Convicted sex offender fails to follow the rules…

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A 54-year-old Nebraska man has been given 30 months in federal prison for violating laws that require convicted sex offenders to register with local authorities.

A news release from the office of U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg says Eddie Hall, formerly of Rockport, Mo., must serve five years of supervised release after he leaves prison.

Prosecutors say Hall began working in Omaha in February 2011 but didn’t register with Nebraska authorities. He was arrested on Feb. 28 this year and later pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender.

He was convicted in Holt County, Neb., in 1995 of sexual assault of a child and convicted in Montgomery County, Iowa, in 2003 of indecent contact with a child.

Former Neb Football player lands a spot on booking roster

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A former Nebraska football player has been sent to prison after violating his probation on a 2008 theft charge for stealing a big-screen TV and pawning it.

Andre Jones, who lives in Alabama, was placed on probation on the felony theft charge in 2010, but started skipping probation meetings and didn’t pay the fees. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was brought back to Nebraska in June.

A Lancaster County judge on Tuesday sentenced Jones to one to two years in prison for theft by receiving stolen property.

Jones, a native of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., played cornerback for Nebraska in 2006 and in a reserve role in 2007.

Just gets done with alcohol treatment…gets drunk, forgets about kid

SIDNEY, Neb. (AP) — Police have arrested a Sidney woman who allegedly left her 5-year-old son unattended for hours because she was intoxicated.

Jessica Marino was charged with felony child abuse, after police received a report Wednesday that the child had been playing outside for hours. The person who called police said 34-year-old Marino had just been released from an alcohol treatment program.

Police contacted the child’s father, who found his girlfriend Marino asleep upstairs. He located his son at a neighbor’s house.

The child told police his mother had left him outside to play, and promised to fix him a sandwich but never did. Police say Marino admitted to drinking. They say her breath-alcohol content was more than five times the legal driving limit.

Nebraska Lottery has one lucky person screaming Omaholla!

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a Nebraska Powerball player has won $2 million.

The Nebraska Lottery says the winning ticket was sold at a Hy-Vee gas outlet in northwest Omaha.

The ticket matched five of the six numbers drawn Wednesday night but missed the Powerball number. The ticket’s $1 million prize was doubled because the ticket buyer bought the Power Play multiplier option, which was two.

Powerball officials say a ticket sold in Lapeer, Mich., matched all six numbers, winning the buyer the jackpot of $337 million. Officials say the lump sum payout would be $241 million.

Jail experiences power loss, generator even gave out!

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A power outage forced a lockdown at the Douglas County Jail in Omaha, and no escapes have been reported.

The jail and several dozen other Omaha Public Power District customers lost power in a section of downtown late Wednesday morning. The main grid had been taken offline for planned maintenance, but the backup circuit failed.

The jail’s generator started up but sputtered to a halt after 30 minutes because of a mechanical problem.

The jail was without power from a little after 11 a.m. until a little before 2 p.m.

Douglas County corrections director Mark Foxall says inmates were kept secure.

Man admits to downloading child porn daily

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska man has been given 80 months in federal prison for distributing child pornography.

Federal prosecutors say 24-year-old Matthew McCann must serve 10 years of supervised release after he leaves prison and must pay $2,500 restitution to one of the people depicted in his collection of child porn.

Officers searched an Omaha residence where McCann was staying on May 9 last year. Prosecutors say McCann admitted downloading child porn daily, and investigators found more than 60 videos on McCann’s computer.

Prosecutors also say FBI technicians found sexually explicit texts that McCann had sent from his cellphone to a 13-year-old girl.
