OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A woman charged with vehicular homicide and drunken driving after a fatal Sarpy County collision has pleaded not guilty.

22-year-old Paige Seaton entered the pleas Tuesday.

The Oct. 4 crash on state Highway 50 killed 15-year-old Alexandra Linscott, of Eagle, who was passenger in her mother’s car. Her mother, 48-year-old Elisa Linscott, was critically injured.

Investigators say Seaton crossed the center line, hitting the Linscotts’ car. Officials say Seaton’s blood alcohol level after the crash measured more than twice the legal driving limit.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A former Omaha child care provider accused of abusing a 4-year-old girl in her care has pleaded no contest.

59-year-old Lynn Rowe entered the plea Tuesday to the child abuse charge in Douglas County District Court. She faces up to three years in prison when she’s sentenced in January.

Police say the girl’s parents reported April 3 that Rowe had abused their daughter while the girl was at Rowe’s daycare. Officials say the report was made after a worker at the daycare recorded Rowe hitting the girl.

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services shut down Lynn’s Learning Center shortly after Rowe’s arrest in April in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

FREMONT, Neb. (AP) — Health officials have begun to assess whether they need to treat anyone who was exposed to tuberculosis by a patient who has died in Omaha.

The patient was treated Oct. 29 at Fremont Health and transferred an Omaha hospital that day. Terra Uhing of the Three Rivers Health Department says the patient died Friday. No details about the patient are being released.

The department covers Dodge, Saunders and Washington counties.

Uhing says the department is interviewing family and community members to identify any setting where other people might have been exposed. The infection risk rises with close proximity in a confined space for a prolonged period of time with a person whose sputum is positive for tuberculosis.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A judge has delayed a decision on whether the case against the Lancaster County treasurer should go to trial in district court.

On Monday Judge C. Jo Petersen gave prosecutors 10 days to respond to a defense brief for Andy Stebbing, who’s accused of selling cars without a dealer’s license, failing to pay sufficient income taxes and helping customers evade taxes. Petersen did not set a deadline for her decision.

Stebbing’s attorney says prosecutors have filed unnecessarily strong charges and says state officials should have notified Stebbing of problems with his tax returns before charging him with felonies. But at Stebbing’s preliminary hearing Monday, prosecutors said the evidence showed Stebbing was selling vehicles as a business without a dealer’s license.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A January sentencing has been scheduled for a man whose speeding van crashed in Omaha, killing a passenger in the cargo area.

Court records say 32-year-old Nemias Garcia-Velasco, of Omaha, pleaded no contest Monday to vehicular homicide while driving under the influence of alcohol. His sentencing is set for Jan. 5.

Police say the van was speeding July 5 when it left the roadway, hit a guardrail and a bridge support. Then the van caught fire. Police say the crash killed 58-year-old Silvano Torres, who was riding without restraints in the van’s cargo area.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Authorities have released the names of two people shot on U.S. Highway 75 in northeast Omaha.

Police say the shooting happened around 12:45 p.m. Sunday near the Hamilton Street exit. Someone in a vehicle shot at the victims’ vehicle while both vehicles were traveling south.

Police say 21-year-old Xavier Bass was killed and 24-year-old Marcus Eiland was wounded.

No arrests have been reported.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a woman who died after being pinned under a car she was repairing in Lincoln.

Police identified the woman Sunday as 40-year-old Darcy Johnson. Authorities say Johnson was working under a sedan propped up on a jack in an apartment complex parking lot when the car fell off the jack around 1:20 p.m. Saturday, pinning her underneath.

Emergency responders pulled her from under the car and tried to resuscitate her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A judge has sentenced a former treasurer of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska tribal council to five years of probation.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says U.S. District Court Judge Laurie Smith Camp on Monday sentenced 56-year-old Thomas Snowball, of Winnebago to the probation as well as 150 hours of community service. He also was ordered to pay $36,500 in restitution.

Snowball had pleaded guilty earlier to theft from an Indian gaming establishment.

From 2013 through September 2014, Snowball took unauthorized disbursements from the WinnaVegas Casino and Resort totaling $36,500.

The charges were related to a conspiracy by nine former council members to steal more than $327,000 from the WinnaVegas Casino in Sloan, Iowa.

Police say the shooting happened around 12:45 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 75 near the Hamilton Street exit.

Police say someone in a suspect vehicle shot at the victim’s vehicle while both vehicles were travelling south on the highway.

Both victims were taken to the hospital after the shooting. One was in serious condition and the other was in critical condition.
