(AP) — A mural depicting TV talk show legend Johnny Carson will be going up on the side of a downtown building in his Nebraska hometown of Norfolk.

Norfolk artist Karl Reeder will use various images of Carson on the side of the former Andrew Bicycle building.

Carson was born in Corning, Iowa, but grew up in Norfolk, Neb., and attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He hosted NBC’s “The Tonight Show” for 30 years. He died in California in 2005.

Organizers hope the mural will be finished in time for the 2014 Great American Comedy Festival, set for June 11-14 in Norfolk. The festival was created as a way to honor Carson.

Nirvana, Kiss and the E Street Band Join Rock Hall of Fame

rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame(AP) — Kiss, Nirvana and Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band have been ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a ceremony at Barclays Center.

They were joined Thursday by duo Hall & Oates, British rocker Peter Gabriel, 1970s folkie Cat Stevens and the absent Linda Ronstadt.

Nirvana was the emotional centerpiece. The trio rooted in the Seattle-area punk rock scene was voted into the hall in its first year of eligibility.

Original Kiss members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley had wanted the replacements for ex-bandmates Ace Frehley and Peter Criss to perform at the ceremony instead of the original four. The result: Kiss’s music went unheard.

Springsteen’s 1999 entrance into the hall without the E Street Band was a sore point for some members, who finally got their due.

Tilden City Council Votes to Close Hospital

Foster Farms Salmonella Outbreak Sickens People in 25 States

cdc(AP) — Federal health officials say a salmonella outbreak linked to Foster Farms chicken isn’t over and has now infected 524 people in 25 states and Puerto Rico.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released the updated numbers on Wednesday. The agency reported in January that the outbreak appeared to be over. It has been going on since March 2013.

The CDC noted an uptick in illnesses in February.

The outbreak led to a public health alert from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for raw chicken packaged at three Foster Farms facilities in California.

Though no one has died, the CDC says the outbreak strains have been resistant to several commonly prescribed antibiotics.

Foster Farms says it has implemented a salmonella control program that has reduced the prevalence of salmonella in its products.

Most of the ill persons (76%) have been reported from California. The number of ill persons identified in each state is as follows: Alaska (1), Arkansas (1), Arizona (24), California (399), Colorado (9), Connecticut (1), Delaware (1), Florida (4), Hawaii (1), Idaho (5), Illinois (1), Kentucky (1), Louisiana (1), Michigan (4), Missouri (5), North Carolina (1), Nevada (10), New Mexico (2), Oregon (13), Puerto Rico (1), Tennessee (1), Texas (12), Utah (4), Virginia (4), Washington (17), and Wisconsin (1).

The body of the 56-year-old woman was found March 5 near her car about a mile south of Beemer. Authorities say it appeared her car ran through a dead end and went about a half-mile through a field before coming to rest in a creek bed.

The accident appeared to have occurred about two weeks before the wreckage and Baumert’s body were found. She lived in West Point.

The couple pleaded no contest in February to four counts each of attempted animal abuse as part of a plea deal.

Authorities investigated the couple in connection with the deaths of 30 dogs, cats, horses and goats found in their residence last August. Deputies found animals in various stages of decay in a freezer.
