Woman Said She Sold Pot to Help Raise Grandkids

marijuana-budBUTLER, Pa. (AP) — A 65-year-old Pennsylvania woman has admitted selling hundreds of pounds of marijuana from her home but says she needed the money to raise several grandchildren after her daughter died.

Candace Kelly, of Sarver, was originally charged last fall after authorities found 64 pounds of hydroponically grown marijuana and nearly $400,000 in cash at her home in Buffalo Township.

Those charges were withdrawn because of problems with a search warrant. Kelly was charged again in January after a grand jury investigation.

Kelly pleaded guilty Wednesday in Butler County and faces up to 10 years in prison.

She told a judge she sold as much as 100 pounds of marijuana a year for more than four years.

Kelly is also forfeiting $393,000 seized by the state police.

Nebraska Trucker Returns Bull Mastiff to Arizona Owners

good-deedsLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A dog-loving Nebraska trucker has taken a lost pooch on a long haul back to its family in Arizona.

Trucker Jimmy Dimmitt was in Ashland preparing for a trip to California when he heard about Koda, a 95-pound bull mastiff, needing a lift back home to get to her owners in Arizona. Koda was returned to her owners, Dani and Jason Windham, on Monday.

Koda went missing on Aug. 4, the day the Windhams were planning to marry at Holmes Lake in Nebraska.

Before the wedding ceremony, Koda and the family’s other two large dogs, Finn and Hooch, knocked down a fence and took off from the Windham’s home. Finn and Hooch were found by animal control but Koda wasn’t. The Windhams moved seven days later to Arizona after Koda went missing.

Koda was found last Wednesday after a farmer reported a dog chasing his cattle near Wahoo.

McCallister was driving the SUV on Aug. 24 when 27-year-old James “Jamie” Rubio fell from its sunroof. She first told investigators she drove left the scene because she couldn’t find her cellphone to call 911. But Flood says investigators learned that McCallister made seven calls and sent three text messages after Rubio fell, none of them to 911.

Investigators: Secret Service Use ‘Problematic’

Homeland-SecurityWASHINGTON (AP) — A new government investigation questions a Secret Service mission that pulled agents from their assignment near the White House and sent them to the rural Maryland home of an employee embroiled in a personal dispute with a neighbor.

The report by the Homeland Security Department’s inspector general calls the mission “problematic” and says it appears to have been motivated by the employee’s friendship with high-level Secret Service officials.

It says that on two occasions, agents were far from the White House while President Barack Obama was there.

The memo was obtained by The Associated Press Wednesday ahead of its public release. A Secret Service spokesman said the agency was reviewing the findings.
