Nebraska Mom, Iowa Officials Seek Missing Man

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — A Nebraska woman is still hoping to find out what happened to her son, two months after he was reported to have driven a stolen pickup into the Missouri River north of Council Bluffs.

Kim Allmon, of Omaha, said her son, 23-year-old Michael Ogborn, has been missing since Oct 29. Allmon says she was told he drove the truck into the river north-northwest of Crescent. Two people in the truck with him swam to safety, but he hasn’t been found.

Chief Deputy John Reynolds with the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office says authorities searched the river on Oct. 29 and for several days afterward.

Allmon says she wants answers and closure. She says she lost Ogborn’s father in a drowning.

Omaha Man Hospitalized After House Fire

omaha-f-dOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A man has been hospitalized after he escaped from a house fire in southwest Omaha.

Firetrucks were sent to the scene a little after 10 a.m. Sunday. Neighbors report finding the man in his backyard, suffering from burns. Officials say the man had escaped from the house basement, where the fire started.

The fire cause is being investigated. The man’s name hasn’t been released.

Man Faces Robbery Charge in Omaha Carjacking

omaha-policeOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A man faces a robbery charge in connection to a carjacking in Omaha.

Police say the 21-year-old man was taken into custody following a carjacking Saturday night in east Omaha. A woman told authorities she was driving when she pulled over for a man waving at her. The woman said she thought she knew the man.

Authorities say the man got into the vehicle and told the woman he was taking the car. The woman got out of the car and reported the incident to police.

Officers say the woman’s car was later spotted with the 21-year-old man inside. He was taken into custody for questioning then later booked on a robbery charge. Court records do not list formal charges.

Dispatchers in Colfax County to Receive Texts

colfax county sheriffSCHUYLER, Neb. (AP) — Dispatchers in Colfax County in eastern Nebraska will soon be able to receive text messages for 911 emergencies.

The Colfax County Board of Commissioners recently approved a measure to spend more than $100,000 on a new text-to-911 system. It will give emergency dispatchers at the county courthouse in Schuyler the ability to receive text messages from cellphones and other devices.

Colfax County Sheriff Paul Kruse says there are benefits to the service, such as offering domestic violence victims a second option to contact dispatchers. It will also help people with hearing and speech impairments.

Several other Nebraska counties have plans to offer the service. Kruse says the system in Colfax County should be installed within the next 90 days.

Police ID Council Bluffs Officers in Shooting

council-bluffs-policeCOUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Authorities have identified two Council Bluffs police officers involved in a shooting earlier this week.

Department officials said Officers Jarrod Poore and Corey Woodward were involved in the shooting.

Police say that around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers spotted a stolen Corvette and that the driver accelerated toward them, so they opened fire before the car struck their cruiser. Neither officer was injured.

A chase ensued across the Missouri River in Omaha, Nebraska, and 33-year-old Jesse Wilkinson was soon arrested.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.

Wilkinson is currently being held in an Omaha jail on an unrelated federal warrant charging him with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Lincoln Police ID Railroad Worker Found Dead

lincoln-policeLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Police have identified a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad employee found dead in a Lincoln rail yard early Christmas morning.

62-year-old Charles Lee Roberts was found shortly after midnight on Christmas by a co-worker after Roberts didn’t return from a routine train check.

Lincoln police Capt. David Beggs says investigators don’t believe Roberts’ death is suspicious, but are still trying to determine the cause.

Omaha Police ID Man Found Dead, Arrest Son

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Police have identified a man whose body was found Friday in a northwest Omaha mobile home and arrested the man’s son on suspicion of murder.

Police say the body of 56-year-old Christopher Incontro was found around 11 a.m. Friday after officers were sent to the mobile home to check on his well-being.

Within a couple of hours of Incontro’s body being found, police had arrested his son, 25-year-old Nicholas Burden, on suspicion of second-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Police have not said how Incontro died or how long he had been dead.

Nebraska Game and Parks to Burn Brush Piles

Nebraska_game_and_parksLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has announced it will burn brush piles, as weather and snow cover allow, at several sites across the state.

Brush piles are created by the removal of invading trees in grassland or timber stands or from trees damaged in storms. The commission says removal of brush piles will open grasslands and timber for continued management, eliminate fuel for wildfires and eliminate sites conducive to the germination of noxious and invasive plants.

The brush pile burns are scheduled for state recreational and wildlife management areas in 11 counties, including Antelope, Burt, Knox, Jefferson, Lancaster and Otoe counties. Other counties are Saline, Seward, Thayer, Pawnee and Washington.

Crete Man Dies After Pickup Strikes Tree

fatal-accidentCRETE, Neb. (AP) — A rural Nebraska man has died after his pickup slammed into a tree.

Sixty-six-year-old Dale Workman of Crete died Friday morning.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says Workman may have suffered a major medical problem before the collision. That’s because investigators believe speed, distracted driving, weather conditions and alcohol use were not contributing factors.

Workman was alone in his pickup and not wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Omaha Police Investigate Death of Man

crimeOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Omaha police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a northwest neighborhood apartment.

Police say a suspect in the man’s death is in police custody.

Police said in a news release that officers were sent to the apartment late Friday morning to check on the well-being of a person and found the body of the man there.

Police have not yet released the identities of the man found dead or the suspect being held, but say no other suspects are being sought. No details of how the man died have been released.
