Lawrence “Larry” Pierre DeMilt

Lawrence “Larry” Pierre DeMilt, 73, of Severance, Colorado, departed this world April 9, 2017, at his home.

Larry was born in North Platte on Nov. 12, 1943, to Carroll and Betty (Oberg) DeMllt.

After high school, Larry served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict. After his discharge from the Air Force, he operated a dairy farm near Fort Collins, Colorado, for many years. Larry served Severance as mayor and owned a construction company until his health declined.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carroll, and sister, Carolyn Bryant.

Survivors include his son, daughter and grandchildren; mother, Betty (Dale) Shaner; and sisters, Ann McCants of Lincoln, Jan Mumm and Beth (Alan) Gray, both of Ceresco, Sandy Kelly of Plattsmouth, Sheila (Kevin) Feeney and Cheri (Jon) Bodeman, both of North Platte.

Private inurnment will be at a later date at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with military honors.

Terri J. Lynn Bray

Terri J. Lynn Bray, 45, formerly of North Platte, passed away April 9, 2017, when the good Lord opened his arms to her. Heaven received another angel.

She was loved by many and will be missed beyond words.

She is survived by her daughter, Amber (Shannon) Walker of Bend Oregon; son, Bryce Harmon of New Town, North Dakota; two grandchildren, Alohi and Malia Walker of Bend, Oregon; mother, Yvonne Hiatt of North Platte; sisters, Bonnie (fiancée, Jody Butler) Bray of Ogilvie, Minnesota, Pauline (Bud) Linder of Cozad and Lesa DeCent of North Platte; and brother, Ronald (Heather) Bray of Holdredge.

Cremation was chosen. She went home to live with her daughter.

Arthur Levi Castor

Arthur Levi Castor, Jr., age 65, of North Platte, NE, died Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Alliance, NE.

Arthur was born May 3, 1951, to Arthur Levi, Sr. and Lola Bernice Brown Castor in North Platte and grew up in Maxwell. Arthur graduated from Maxwell High School then started working as a painter for his dad. He later worked for Doris Gregg Painting and Advanced Painting until he had a work related accident that left him disabled.

Arthur was raised in the Assembly of God Church and was a past member of the Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his mother, Lola Castor, of Alliance; siblings, Roger Castor and Sharon (LeRoy) Perkins, of Maxwell, Linda Houchin and Alice Foster, of North Platte, Esther Castor, of Lusk, WY, and Gladys (Bud) Welch, of Alliance; as well as many nieces, nephews and other family.

Arthur was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Castor, Sr.; sister, Barbara Bates; nephew, Michael Reed; nieces, Melissa Bates and Angela Zimmerman; and the love of his life, Patty Jo Bowen.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 1 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2017, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore Pastor Joe Cissell officiating. Inurnment will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Troy Jon Neiman

Troy Jon Neiman, 48, of Brady NE went to “Paradise City” on April 15th, 2017.

Troy was born on May 1, 1968 in Boulder, CO. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Jon and Frances Neiman where he grew up and graduated school from Thedford High School as class president in 1986. He attended Mid-Plains Community College majoring in Auto Mechanics and enlisted into the Army Reserves. After graduating from college, he married Christy Ann Hasenauer of Stapleton, NE in 1989 at Halsey National Park in Halsey, NE.

Troy loved spending time with his family, hunting, gardening, flying his own plane, raising cattle and managing land, loved the military lifestyle, was a NRA member, loved his retired life by spending time with his coffee buddies, and was a member of the American Legion. Troy and Christy moved to his family farm near Whitman in 1996. While there, they were active members of the Mullen Community Church. In 2007, they purchased their own ranch and moved to Brady.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jon and Frances; uncle, Jack; cousin, Joe Neiman; and his favorite cousin, Rex Solomon.

He is survived by his wife, Christy; his daughter, Melissa (Curt) Rice of Gering, NE; sons, Michael (Katie Williams) of North Platte, NE and Matthew (Allison Hood) of Brady, NE; mother, Cheryl Neiman of Denver, CO; sister, Tagwin Egle of Thedford, NE; brother, Trampus Kluender of Grand Island, NE; his favorite aunt Carol and Dr. Terry Lewis of Las Vegas, NV; and many nieces, nephews, and other family.

Services will be on Friday, April 21, at 3 p.m. officiated by Pastor John Stone at Brady Public School Gym with grave side services following with a full military salute at the Brady Cemetery.  The casket will be closed.  Those wishing to sign the register book may do so 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

 

 

 

Robert L. Michaels

On Easter Sunday we celebrated our risen Savior and watched our dad slip away into eternity to be with Jesus! Robert L. Michaels, of North Platte, NE, passed away surrounded by his family on April 16, 2017, at the age of 82.

Bob was born June 2, 1934 to Don and Ruth (Fent) Michaels in Grand Island, NE. In 1952, he graduated from North Platte High School and immediately joined the Navy as a 3rd Class Petty Officer. He served in the Korean War on board the U.S.S. Maddox from 1952-1956. He married Karen A. Michaels (McCune) on December 21, 1958. To this union four children were born. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was so proud of his family and was always there for them. He had a nickname for just about everyone and could make anyone laugh or smile with his sense of humor. He was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Bob retired from the Union Pacific Railroad as a Conductor, where he worked for 32 years. He was a member of the Eagles Club and the Moose Lodge. Known as “Bob Who” by close friends and family, he was very witty and quite the jokester. You would not hear him say anything negative about others. He thoroughly enjoyed his family and the simpler things in life, like sitting around the kitchen table with friends and family, enjoying good food, drink and laughter. Bob and Karen enjoyed attending His Place Church before illness set in.

He is survived by two daughters, Julie (Mike) Hammonds, of Houston, TX and Kelley (Jason) Davis, of North Platte; two sons, Darius (Michelle) Michaels of Lincoln and Lance (Tammy) Michaels, of North Platte; a sister, Beverly Iacobelllis of Manhattan, KS and a brother, Carroll (Nancy) Michaels, of North Platte; 10 grandchildren, Jordan, Taylor, Vance, Shaylene, Jarnell, Setera (Emmett) Gannon, MacKenzie, Jaedyn, Jamon and Jayla; one great granddaughter, Emmersyn and his beloved dogs, Smokey and Bandit. He was preceded in death by his wife Karen, his parents and siblings, Bryon, Gary and Jolene (Morris) Michaels.

A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 19th from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.  A memorial has been established in his name. Condolences, memories may be shared with his family at www.carpentermemorial.com. Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 20th at Berean Church with Jason Davis officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in care of arrangements.

 

Verna Ilene Taylor

Verna Ilene Taylor, age 87 of North Platte, passed away Wednesday April 12, 2017 at Great Plains Health.

Verna was born on November 22, 1929 in Greeley, CO, the 4th child of William John and Zelma G. (Plunkett) Hopping.  She was raised in Grainton, NE until 2nd grade when her folks moved to North Platte where she attended Hall School; then they moved to Bignell, then to Maxwell where she graduated in 1948.  She met her husband William at a dance at the Jeffers Pavilion in North Platte.  They wed on January 7, 1950.  Bill joined the Air Force and she followed him to many places including Illinois, California and Spain.  They loved square dancing.  Verna volunteered in the Blue Bank Community, assisting bereaved family members.  She loved all children, and was a foster grandmother for 7 years, working with children in daycare and schools.  She was also a member of RSVP.  She worked at the Pawnee Hotel, Maxwell Village Clerk, Conley Detlefsen Restaurant, Gleason Truck Co. as a bookkeeper, and managed the Sands Motel.  She kept the books at Twin Rivers Diesel and Duane Oelke Carburetors until 2010 when she had a stroke.  Verna’s hobbies included crocheting, and playing games; she especially loved Pinochle.

Verna is survived by 2 sons, Michael A. Taylor and William Thomas Taylor (Deb Docter) both of CA; daughter Judy L. Taylor of North Platte; 4 grandsons Matthew A. Taylor, Ian Taylor, Mark Taylor, and Andrew Taylor; 1 granddaughter, Amanda Hoven; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Doris Hopping, Barb Hopping, and Mick Hopping; special daughter, Laurie Alger; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Zelma Hopping; her husband Bill; son Danny Joe; and siblings Allen, James, Wayne, Ed, Clifford, Beulah Phifer and Helen Pinkston; uncle, Blaine Plunkett; and a special son, Dan Boone.

Patrick Arthur Thomas

Patrick Arthur Thomas, age 74, of North Platte, NE, died Friday, April 14, 2017, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, NE.

Pat was born January 22, 1943, to Roy and June Maxine Kincaid Thomas in Seattle, WA, where he grew up and attended school. When he was 17 years old, Pat enlisted in the U.S. Army and married his first wife whom he later divorced. Following his discharge in 1963, Pat moved to Los Angeles, CA, and went to work in construction.

In May 1969 Pat married Marcia Torres and they moved to Spokane, WA, where he continued working in construction. The couple had two children, Scott and Jill, and later divorced. Pat then worked on the oil pipe lines in Alaska for several years. He later had a jewelry business which he took to different states.

Pat liked to travel and sell jewelry along the way. He had been to all 48 continental states and decided he liked Myrtle Beach the best. He also loved to fish, especially at Baker Lake. By 2005 Pat moved to North Platte from Spokane and retired to South Oak Manor.

He is survived by his children, Scott (Heather) Thomas and Jill Funk (Bud Vaughn), all of North Platte; seven grandchildren, Cam Thomas, Kody Funk, Ryan Funk, Jonathan Thomas, Alysha Thomas, Jeremy Funk and Isaiah Thomas; former son-in-law, Cory Funk; brother, Tim Thomas, and sisters, Kathy Attosen and Karen (Lanny) Jay, all of Spokane; as well as several nieces, nephews and other family.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and June.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Pastor Tim Eighmy officiating. Inurnment with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Verna Ilene Taylor

Altha M. Hill

Altha M. Hill, age 98, died April 13, 2017 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Atkinson, NE.

Altha was born November 18, 1918 to John William and Mabel Evelyn Newberry in Tryon, Nebraska.  She grew up on the Newberry Ranch in McPherson County and attended a country school graduating with the class of 1938 in Tryon, Nebraska.

On August 3, 1941 she married LaRoy James Millikin.  From this union two daughters were born. LaRoy preceded her in death November 4, 1955.

On July 5, 1959 she married Hewett Lee Hill who brought into this marriage a son Carey Hill. Lee preceded her in death April 20, 1989.

Altha lived at South Oak Manor in North Platte  for several years before retiring to Cherry Hills Manor in Valentine Nebraska.  Because of health reasons she moved to Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Atkinson, Nebraska where she resided until her death.

Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra L. Johnson of Loveland CO. and Cheryl A. Wendt of Pierre, South Dakota Carey Hill of Harrisonville, MO, several grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday April 20, 2017 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with Elder Wayne Godfrey of the Restored Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ officiating.  Those wanting to sign the register book may do so Wednesday April 19, 2017 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.  Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Verna Taylor

Verna Taylor, 87, of North Platte, died April 12, 2017, at Great Plains Health. Services are pending at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home.
