTY: Prison guard found not guilty of sexual assault of a minor
TECUMSEH, Neb. (AP) – A Tecumseh state prison guard has been found not guilty by a Johnson County jury of sexually assaulting a12-year-old girl. The Beatrice Daily Sun reports that the jury heard testimony for two days last month before deeming 28-year-old Donald Hardy of Sterling not guilty. Hardy had faced two felony counts: first- and third-degree sexual assault of a child. Prosecutors had said the charges stemmed from incidents in July through August of 2010. Hardy had faced a maximum prison sentence of life in prison. A message left Wednesday by The Associated Press for prison officials was not immediately returned. Nebraska Game and Parks administrator Roger Kuhn says his agency’s officers and other law enforcement agencies didn’t report anything out of the ordinary over the Memorial Day weekend. The policy approved last year ended a 15-year ban on drinking alcohol in state parks. It went into effect Jan. 1, allowing alcohol consumption in all state parks, state historical parks andstate recreation areas, except at Lake McConaughy in western Nebraska and state wildlife management areas. Alcohol consumption is barred in designated swimming areas, on roads, in parking lots and in certain other marked areas. Containers of alcohol larger than a gallon are not allowed.

Roadways flooded, 2 more roads undrivable
The Lincoln County Department of Roads closed North Airport Road from Highway 30, North to Hall School Road. Also, Long School Road, from North Airport Road going East is closed. The closures remain in effect until further notice. This news drops as a stretch of U.S. Highway 30 between North Platte is still not open, after being closed last week.
