OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — An Omaha man described by prosecutors as a “serial stalker” will spend decades in prison.

A Douglas County district court judge sentenced Dammon T. Haynes on Wednesday after he pleaded no contest to stalking, making terroristic threats and tampering with a witness.

All three charges carried “habitual criminal” enhancements because of Haynes’ past. The 38-year-old won’t be eligible for parole for at least 22 years.

Judge Shelly Stratman says she wanted to hold Haynes accountable for a pattern of harassment. She noted that 14 people have been granted protection orders against him.

Prosecutors say Haynes has a history of stalking and terrorizing women. They say he broke into his victims’ homes and threatened their children. Even when in jail, they say he violated no-contact orders.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska man and woman have been sentenced to federal prison for distributing methamphetamine.

43-year-old Jose Ulloa has been sentenced to 21 years and 10 months in prison. Forty-seven-year-old Diane Holbrook has been sentenced to 10 years and 10 months.

Prosecutors say the pair distributed at least 18 ounces of meth in the Lincoln area between January 2012 and February 2014. Ulloa sold meth to an undercover officer in June and July of 2013.

The relationship between Ulloa and Holbrook is unclear.

BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) — A longtime manufacturing company in Beatrice is back in business after shuttering its operations three years ago.

The Dempster Industries factory closed in late 2011, but is now under new management. Dempster president Ryan Mitchell said the factory has completed its first full line of spreaders.

The production line took between 12 and 14 weeks to make the spreaders, which can be painted any color a customer wants. The equipment costs about $15,000 each.

Painting and other production is outsourced to Beatrice-area business. Ten people are currently employed at Dempsters, and Mitchell says seven are former employees.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — The Council Bluffs Community School District says a 14-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree arson in connection to a high school fire.

District officials said Wednesday that two boys were involved in the Tuesday incident at Abraham Lincoln High School. They say authorities interviewed a 15-year-old boy but he hasn’t been charged.

No injuries were reported after sprinklers extinguished a football tackling dummy in the school field house. Students were evacuated for about 10 minutes while firefighters helped vent smoke.

Fire officials haven’t released the suspects’ identities.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say they’ve identified a young girl found alone in an Omaha neighborhood.

Police received a report around 1 a.m. Wednesday of a girl alone in a neighborhood in south Omaha. Officers conducted a canvass of the area but were unable to determine the child’s identity or where she lives. They estimated the girl is about 3 years old.

The girl, who is in good health, was placed into temporary foster care. She was later identified and her siblings were also put into temporary foster care.

The state’s child protection services department has been notified of the case. Information about the children’s parents has not been released.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Officials say high carbon monoxide levels at an assisted living facility in Lincoln led to a brief evacuation of residents.

Black Hills Energy spokeswoman Brandy Johnson says a carbon monoxide leak at Lincoln Manor was discovered Wednesday morning. Residents were sent to a nearby church while firefighters ventilated the building.

Johnson says the leak was caused by faulty heating equipment. No injuries were reported.

A Black Hills Energy technician arrived at the building around 8:30 a.m. Residents were allowed back in the building around 10:30 a.m.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Lincoln police say an officer needed eight stitches after a distracted driver crashed into his cruiser.

The 25-year-old woman who hit the police car has been cited on suspicion of driving negligently.

Sgt. Mark James says 36-year-old Officer Joseph Keiser was trying to turn on Monday when the woman looked away from the road to pick up something. Her car drifted into Keiser’s lane and hit the rear of his vehicle.

James says the crashed caused $9,000 in damage to the police cruiser.

No other injuries were reported.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Lancaster County judge has sentenced a man to prison for possessing guns and drugs as well as violating a protection order.

33-year-old Devinoris Davis was sentenced Tuesday to between seven and about 13 years in prison. He pleaded no contest to possession of a firearm during a drug violation and a felony protection order violation.

Police found nearly 20 grams of meth when they searched Davis’ apartment in October 2013. They also found a shotgun, two rifles and a revolver. He was found with a woman who had a protection order against him.

Reducing the potential for serious injury and fatality crashes in the Capital City will be the focus of a special enforcement planned for Friday, Nov. 21.

“Over the past year, Lincoln has experienced an increase in vehicle crashes resulting in fatalities,” said Lt. Ken Dahlke, Headquarters Troop-Lincoln. “By increasing our presence on a busy Friday night, we hope to encourage voluntary compliance with all traffic safety laws and save lives in the process.”

According to statistics from the Lincoln Police Department, since the first of the year there have been 14 fatalities related to motor vehicle crashes in the city of Lincoln. That compares with five traffic deaths in 2013 and seven in 2012.

The special enforcement will include high visibility patrols focused on major arterials during the evening and early morning hours (Nov. 21-22). A $1,975 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety (NOHS) will help to pay for the effort.

Lt. Dahlke said, “We need your help to keep our roads safe. Always wear your seat belt and never drive impaired or distracted.”

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A 56-year-old Fairfield man has died from injuries he suffered in a two-vehicle crash south of Hastings.

Steven Anthony was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban on Saturday afternoon when he lost control of the SUV due to winter conditions.

The Suburban crossed the center line and hit a northbound 2007 Dodge Ram pickup. Anthony was taken to a Lincoln hospital, and died on Monday.

The driver of the pickup, 19-year-old Jared Jackson of Hastings and his two 16-year-old passengers, George Schutte of Hastings and Trevor Ernest of Ayr, suffered minor injuries. They were taken to Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings.
