3 Hospitalized Following Omaha Nightclub Shooting

crime-scene-police-shootOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Three men have been hospitalized following a shooting at a nightclub in west Omaha.

The Omaha Police Department says officers responded to a report of a shooting early Saturday at Rehab Lounge.

Two men were found outside the nightclub with gunshot wounds. They were transported in critical condition to CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center. A third man was taken by private car to another hospital, but was eventually taken to CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center.

It’s unclear how the third man was injured. Authorities have also not released additional information about the men’s conditions.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Lincoln Woman Accused of Attacking Daughter, Dog with Knife

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Lincoln woman has been accused of cutting her adult daughter’s leg and stabbing a dog in the neck.

Police say 39-year-old Tanya Perez faces a charge of second-degree assault. She has also been cited on animal cruelty. Court records do not list an attorney.

Officers responded to Perez’ apartment Thursday night on a report of a domestic assault. Perez is accused of grabbing a steak knife and cutting her 22-year-old daughter’s leg. She is also accused of stabbing a pit bull in the neck as the dog tried to intervene in the alleged fight.

Police say the women had argued over drugs before the verbal argument turned physical.

Perez’ daughter was treated for her injury. Additional information about the dog is not available.

16 Arrested as Demonstrations Return to Ferguson

st-louis-county-policeFERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Authorities say a sixteenth person was arrested during an overnight protest near the Ferguson police station.

St. Louis County Police spokesman Shawn McGuire says only one of those arrested is from the St. Louis area and that eight are from New York City.

McGuire says 15 people were arrested on misdemeanor peace disturbance charges. He says Joygill Moriah, of the Bronx in New York City, was arrested on preliminary charges of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace.

Jail records had no attorney listed for Moriah.

The demonstrators were protesting the grand jury’s decision Monday not to charge a white Ferguson police officer for shooting unarmed black 18-year-old Michael Brown in August.

Man Accused of Stabbing Brother in Omaha

stabbingOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Police have arrested a man suspected of stabbing his older brother outside a movie theater in eastern Omaha.

Officers say the 20-year-old man was upset with his 30-year-old brother, possibly over a fire a few blocks away. Police say the younger man stabbed his brother near the Midtown Cinema and then fled. He was arrested a few blocks away inside a grocery store that had been broken into.

The man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, assault and other crimes. Online court records don’t yet show that he’s been charged.

His brother was taken to a nearby hospital. Police say he’s expected to survive.

Nebraska Trooper Finds Victim Hours After Crash

state-patrol-logoPLATTSMOUTH, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska state trooper has found a woman who’d spent hours in the wreckage of her vehicle after it crashed off a highway south of Omaha.

51-year-old Laura Hazen thinks her sport utility vehicle crashed around 8 p.m. Wednesday. The SUV ran down into a ditch off the west side of U.S. Highway 75 about three miles south of Plattsmouth and rolled onto its top. The wreckage was all but invisible to motorists whizzing past.

Trooper Eric Aho (AH-‘hoh) noticed scattered dirt and damaged trees, though, as he passed by around 8 a.m. Thursday. He stopped and soon found Hazen in the back seat of her SUV, trying to keep warm and complaining of rib injuries.

Hazen was taken to a hospital.

 

Police: 1 Dies in Omaha Rollover Crash

fatal-accidentOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Police say one person has died in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Omaha.

Omaha police say the crash happened before 7 a.m. Friday near an intersection of Interstate 80 and Interstate 680.

The crash remains under investigation and authorities are seeking the public’s help in gathering details.

Additional information about the crash was not released.

Lincoln Woman Falls Down Ravine Near UNL Campus

lincoln-fire-departmentLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Lincoln woman who fell down a ravine remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue say Penny Costello was walking her dogs Thursday afternoon on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s east campus when she fell down a 20- to 30-foot ravine. The ravine leads to Dead Man’s Run creek.

Costello used her cellphone to call a friend. That friend helped direct rescue workers to the remote area.

Costello was taken to a local hospital. A spokeswoman said Friday that she’s in stable condition.

Beatrice Police Working Through Disruptions

beatrice-policeBEATRICE, Neb. (AP) — Officers, dispatchers and others have been working through the disruption caused by installation of new heating and cooling equipment in the Beatrice Police Department building.

The $155,000 project began about two weeks ago. Officer work stations have been moved and interview areas and technology have been altered to accommodate the process, which is expected to last until February.

Staffers hope they won’t have to spend too much time in the cold when the switchover to the new equipment is made. Public properties director Mark Pethoud says he hopes the transition will take only a day or two.

Man Gets Probation from Stealing from York Jaycees

gavel-and-scaleYORK, Neb. (AP) — A 35-year-old man who was convicted of stealing more than $1,400 from the York Jaycees has been given two years of probation and conditional jail time.

Travis Stuhr was sentenced earlier this week on four misdemeanor counts of theft. He’d pleaded no contest after making a deal with prosecutors. In addition to the probation, Stuhr was given 180 days in jail, which can be waived by a judge if Stuhr abides by the terms of his probation.

Prosecutors say Stuhr, of York, had access to the Jaycees checking account because he was supposed to pay bills from a demolition derby the group sponsored. York County Attorney Candace Dick says Stuhr wrote four checks to himself totaling $1,430. She also says restitution has been paid.

Omaha Carjacking Thwarted by Girls’ Presence

omaha-policeOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The presence of two little girls may have thwarted a carjacking in Omaha.

Police say a man loaded the two 6-year-olds in the back seat of a car a little after 7 p.m. Thursday and was preparing to drive them away when he was approached by three men. Police say the three men pulled the man away from the running car and one got in behind the wheel and sped off. The two other men ran away.

Police say the man driving the car stopped less than a block away after noticing the girls. He got out and fled on foot, leaving the girls in the car, unharmed.
