(AP) — Wyoming authorities say a Missouri couple have been arrested in the deaths of their ex-spouses and two children more than 30 years ago.

Officials said Monday that 71-year-old Gerald Uden and 74-year-old Alice Louise Uden of Chadwick, Mo., face first-degree-murder charges in Wyoming.

Gerald Uden is accused of killing his ex-wife, 32-year-old Virginia Uden, and her two children, 12-year-old Richard Uden and 10-year-old Reagan Uden. All disappeared in 1980.

Authorities didn’t say whether Gerald Uden was the children’s father or where the killings occurred.

Alice Uden is accused of killing her ex-husband, 25-year-old Ronald Holtz, who disappeared in 1974 or 1975. Authorities say Holtz’s remains were recently found in an abandoned Wyoming mine.

Gerald and Alice Uden are in custody in Missouri while Wyoming authorities attempt to extradite them.

(AP) — Police say more than $30,000 worth of equipment has been stolen from a fire station in eastern Nebraska.

Omaha police say an external storage unit at an Elkhorn fire station was broken into between Thursday night and early Friday.

Several items were taken, including a thermal imaging camera valued at $6,000.

Authorities are asking the public for any help that may lead to arrests in the case.

(AP) — A prison inmate suspected of robbing a Beatrice bank while on work release says he wasn’t ready for freedom.

Lucius Turner was serving a 10- to 15-year sentence for robbing a Lincoln bank in 2007. Authorities say Turner robbed the Pinnacle Bank branch in Beatrice on Aug. 16. Turner had been assigned to work release and was supposed to be looking for a job that day.

Turner says he knows how to survive in prison or on some mean streets in Omaha, but he floundered when he was given some freedom to go find a job.

The 31-year-old told the Journal Star that he doesn’t “really think I was ready to go back out there.”

(AP) — A 28-year-old man is recovering after being shot in northwest Omaha while he was driving with two young children in the car.

Omaha Police said the shooting happened near 144th and Maple streets — far from the neighborhoods where shootings are common — around 10 p.m. Saturday.

Police say Lafayette Carodine was driving south on 144th Street when a Chevrolet Impala started tailgating him. The shots were fired from the Chevrolet.

Carodine continued south with his 5-year-old and 2-year-old children in the car before crashing near Blondo Street. He fled the car but collapsed nearby.

Carodine was hospitalized but his injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

The children, who were not wounded, are with their mother.

(AP) — A Gretna woman accused of embezzling more than $4 million from the tobacco and candy business where she worked has pleaded guilty to three counts of tax evasion.

The Nebraska Department of Revenue and the Sarpy County attorney opted to pursue the tax evasion charges against 54-year-old Caroline Richardson after her former employer, Colombo Candy and Tobacco Wholesale Co, declined to press charges against her.

Instead, the company has gone after an Iowa casino. In a federal lawsuit, Colombo says Ameristar Casino should have known that Richardson was gambling with ill-gotten money.

In exchange for her pleas, prosecutors dropped three counts of filing a false income tax return.

She faces up to 15 years in prison when she’s sentenced on Dec. 16.

(AP) — A northeast Nebraska man convicted of an attempted felony has been sentenced to three years of probation — and no dating.

Authorities say 21-year-old Jeffrey Hoadley, of Carroll, helped plan the Dec. 5 burglary of an auto parts store, but backed out as he and an accomplice approached the business.

Hoadley was initially charged with burglary, but he pleaded guilty in June to the lesser offense.

On Friday, Judge Mark Johnson sentenced Hoadley to three years’ probation and a 120-day jail term that could be waived if he successfully completes the terms of his probation — including an order not be involved in any romantic relationships during his probation.

In explaining the condition, the judge told Hoadley, “You need to focus on you.”

(AP) — A 29-year-old Lincoln man who was out on parole when prosecutors say he stole a truck and caused a fatal crash has pleaded no contest to three charges in the case.

Jefferson Potter entered the pleas Friday in Douglas County District Court to manslaughter, theft and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Police say Potter was speeding while driving a stolen pickup and trailer that collided in June with several other vehicles. Jennifer Siemens, of Bellevue, was a passenger in one of the vehicles hit and died from her injuries.

Police say Potter climbed out of the pickup and fled but was caught and held by witnesses.

He will remain in jail until he’s sentenced on Jan. 7.

(AP) — A toddler has been critically injured in a fall from a second-story window at his home in the Omaha suburb of La Vista.

Police say the 14-month-old boy fell Friday afternoon about 10 feet onto the home’s concrete driveway and was flown by medical helicopter to an Omaha hospital.

Police say the boy’s mother was home at the time and are calling the fall an accident.

(AP) — A Louisiana pastor has been shot and killed during a nighttime revival service, and authorities say a suspect has been arrested.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers says the shooting occurred about 8:20 p.m. Friday at Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center in Lake Charles.

Myers says a gunman walked into the church and shot Pastor Ronald J. Harris Sr. “as he was preaching.” Harris was pronounced dead at the scene.

Myers says 53-year-old Woodrow Karey of Lake Charles is charged with second-degree murder and was held in the parish jail Saturday.

Myers says authorities are investigating and have not determined a motive for the shooting.

(AP) — Roughly $230,000 was raised at a recent Nebraska tailgate to help a nonprofit that works with struggling kids and families.

The Big Red Tailgate earlier this month featured several former University of Nebraska players. The event was held at the Embassy Suites along I-80 in La Vista.

Organizer Sarah McGowan says she’s glad the event was successful in raising money that will help kids in the community.

The money raised will go to Completely KIDS.

According to their website, Completely KIDS is an Omaha nonprofit whose mission is to develop youth and their families through Out-of-School Time and Family Strengthening programs in communities where they live.
