Charles Lee ‘Chuck’ Wheeler

Charles Lee ‘Chuck’ Wheeler, age 91, of North Platte, died Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, Nebraska.

Chuck was born on September 12, 1927 to Jewell and Aletha (Goodman) Wheeler at Avalon, Missouri.  He grew up on the family farm and attended school in the Avalon area.  After graduating from high school, Chuck worked for Sears & Roebuck in Kansas City.

While working, he met Shirley Hope McNutt, and the two were married on April 11, 1948 at Woodston, Kansas.  They lived in Kansas City, Missouri for a while then returned to Kansas before moving to North Platte, Nebraska in 1978.  Chuck worked for himself doing construction work, then joined the Maintenance Staff at North Platte Public Schools in 1981 and worked until retiring.

He enjoyed working with his hands and gardening, and attended the Nazarene Church.

Chuck is survived by his sons, Carl Wheeler of Powell, Wyoming, Dale (Claudia) Wheeler of Texas, Len Wheeler of North Platte, Paul Wheeler of Wellington, Colorado, and Mark Wheeler of North Platte; seven grandchildren; and other family.

He was precede in death by his wife, Shirley; their daughter, Gayle Wheeler; and his parents, Jewell and Aletha Wheeler.

Graveside service and burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 in the Ashrock Cemetery in Woodston, Kansas.  The memorial book may be signed online at odeanchapel.com.  Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore in North Platte is in charge of the arrangements.

Leslie James “Jim” Warner

Leslie James “Jim” Warner, 89, of North Platte, died peacefully at home on Thursday, March 14, 2019.

Jim was born on April 25, 1929 at Stockville, Nebraska to Jesse Otis and Marjorie Ruth (Wollam) Warner.  He grew up south of Hershey, Nebraska where he attended country school, then Sutherland High School in Sutherland, Nebraska, and farmed with his dad.  Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army and served a short time due to the death of his father.  Since he was needed at home to work and help the family, Jim was honorably discharged in 1947.

Jim worked on the family farm and rode bulls and saddle broncs at rodeos.  He loved horses and went on to have a 35 year career as a professional jockey.  He rode numerous races throughout Arizona and California and didn’t quit riding and rodeoing until retiring in 1985.

Jim married Gloria Padilla.  They had three children and later divorced.  On February 2, 2008, Jim married Georgena “Genie” Allen in Benson, Arizona.  They lived in Arizona, Sutherland and Arnold before moving to North Platte five years ago.

Along with his horses and rodeoing, Jim loved to dance and was quite good at it.  He was also a member of Otto V. Johnson Post #128 American Legion in Sutherland.

Jim is survived by his wife, Genie, of North Platte; children, Pam (Ron) Box of Quitman, Texas, Jesse Warner (Michael) of San Diego, California, Jolene (Paul) Ness of Phoenix, Arizona, and Anna Barrio of Phoenix, Arizona; and their mother, Gloria Warner of Phoenix, Arizona; step-kids Randy Allen of Arnold, Nebraska, Kevin (Kelly) Allen of North Platte, and Kim (Tad) Geiser of Kearney, Nebraska; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Peggy (Don) Rotert of Sutherland; brother-in-law, Dean Valentine of Sutherland; as well as many other family members.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Warner; mother and stepfather, Marjorie and Clarence Frels; brothers, Ron and Merrill “Bud” Warner; sisters, Patricia Fitch and Opal Barclay; and sister-in-law, Mary Warner.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in North Platte with Rev. Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating.  Burial with Military Honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.  Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore in North Platte, which is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences may be shared online at odeanchapel.com.

Dixie Rose Greenwood

Dixie Rose Greenwood, age 86 of North Platte, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Linden Court in North Platte, Nebraska.  Dixie was born on November 19, 1932 in Sutherland, Nebraska to Edward and Mary (Miller) Jennings.  The family later moved to North Platte where she attended school and graduated with the class of 1950.  She married Lawrence W. Greenwood on June 20, 1951 in North Platte and the couple lived in San Diego, California while Larry was in the Navy.  In 1953 they returned to North Platte where they spent the remainder of their lives.

Dixie was devoted to her children and enjoy her time at home until she entered the work force in 1969.  She worked for U.S. West for several years, then the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Farmers Home Administration until her retirement in 1992.  She discovered a passion for genealogy, garnering her the title of Family Historian.  Her meticulous research resulted in detailed annals for both the Jennings and Greenwood families.  She had a great talent for design and decorating and took pride in making her home picture perfect.  Dixie most enjoyed time spent with family and relished her role of Grandmother.

Dixie is survived by her children, Christine (Mike) Johnson of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Daniel (Ann) Greenwood of Arvada, Colorado, Robyn (Jeff) O’Connor of North Platte, and Raegan (Mark) Skillstad of North Platte; daughter-in-law, Jana Greenwood of  North Platte; 12 grandchildren, Maggie, Kate, Luke, Courtney, Allison, Adam, Jordan, Randi, Kelsie, Shane, Aiden and Kinsey; 10 great grandchildren; brother, Ralph Jennings of North Platte; sister-in-law Mary Ann (Clyde) Lockwood of North Platte; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mary Jennings; husband, Larry Greenwood; son, Edward Greenwood; and siblings, Bonnie Neely, Nettie Frost and Dale Jennings.

Berneice “Ann” (Ellis) Musil

Berneice “Ann” (Ellis) Musil, 73, of North Platte, passed away on March 8, 2019 at Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln, Nebraska.  She was born on August 6, 1945 to Wesley and Louise (McDowell) Ellis at Stratton, Nebraska.

She graduated from McCook High School and later went on to McCook Beauty Academy, becoming a beautician and instructor.

Ann was employed at Wal-Mart and worked at the Goodwill Store before becoming the manager for South Oaks Manor of North Platte, NE.

Survivors include her children, Angela Kelley, Rob Musil and Kris (Stacy) Musil; grandchildren, Kelsey Kester, Kit Kester, Michaela Nothnagel, Camille Musil, Wyatt Musil, Bailey Musil and Jessica Newman; great-grandchildren, Avery Kester, Henry Nothnagel, Liam Nothnagel, and Remy Newman; her brothers, Ron Ellis and Dennis Ellis; great-nieces, Jenny Howell and Ronna Ellis; great-nephew, Justin Ellis; and other relatives.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Louis Ellis; grandparents, Arthur and Lena McDowell and Alvin and Margaret Ann (Nelson) Ellis.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte with the Rev. Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating.  Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook, Nebraska.  The casket will be closed.  Friends may come to sign Ann’s memorial book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is in care of arrangements.

Jean H. Odbert

Jean Odbert, 88, of Overland Park, Kansas, formerly of North Platte, peacefully passed away at home on March 12, 2019 at Overland Park, Kansas.  Jean was born on March 8, 1931 to Harry J. Hameloth and Emma E. Harold Hameloth in Grand Island, Nebraska.  She grew up on their farm and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1948.

She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, where she met and later married Richard Gordon Odbert of Lone Pine, Nebraska on July 29, 1966.  She later attended beauty school but found her interest in law enforcement.  Jean was among some of the first deputized women in the State of Nebraska, and was a deputy sheriff in Grand Island, Nebraska.

The family relocated to North Platte, Nebraska in 1972 opening Odbert’s Chocolate Shop, and there she also began working for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.  Here she dutifully served the people of Lincoln County for a full career, retiring as office manager.  In post-retirement she later worked for a receptionist for Midlands Family Practice.

She is survived by her three sons, Michael (Patricia) Spencer of Carroll, Iowa, Darryn Odbert and Donald Jochum of Overland Park, Kansas, and Richard B. (Kati) Odbert of Columbus, Nebraska; and one sister-in-law, Jean Hameloth of St. Paul, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Jeff Spencer, Amber Podraza, Andrea (fiance Derek Barrett) Odbert, Emmie (Josh) Whitmore, Gracie Odbert, and Chloe Odbert; as well as five great grandchildren, Brenden, Aiden, and Caylen Podraza, Chloe Spencer and Henry Richard Whitmore.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard G. (Dick), parents, and two brothers, Gordon and Harold Hameloth.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dennis Leitner officiating.  Burial will be at Ft. Keyona Lee Nolda

Keyona Lee Nolda, 45, of North Platte passed away March 12, 2019 at Great Plains Health.

Leonard S. Harper

Leonard S. Harper, age 86 of North Platte, passed away March 9, 2019 at Linden Court with his family by his side.  Leonard graduated from North Platte High School in 1950 and later was united in marriage to Luaine Page on August 24, 1952.

He hired on the U.P.R.R. and worked at the freight house and later was promoted to engineer on the 3rd District until his retirement. Leonard enjoyed fishing at their cabin at Mill Isle on Lake Maloney, gardening, and singing with various groups, including the Cowboy Capital Club and the Living Christmas Tree. He also was involved in Boy Scouts for many years and delivered Meals-on-Wheels for the Senior Center. Leonard was a man of faith and was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and later the Bethel Church.

His family includes his children; Randall (Annie) S. Harper, Virginia Harper, Carol (Scott) Aldrich, Diane Harper, Vince (Dianne) Harper, Kent (Lindy) Harper, and Scott (Kim) Harper, brother; Robert C. Harper, 20 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Luaine, daughter, Sherrie Harper, and brothers, Ed, Christopher, and Alan. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at the Gaslin Cemetery south of Brady. Visitation will be Friday, March 22 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ivan Dale Fillmore

Ivan Dale Fillmore, Sr., 70, of Elkland, Missouri, formerly of North
Platte, died at the Harry S. Truman Memorial VA Hospital in Columbia,
Missouri, on Saturday February 23, 2019.

Ivan was born April 25, 1948, to Orville and Nedra (Pierce) Fillmore at
Strong City, Kansas.  He grew up in Missouri and graduated from
Marshfield High School.  Ivan worked for an ice company before enlisting
in the U.S. Army in 1968.

He was honorably discharged two years later then returned to Missouri
and went to work for an irrigation company, which allowed him to travel
with his job.  His work brought him to North Platte in 1976 where he met
Betty Jean Horn and they were married on January 7, 1978.  They
continued to live in North Platte and later divorced.  Ivan went on to
work for Gayman Sand and Gravel and did construction then eventually
returned to Missouri.

He enjoyed spending time with his horses and going to auctions. He was a
member of the American Quarter Horse Association.

Ivan is survived by his children, Brenda (Randy) Weekly, Ivan Fillmore,
Jr. and Chris Horn and son-in-law, Craig Howell, all of North Platte;
grandchildren, Ryan, Patrick, Daylon, Conner, Otis, Bella, Shakira and
CJ; brothers, Norman Fillmore, of Elbert, Colorado, Phillip Fillmore, of
Holt, Florida and Brian Shaw, of Honolulu, Hawaii; as well as other family.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa ‘Lis’ Howell; and his
parents, Orville Fillmore and Nedra Fillmore Shaw.

Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Odean
Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore.  Burial with Military Honors will
follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to
7 p.m. Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in
