LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Police in Lincoln say a computer store has been burglarized for the second time in nine months.

A city employee called police at 2:30 a.m. Friday after seeing men dressed in masks hauling equipment through a broken window.

Lincoln police chief Jim Peschong says investigators were still waiting Friday for staffers to determine what was missing. But the value of the stolen equipment could be as much as $30,000.

The store was robbed by two men wearing masks and carrying a machete, a stun gun and a baton in March. Police arrested three people from Omaha suspected in at least seven Lincoln-area robberies.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska attorney general’s office is seeking disciplinary action against a Lincoln orthopedic surgeon and former Husker football player who is accused of practicing medicine while impaired.

The petition filed this week alleges that Dr. Scott E. Strasburger arrived at work on Nov. 26 in an impaired state that prevented him from performing surgeries.

According to the petition, Strasburger refused to submit to a drug test. The petition says Strasburger failed a drug test in July, months after completing an outpatient treatment program. It says Strasburger initially tested positive for a controlled substance in October 2013.

A phone message left at Strasburger’s office wasn’t immediately returned. A home phone number rang unanswered.

Strasburger was a defensive end for the Huskers and was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 1985.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A police officer has suffered minor injuries in a collision with a firetruck on the way to a blaze in northeast Omaha.

Omaha police say the accident occurred a little before 3 a.m. Friday. The Police Department says Officer Anthony Barnes was headed south in his cruiser on North 16th Street and was struck on the driver’s side by the southbound firetruck.

The cruiser was knocked into a parked vehicle and then off the roadway into a couple of fences, stopping in a yard.

Barnes was taken to Nebraska Medical Center for treatment. The Police Department says none of the firefighters on the truck were injured.

FREMONT, Neb. (AP) — Union Pacific workers have been cleaning up the scene of a coal car derailment in western Dodge County.

The incident occurred around 4:45 a.m. Friday just south of U.S. Highway 30, west of North Bend. Railroad spokesman Mark Davis said the train consisted of three locomotives and 136 cars. Just 22 of them derailed.

Rail traffic on the line was halted for cleanup and any repairs necessary.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a 37-year-old woman who died after being pulled from the basement of a burning boarding house in southeast Omaha.

The Omaha Police Department identified her as Demetria Sanchez. The Omaha Fire Department says the woman died Tuesday at Nebraska Medical Center. A man who also was found in the boarding house’s basement was taken to Creighton University Medical Center for treatment. He was identified as 27-year-old Eddie Valentine.

Firefighters were called to the house near 22nd and M streets around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Omaha Fire Battalion Chief Tim McCaw says the fire started in the basement, but it’s not clear how it started.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nearly 50 members of the Nebraska Air National Guard soon will leave for six months of duty in the Middle East.

A private goodbye ceremony is set for Monday at the Nebraska National Guard’s headquarters in Lincoln.

The Lincoln-based airmen are members of the 155th Security Forces Squadron, the 155th Force Support Squadron and the 155th Civil Engineer Squadron.

The National Guard says members from the 155th Operations Group will leave for a one-month mission a few days after Monday’s ceremony.

LA VISTA, Neb. (AP) — Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 52-year-old and the shooting of a 79-year-old in an eastern Nebraska home.

La Vista police say the 52-year-old, Gaylord Surratt, was dead in the living room of his home when they arrived around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers say Surratt’s mother, 79-year-old Rona Surratt, was found shot in the kitchen. Surratt was alive and conscious at the time. Police say she’s in stable condition at an Omaha hospital.

La Vista authorities and the Douglas County crime lab are investigating the case. No other details were released.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Lincoln police are investigating the death of a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad employee.

The 62-year-old man was found in the city’s Railyard shortly after midnight on Thursday. Police say a co-worker discovered his body after the man didn’t return from a routine train check.

Lincoln Police Capt. Michon Morrow says the death doesn’t appear to be suspicious, but authorities won’t have much information until after an autopsy. Morrow says it’s possible the man tripped and fell, or had a medical condition.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A federal judge is allowing a Nebraska prisoner to move ahead with his lawsuit alleging that prison officials failed to treat him for post-traumatic stress disorder after he was sexually assaulted.

It’s the second time the inmate has alleged prison officials were intentionally indifferent to his medical needs.

A Lancaster County judge ruled in the inmate’s favor in March 2010 and awarded him $250,000. The inmate alleged that prison doctors did not provide the inmate with the treatment he needed between June 2002 and November 2005.

A treatment plan recommended that the inmate see a therapist at least every other week and a psychiatrist every two or three months, while receiving medication. Instead, he received 90-day mental health reviews.

HASTINGS, Neb. (AP) — A local animal shelter has put up a reward for information after the carcasses of three missing dogs were found near railroad tracks in Hastings.

Start Over Rover says there’s no evidence that there’s any foul play involved, but “it does seem suspicious that these three animals from two different homes in different areas around town find their way to the same spot on the railroad tracks and are all hit by a train.” The carcasses were found on Tuesday.

The $1,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever is behind the dogs’ deaths.
