Carol Lynn Chrisp

Carol Lynn Chrisp, 77, of North Platte passed away July 1, 2017 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, Ne.

Carol was born in Lewellen, Ne on December 25, 1939 to Paul and Bertha (Brooks) Benzen.  She attended country and town grade schools and graduated with the LRHS class of 1957.  At an early age, she was baptized and later joined the United Methodist Church.

Carol married Bruce A. Gordon and to this union were born three children; Pamela Sue, Timothy Bruce, and Polly Mae.  The family lived in various places in Wyoming, Colorado, and Nebraska where Bruce was a Brand Inspector.

In 1993 Carol married Jerry L. Chrisp of Sargent, NE, and they were currently living in North Platte, NE.

Her children, grandchildren, and other family members were always foremost on her agenda.  Carol was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining as well as computer work and knitting.  Carol and Jerry enjoyed traveling and playing golf; they liked to dance and were active with a dance group as long as their health permitted.  Carol also belonged to Knitting Group from Hershey that makes prayer shawls as a mission.

Carol was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; parents-in-law; and a sister, Jacqueline Miller; and sisters and brothers in-law, Mickie Gordon, Imogene Regorrah, Clarence Chrisp, and Dennis Johnson.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Chrisp of North Platte; children, Pam Gordon of Grand Island, Tim (Rhonda) Gordon of Newcastle, WY, and Polly Dimmitt of Pierre, SD; grandchildren, Brenna and Gracie Dimmitt of Pierre, SD; sister, Kay Tapp of Lewellen, NE; sisters and brothers in-law, Curtis Miller, Ray and June Stone, Bob and Rosie Barnsdale, Gary Gordon, and Linda Johnson; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. CST Friday, July 7, 2017 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Pastor Del Unruh officiating.  Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. MT at Ash Hollow Cemetery near Lewellen, NE. with Pastor Jennifer Brand officiating.  Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. with family receiving friends 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

Levern Leonard Pflaster

Levern Leonard Pflaster, 88, of North Platte was born in Sherman County near Loup City on March 27, 1929, to Andrew and Clara Pflaster (Dembowski).

In 1950, the family moved to Custer County, where Andrew worked on a ranch. After four years, they moved to Ash Creek, where the family farmed and he started school. Here he met his wife, Jane Kepler. They were married on Sept. 16, 1951, and moved to Ash Creek, where they farmed and began their family with the birth of Diane and Randy.

In 1957, the family moved to the Kepler farm east of New Helena, where they farmed and ranched until 1979. They added Doug, Terry, Pam and Calvin to their family during their years there.

In 1980, they moved to North Platte, where Levern began trucking for Nebraska Salt & Grain & Baker Trucking for 21 years before retiring in 2001.

Levern was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; parents; and four brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his children, Randy of Broken Bow, Diane of North Platte, Doug of Cozad, Terry (Marilynn) of Goodyear, Arizona, Pam of North Platte and Calvin (Laurie) of Queen Creek, Arizona; eight grandkids; and eight great-grandkids.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, at Govier Brothers Chapel, Broken Bow, with the Rev. Bill Williams officiating. Burial will be at the Broken Bow Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4, at Govier Brothers Mortuary, which is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Linford Macke

Mary Linford Macke, age 67, of North Platte, NE, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Centennial Park Retirement Village.

Mary was born December 25, 1949, to Grant Hodges and LaZaun Jackson Linford in Salt Lake City, UT, where she grew up. Mary graduated from Granite High School in 1968 then went on a Mission to Honduras. When she returned home, she enrolled at BYU and graduated with a degree in nursing. Mary went on to work in nursing homes.

Mary was married to Rocky McCain and they later divorced. In 1990 Mary was united in marriage to Bernard William Macke in O’Neil, NE, and were later sealed in the Denver Temple. The couple lived in Salt Lake City, Council Bluffs, IA, Lincoln, NE, then North Platte. Mary was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, First Ward, in North Platte.

Mary loved to read, dance and do art work but especially loved spending time with her family. She was a devoted mother and cared for many others. Mary will be greatly missed and is loved dearly by her family and all who knew her.

She leaves behind her husband, Bernard, of North Platte; twin sons, Benjamin and Daniel McCain, both of Lincoln; stepdaughters, Lena (Pete) Cardenas and Tami Scott, of North Platte, Laura Cole, of Wayne, NE, and Kari (Lee) Craig, of Yankton, SD; 11 grandchildren; her twin sister, Nona Linford, of Seattle, WA, and sisters, Arlene (Doug) Dalton, of South Jordan, UT, and Sherry (Larry) Daniels, of Billings, MT; brothers, Melvin (Judy) Linford, of West Jordan, UT, Earl (Andree) Linford, of Draper, UT, Alan (Carolyn) Linford, of Taylorsville, UT, Grant (Connie) Linford, of West Valley City, UT, Brent (Susan) Linford, of Oklahoma City, OK, and Jay (Allison) Linford, of Orem, UT; as well as many nieces, nephews and other family.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and LaZaun Linford.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Inurnment will be at a later date in Creighton, NE. The memorial book may be signed online at odeanchapel.com or prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Grace DeLight Spohn

Grace DeLight Spohn, age 85, of North Platte, NE, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at the North Platte Care Center after a brief illness.

Grace was born August 12, 1931, to John Jay and Grace Ellen Pratt Davison in Washington, IA. She grew up on the family farmstead outside of town and graduated from Washington High School in 1950. Grace was working at a bank in Cedar Rapids, IA, when she met Harry Ray Spohn.

Grace and Harry were married on March 1, 1952, in Cedar Rapids then they moved to Norfolk, NE. Since Harry worked for the Weather Service, the couple relocated many times living in Sault Ste. Marie, MI; Montgomery, AL; El Paso, TX; Des Moines, IA; Ceresco, NE; Bonner Springs, KS; and finally to North Platte in 1974. Grace and Harry had 65 wonderful years together. They raised five children and were foster parents to many others.

Grace was a resourceful and independent woman and an excellent role model. She was the foundation for the family while Harry was stationed in Antarctica and the West Indies. Grace had her own sewing business, she worked in manufacturing and was a nurse’s aide in a nursing home. In North Platte she learned to finish drywall for Mark V then started her own drywalling business. Grace also sold Avon and taught archery to the Boy Scouts and other young people and was a Campfire Leader and Cub Scout Leader. After retiring, Grace enjoyed being a volunteer for Living History, R.S.V.P. and the Food Pantry, loved doing calligraphy, and wrote to others as a Pen Pal.

Grace was an amazing woman and a great wife, mother and grandmother. When she wanted to drive, she taught herself. She loved to knit, do needle work and was a button collector who belonged to the National Button Society. In the kitchen, Grace was an adventurous cook and quite the baker. She will be missed in so many ways.

She leaves behind her husband, Harry, of North Platte; their children, Christine Roper, of Platte City, MO, Kathleen (Michael) Daniello, of Union City, CA, Daniel Spohn (Louise Cox), of Colorado Springs, CO, Joanne (Theodore) Hohman, of Rochester, NH, and Mary Spohn, of North Platte; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great great-granddaughter; her sisters, Barbara (Gene) Booth, of Brighton, IA, and Beatrice Coover, of Marion, IA; brothers, George Davison, of Washington, IA, and Bob (Nancy) Davison, of Donnellson, IA; as well as many nieces, nephews and other family.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, John and Grace Davison; sisters, Ruth Dickinson, Mary Stone, Virginia Nash, Geneva Mabb Pailliotet, Gertrude Nash and baby Betty Davison; brothers, John and Dwight Davison; and son-in-law, Earl Roper.

Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with the Rev. Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating. Burial will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the Food Pantry.

John Denton Streiff

John Denton Streiff, age 73 of Tryon, passed away Wednesday June 28, 2017 at Great Plains Health.

John was born on October 17, 1943 in North Platte to John August and Opal Lucille (Huffman) Streiff.  He graduated from McPherson County High School in 1961 then went on to college at Ft. Collins, CO before returning to his family’s ranch west of Tryon.  He married Connie J. Seifer on October 19, 1969 in Paxton, NE.  The couple settled on the family ranch which they continue to operate.  He had a love for Morgan horses, Hereford cattle and his Chevy vehicles.  He loved the Sandhills and the ranch life.  John loved his friends and family, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife Connie of Tryon; children Dawn (Brett) Haake of Thedford, Gina (Jeff) Davis of Rushville, Lana (Gregg) Klein of North Platte, Lynn (Jebb) Rhods of McCook, Josh (Debbie) Streiff of Tryon and Roka (Justin) Klein of Hidden Timber, SD; grandchildren Chase and Brady Haake, Ashton and Delani Davis, Kinsey Rhods, Greysen Streiff and Baby Klein; as well as numerous other family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Opal Streiff; and sister Lorraine McIntosh.

Marian Ann Wenhold Jared

 

Marian Ann Wenhold Jared, of North Platte, NE, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the age of 76, after a short battle with cancer.

Ann, the daughter of John Harold and Margaret Benner Snyder Wenhold, was born April 13, 1941, in Hagersville, PA. She grew up in Pennsylvania with her sister, Mary Beth, and graduated from the Quaker Town Community High School with the Class of ’59. Ann then went on to graduate from the Gale Institute in Minneapolis, MN, and joined Delta Airlines. She worked as a teletypist, reservation agent and did some ticketing. During her seven years with Delta, Ann was able to travel extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Prior to her work with Delta, Ann had worked in the local hospital in Pennsylvania.

Ann later met Allen Jared and they were united in marriage in San Francisco, CA, on August 31, 1968, in the Oakland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with Quentin L. and Mary Cook as their escorts. The couple made their home in North Platte where they owned and operated Jared Floral and Bridal Shop for over 30 years. Ann and Allen were married for nearly 49 years and had a son, John Allen.

Ann was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a kind, caring woman who enjoyed helping others. She spent many years volunteering at various organizations including the hospital, Red Cross and her church, and was a life time member of P.T.A. Ann also helped with the Boy Scouts of America for 34 years and was recognized with the Silver Beaver Award, which is the highest honor in volunteer service you can get.

Ann had many hobbies which included crocheting, reading, researching genealogy, Facebooking, and all kinds of technology. Ann loved bowling and had fun on her senior league that met at 1 p.m. every Tuesday. At the age of 75, Ann earned her Associates Degree in General Studies. She especially loved her family and friends and enjoyed doing different activities with all of them, whether it was picnics or parties, she loved everything that made life good. In essence, Ann lived her life as a moving experience.

She leaves behind her husband, Allen Jared, their son, John Allen Jared, and grandchildren, Jasmin (Kaitlyn) Blaesi and Kean Jared, all of North Platte; sister, Mary Beth Wenhold, of Perkasie, PA; her family of choice, Scott and Rebekah Odle, of North Platte, and their children and grandchildren; and other family.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Wenhold, and many of their siblings.

Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1-6 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore or prior to the service at the church. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com. George Charles Wetzel Death Notice

George Charles Wetzel, 81, of Corvallis, Oregon, formerly of Curtis, died Jan. 26, 2017, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. Clarence W. Ogier

Clarence W. Ogier, 77, of Wallace, passed away June 26, 2017 at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln.

He was born May 18, 1940 to Edward C. and Luella (Miller) Ogier at North Platte.  He graduated from Wallace High School with the class of “58”.  Clarence was employed by Kenneth Bartmess until his service in the United States Army.  After returning to Wallace from the service, he farmed and ranched and on March 22, 1969 he married Kandy Bartmess. After her passing, he was united in marriage on December 26, 1981, to Vicki Tobiasson at Centennial, WY.  Clarence was a pilot and loved to fly and also in his cars (fast).  He was a member of the Wallace United Methodist Church and the Wallace Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki; a son, Kenneth (Tiffany) Ogier all of Wallace; grandchildren, Shelby and Nathan; a sister, Carol Gardner of Thornton, CO; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kandy; and a brother, Clayton.

Diana Claudette Classen

Diana Claudette Classen, age 76, of North Platte passed away Tuesday June 20, 2017 at Great Plains Health.

Diana was born on November 30, 1940 in Billings, MT to William and Hope (Richel) Classen.  She grew up in Billings where she graduated from high school.  Diana married Roscoe “Clark” Hartley March 26, 1962 in Sheridan, WY.  She took care of her family in North Dakota, and Arkansas.  She moved to North Platte in 1995 to be closer to family.  Diana was a very loving mother and grandmother who always did what she could to take care of her family and will be remembered as an excellent cook.

Diana is survived by her children, William Ray (Vickie) Hartley of Russellville, AR, Amanda (Dean) McConnell of Sutherland, Charmaine (Brian Kramer) Willard of North Platte, and Hannah (Doug Sr.) Jenkins of Russellville, AR; grandchildren, Cathy (David) Wallies, Eva (Freddy) Zogg, Gary “Clark” (Lauren) Wilkison, Marsha (Steve) Coleman, Marvin McConnell, Wynonna Willard, Casey, Jennifer and Chris McConnell, Dustin Howell, Doug Jenkins Jr., Michelle Howell, Jesse Jenkins, Kaylan (Darshawn) Pumphrey-King, Nathan Howell, and Brittany Jenkins; great-grandchildren, William Sundin, Jim Wallies, Adam Wallies, Alicia Wallies, Brandon DeCent, Bruce Zogg, Breanna Zogg, Harley Zogg, Ziva Zogg, Molley Coleman, Gage Coleman, Marston Coleman, Jax Coleman, Zoey Porter, Ashlynn, Hailey Howell, Zavannah Monday, Fayleen, Emma Jenkins, Evan Barfield, and Blake Barfiled; and a brother, Melvin Classen of Seattle, WA.
