Nebraska County Treasurer Wants State DMV Online Fee Review

dmvLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A southeastern Nebraska county treasurer wants state officials to be more transparent about fees charged to people who make payments on the Department of Motor Vehicles website.

Lancaster County Treasurer Andy Stebbing said his office charges a lower convenience fee to people who use credit or debit cards in person or over the phone compared to people who make payments on the state’s DMV website. Stebbing says his office charges 2.49 percent as a convenience fee, while the state’s website charges a 3 percent fee.

He also says that the state charges a flat $3 fee to customers who make online payments using electronic checks. Stebbing says his office charges half of that.

Stebbing recently sent a letter to Nebraska’s Secretary of State, requesting he order a review of the convenience fees.

Bodies of All Wichita Plane Crash Victims Removed

wichita-fire-departmenWICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Authorities say the bodies of all four victims have been removed from a Wichita flight training facility that was hit by a small plane this week.

Fire Marshal Brad Crisp said the body of the pilot was removed Saturday from the roof of the building at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport.

The bodies of the other three victims who were inside a flight simulator when the twin-engine plane hit Thursday were pulled from the rubble a day earlier.

Crisp says the removal of the pilot’s body was made more difficult because of the crumbling structure, which caught on fire after the crash.

National Transportation Safety Board officials say the cockpit voice recorder has been recovered but it’s unclear whether a flight data recorder survived.

Omaha Man Says Priest Molested Him 30 Years Ago

archdiosese-of-omahaOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Omaha Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church says an Omaha man has reported he was molested as a child 30 years ago by a religious order priest.

The archdiocese said in a written release Friday that the priest, who died in 2012, was an associate pastor in the Holy Ghost Parish in Omaha in the mid-1980s.

The Order of Augustinian Recollects — based in New Jersey — founded Holy Ghost in 1918. It provided the parish with a pastor from its ranks until leaving Omaha and transferring Holy Ghost to the Omaha Archdiocese in 1986.

Deacon Tim McNeil with the Omaha Archdiocese says because the priest belonged to the Augustinian Recollects, the order is carrying out the investigation.
