Two Omaha Metro Businesses Non-Compliant During NSP Checks

state-patrolTwo businesses in the Omaha metro area were found to be non-compliant during alcohol compliance checks conducted by the Nebraska State Patrol.

The compliance checks held Thursday, June 13, were conducted at 49 alcohol retail outlets in the Omaha metro area. Of the 49 outlets checked, two businesses were found to be non-compliant after selling alcohol to minors. The retail outlets checked during the collaborative efforts included convenience, liquor and grocery stores as well as restaurants and bars.

Law enforcement performs compliance checks to ensure that businesses are complying with the state’s alcohol laws and to decrease youth access to alcohol.

The compliance checks were conducted thanks in part to a more than $2,640 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety (NOHS). Additional compliance checks will be conducted throughout the summer.

NE Missile Site Contamination Spreads

army-corps-of-engineers(AP) — A builder who bought land around an old Atlas nuclear missile site in southeast Nebraska wants the federal government to sink a new well for his housing development.

But the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers favors a slower, permanent cleanup of groundwater contamination from a chemical used to clean missile fuel lines.

The struggle between Dan Kadavy and the federal government has been ongoing since 2005, a year after Kadavy bought the land near Firth under corps assurances that future residents of the houses would be safe. But the chemical that pervaded the nearby missile site migrated to the groundwater under Kadavy’s 16 acres.

He says he’s losing thousands of dollars a month and can’t wait for the corps’ long-term efforts to prove out

(AP) — A private jet that had former President George W. Bush on board made an emergency landing after the smell of smoke was reported in the cockpit.

Bush spokesman Freddy Ford was on board and said the plane continued to Dallas after a brief stop. He said he never saw or smelled smoke.

FAA spokeswoman Holly Baker said the Gulfstream 4 declared an emergency due to the “smell of smoke in the cockpit” and landed without incident. She didn’t elaborate.

Bush is honorary chairman of The First Tee, which supports youth education programs through golf, and had attended a Philadelphia event.
