OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Omaha police say a second victim in a Tuesday night fatal shooting in Omaha has died.

Police said Sunday that 29-year-old Stephen Arps died Saturday in an Omaha hospital from the injuries he suffered in the shooting.

Officers dispatched to the shooting scene Tuesday night found two injured people, who were taken by ambulance to an Omaha hospital.

Twenty-three-year-old Johnnesha Brown was pronounced dead at the hospital that night.

No arrests have been reported.

CERESCO, Neb. (AP) — Crystal and William Powers give new meaning to the term “barn raiser.”

The couple who run Darby Springs Farm outside Lincoln have turned to the Internet to try to raise the money they need for a barn that will including milking stalls.

The couple had lived in Ithaca, New York, before moving to Nebraska. In 2009, they bought their 40-acre farm.

They now have five Guernsey cows and 50 laying chickens, and they sell unpasteurized milk and eggs. But they want to grow their business.

The Powers have so far raised about $4,000 through Barnraiser, a crowd-funding website where people can donate to support sustainable agrarian projects.

Their goal is to raise $10,000 to pay for the design work on the barn.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) — Authorities are investigating a plane crash in northwest Ohio that killed three Nebraskans earlier this week.

The fatal crash happened Thursday evening as the plane was preparing to land in Findlay about 23 miles away.  All three people aboard the plane were from Grand Island, and all three died in the crash.

The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office says 59-year-old Dr. Michael McCarty was flying the plane, which was registered to Orthopedics Aviation Services.

The other people in the plane were 65-year-old Wayne Weiss and his wife, 62-year-old Rosalee Weiss.

Family members say McCarty was traveling to New Jersey to visit a daughter, and the Weiss’ were on vacation. McCarty was an orthopedic surgeon in Grand Island.

LAUREL, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a 67-year-old woman has died after an ATV collision in northeast Nebraska.

The Cedar County Sheriff’s office says the accident happened in Laurel shortly before 3 p.m. Friday.

The sheriff’s office says 67-year-old Sharon Bose was driving an all-terrain vehicle that collided with an ATV driven by 68-year-old Herbert Bose.

Sharon Bose’s ATV rolled on top of her and caused life-threatening injuries. She was flown to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, where she later died.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — An Omaha man faces a firearms charge after police say he accidentally shot himself.

Police say officers received a call Friday morning about a shooting in southeast Omaha. They arrived and discovered a shooting victim had fled the scene.

Officers eventually located the man, identified as 29-year-old Luel Teny. He told authorities he was trying to secure a gun when he accidentally shot himself. He said he didn’t realize there was a round in the chamber.

Teny was sent to a local hospital and later released. He was then booked at the Douglas County Corrections on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Court records do not list an attorney.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A former Beatrice man has been given more than five years in prison for possessing child pornography.

U.S. Attorney Deborah R. Gilg said 31-year-old Terry L. Dill was sentenced Friday. He will be required to serve five years of supervised release when he completes his prison sentence. He will also need to register as a sex offender.

Authorities began investigating Dill after a file hosting service reported possible child pornography in one of its customer’s files. Search warrants of Dill’s residence and electronic items later revealed digital files containing more than 960 sexually explicit pictures and more than 100 sexually explicit videos of children under the age of 13.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska Game and Parks has scheduled prescribed burns of woodlands and grasslands at three state parks as weather allows.

Burns are scheduled for Ponca State Park in northeast Nebraska’s Dixon County and at two parks in southeast Nebraska: Rock Creek Station State Historical Park in Jefferson County and Indian Cave State Park in Richardson County.

The burns are designed to reduce brush and small tree densities to allow for oak tree regeneration, increase native wildflowers and enhance wildlife habitat. Experts also say the burns will stimulate the growth of grasses and remove invasive tree and brush species.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Lancaster County commissioners have decided not to extend most pension plan benefits to same-sex partners of county employees despite a U.S. Supreme Court decision that effectively forced governments to extend certain benefits to same-sex partners.

The County Board on Thursday followed the Nebraska Defense of Marriage Amendment, a state constitutional amendment passed in 2000 that barred same-sex marriage.

The Supreme Court’s decision last year invalidated a portion of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which also banned same-sex marriages. The decision, however, doesn’t bar states from not recognizing marriages performed in other states. County administrator Kerry Eagan says that means local governments still can decide whether to extend benefits that aren’t subject to federal rules to same-sex partners.

BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) — A Beatrice man has been sentenced to at least five years in prison for abusing his wife, including hitting her with a bathroom sink.

40-year-old Terrence M. Thompson was sentenced Thursday in Gage County District Court on charges of third-degree assault, strangulation and possession of methamphetamine. A plea deal earlier dropped other charges.

Thompson’s wife told authorities she was hit multiple times by him, including with a bathroom sick. Court documents indicated the woman had a fractured rib and several bruises in different states of healing.

Officers were contacted in August after the woman’s son reported the abuse to his school.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The sister of a man convicted of killing four Omaha residents last year has been given prison time for robbing two of the victims.

Twenty-four-year-old Erica Jenkins was sentenced Thursday to 60 to 100 years in prison on two robbery charges. She will be eligible for parole in 40 years.

Jenkins is accused of luring Juan Uribe-Pena and Jorge Cajiga-Ruiz to an Omaha park in August 2013 and robbing them before Nikko Jenkins killed them.

Erica Jenkins faces charges in connection to the other deaths. A trial is scheduled for next year, and she has been approved to represent herself.

Erica Jenkins also faces charges in the assault of two jail guards. Nikko Jenkins is awaiting sentencing for the August 2013 deaths after being convicted earlier this year.
