Trial Set, Middle School Teacher Accused Of Molesting Children For Two Years

A former Omaha Middle school teacher who is accused of molesting a child will be scheduled to appear for trial on Feb 20th.

Prosecutors say Shad Knutson a social studies teacher went two years with the act. The 35-year-old teacher had molested or had inappropriate relationships with students ages 13-15 from 2008 to 2010 at Nathan Hale Magnet Middle School.

Knutson is charged with seven felony counts, including sexual assault of a child.
Knutson’s attorney sought out separate trials, but Douglas County District Judge Duane Dougherty refused the request because all accusations are too similar so all the girls he is accused of molesting may testify at the same trial.

Omaha Man Fatally Wounded Wednesday

A developing story in Omaha about a 21-year-old man who was fatally wounded on Wednesday night is in the works.

Omaha police say Brandon Thomas was brought to Creighton University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Officers are investigating a report of a shooting at the area where Thomas was yesterday at 4:15 or so.

So far no arrests have been made, and no other details are available.

Man Tries To Hide Crack Cocaine In Sock, Sentenced 30 Years Prison

An Omaha man who was arrested in May for possession of crack-cocaine and driving on a suspended license has received 25 to 30 years in prison.

Police first arrested 53-year-old Raymond Marion for driving on a suspended license in Lincoln, but during a struggle with police a sock containing 10 grams of crack-cocaine, and $1,000 fell from his pocket.

Marion pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver, he was sentenced on Tuesday.

 

School Bus Fatally Collides Wednesday Night..Four Dead

A school bus carrying children ended up in a fatal accident Wednesday evening after colliding with a tractor-trailer in Blue Hill Nebraska.

The crash killed two children and driver of the bus who’s names have no been released and the truck driver 21-year-old Travis Witte. Four more children were injured.

The children ages 6 to 10 were taken to a hospital 20 miles north in Hastings, One was transferred to Children’s Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha.
Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins said the truck was carrying hay. The truck stated on fire after the crash.

Emergency Declared At First Home Game

The first home football game at the University of Nebraska Lincoln Sunday was hot, the temperature was so hot hundreds of people suffered heat-related problems needing medical attention.

The high temperature for September 1st was 95

An emergency was declared at the game as more than 300 people were seeking help in the near 100 degree temps. Around 30 to 40 members from the marching band were also those in need of help.

Triage area were set up and medical personnel were on scene.
The university’s associate athletic director for facilities and events says UNL officials are meeting with authorities to determine the best way to prevent or better handle emergencies.

A New Route Proposed For KeystoneXL

Currently the Keystone XL project is at a standstill with much overwhelming concern about the dangers to the Sandhills in Nebraska.

The company that wants to build the pipeline from Canada to the Gulf said Wednesday that their new proposal for the route of the pipeline minimizes the potential impact on the Sandhills, and now goes around two smaller city well fields.

Opponents to the project had not changed their minds and are still concerned. Bold Nebraska’s Jane Kleeb says state and federal officials should block the Keystone XL pipeline if the new route would still crosses the Sandhills and the Ogallala aquifer.

A map of the new route has not been seen yet.

Longtime Owner Of Lincoln Bar Passes Away

A blues bar in Lincoln called Zoo Bar remembers a longtime owner that has passed away.

Larry Boehmer booked early shows at Zoo Bar in the 1970 before he eventually bought the business.

The 65-year-old Boehmer died Tuesday in Arkansas at a Berryville hospital. Boehmer was in hospice care due to lung cancer.

Over the years hundreds of blues bands have performed at the bar, such as Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and Otis.

Boehmer’s sons Jeff and Tim Boehmer and a longtime employee Pete Watters took control of the bar in 2000 when Boehmer and his wife, Rosalie, moved to Eureka Springs Ark., in 2000.

Watters said the Zoo Bar owners are working on how they will commemorate Boehmer in the future.

Very Long Survey Will Taken Home In Omaha Schools

Students in Omaha and Westside school districts will be taking home an anonymous 94 question survey that asks a range of questions from having sex to riding a bike with a helmet.

The Douglas County Health Department supports the effort. The Survey was compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is used across America.

Douglas County Health Director Adi Pour says officials can better help students if they understand the problems facing children.

Man Tries Taking Advantage Of Class Reimbursement Program, But He’s Not In School

Many employers have a fun program that helps college students feel better about taking courses by offering a reimbursement program of some kind.

Jay Allsman 27, of Lincoln sent in reimbursement requests to his employer with false statements about classes completed, class costs, and even a forged signature of a supervisor.

Allsman is an employee of a sister company owned by U.S. Cellular who offers a reimbursement program for employees’ undergraduate college expenses.

Federal prosecutors say Allsman is convicted of mail fraud for using the U.S. Postal Service to submit the requests; Allsman was sentenced to 16 months in prison and must serve three years of supervised release. Allsman must also pay nearly $162,000 in restitution.

Des Moines Woman Dies In Fatal Accident In Omaha

A fatal vehicle crash occurred Sunday in Omaha taking the life of the 31 year-old-passenger riding on the motorcycle that collided with a car on Highway 31 near the Gretna exit of I-80 in Omaha.

The killed passenger was identified as a Des Moines, Iowa woman Barbara Truitt, the motorcycle was driven by 30-year-old Kyle Cihal of Omaha.

The car stopped after accidently attempting to enter a freeway exit ramp.

Truitt was taken to Nebraska Medical Center by helicopter where she died. Cihal was also taken to the medical center.

Cihal and Truitt were also wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
