Lewis “Doc” “Lou” Shipley, 82, of Arnold, Nebraska, died March 15, 2017 at Gothenburg Health.

He was born December 27, 1934 in Dora, MO, son of AlFonso and Martha (Freeman) Shipley.

Lou married Delores Price on November 8, 1953 at Fairfax, MO; to this union four children were born.

Lou worked as a mechanic for many years and enjoyed working on cars. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, tending to his garden, and spending time outdoors hunting and fishing.

Surviving are wife, Delores Shipley of Arnold, NE, two daughters, Nancy (Matt) Vickers of Arnold, NE, Christy (Tim) Knapp of Fort Worth, TX; five granddaughters, Lisa (Jay) Lindholm of Gothenburg, NE, Valerie (Ray) Ferris of North Platte, NE, Travi Franssen of Gothenburg, NE, Brynn (Nicole -Friend) Geiser of Omaha, NE, Robbin Knapp of Fort Worth, TX; three grandsons, Rudy (Trish) Vickers of Arnold, NE, Jed (Ali) Geiser of Gothenburg, NE, Mike (Jenna) Knapp of Fort Worth, TX; great-grandchildren, Tracyjay (Allison), SkyeAnna, and Rhett Lindholm of Gothenburg,  Alex and Evan Geiser of Gothenburg, NE, Drake, Clayton, and Camden Ferris of North Platte, NE, Maddix, and Khloe Knapp of Fort Worth, TX, Drew, Charli and Hudson Vickers of Arnold, NE, Emilee and Michon Franssen of Gothenburg,  Zoann Boller of Fort Worth, TX ;three great-great-grandaughters, Charlee and Ali Lindholm of Cozad, NE, Jaylynn Lindholm of Gothenburg, NE; sister-in-law, Alice Shipley of Yerington, NV; brother, Sonny (Glenda) Shipley-Homan of Yerrington, NV; two sisters, Treva Peterson of Sanger, TX, Linda Lee of Fernley, NV; sisters-in-law Sharon (Charlie) Jones of Tarkio, MO and Wanda (Don) Thaden of Waco, TX; special friends, Joe & Cheryl Fisher of North Platte.

Lou was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lewis “Butchie” Shipley, Jr.; daughter, Peggy Jo Ellison; four sisters, Lorene Driskell, Maxine Hale, Ella Mae Hunter, Lola Weller; three brothers, Al Shipley, Jr., Lee Shipley, Johnny Shipley, In-laws, Mildred and D.A. Price.

Memorial services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Monday, March 20, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. David Boyd officiating.

Jason Allen Bartels

Jason Allen Bartels, 36, of Brady was born January 4, 1981 in Cozad, NE and passed away as a result of injuries from an automobile accident on March 15, 2017.  He was a graduate of Brady High School Class of 1999.  Summers during high school were spent working as a ranch hand.  For several years after high school Jason worked for various construction companies.

Jason was blessed with two beautiful children, Leyha Jane and Hunter Gerald.  They were the light of his life.  Princess Leyha lost her battle with cancer at the age of six in November of 2012.  Hunter is his daddy’s boy, and Jason was very proud of him.

One of Jason’s most recent adventures involved assisting Scott Williams hanging billboards.  He also spent the past few years working for Matt Hatch.  He was doing the things he enjoyed, while learning about life from his friend.  They always played the short side.

Jason was a member of TAP pool league.  He loved the game of pool, whether it be with a friend or a foe.  If he liked you, he might even “let you win”.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Leyha, brother Jeremy, sister-in-law Becky, his grandpa Gerald Brown, grandparents Melvin and Alice Bartels.

Survivors include his son Hunter (7), mom Kathy Hoffman, father Mike Bartels, step-dad Ron Hoffman, sisters Jill Miller, Angel Hoffman, Lexi Bartels, and Ricki Bartels;  grandma Velma Jean Brown, nieces Harley, Preslee and Ashlyn, nephew Brock, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Memorials may be made to The Princess Leyha Scholarship Fund.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Monday, March 20, 2017, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

Funeral Services will be held at Brady School, Old Gym, Brady, NE, Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 1:00 pm. with Pastor Mark Hoffman officiating.

Interment will follow in the Gaslin Cemetery, Brady, Nebraska.

Rebecca “Becky” Nichole Bartels

Rebecca “Becky” Nichole Bartels, 33, of Brady, NE, died March 14, 2017 as the result of an auto accident.

Rebecca was born July 13, 1983 in North Platte, NE to Harlan and Kathleen Stevens. She was baptized at Svea Dal Church near Brady and confirmed at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg.

She attended school in Brady and Gothenburg, graduating in 2002. While in high school, she was a member of FFA and was Home Coming Queen. She played basketball and volleyball.

While living in Brady, she met and fell in love with Jeremy Bartels. They married on August 8, 2008; they settled down in Brady where they raised their two beautiful girls Harley and Preslee. Becky went on to help coach elementary girls basketball and volleyball teams. She played on a pool league.

Becky worked many places but there are two that stand out. She enjoyed her job preparing food at the Gothenburg Senior Center for 10 years. She made countless friends while making memories. She then took a job as a cook at the Hitchin’ Post in Brady where she was employed until her death. Becky enjoyed flower arranging, gardening, canning, fishing, camping and most of all cooking.

Survivors include her parents Ken & Barb Stevens, Kathleen & Gary Pfleider, her daughters Harley and Preslee; sister LaDonna (Jeff) Brock of Gothenburg and their sons Ty (Saraid) and their daughter Brinlye; Dade and Dakin; sister Jolene (Chris) Morris of Cozad and children Alyssa, Morgan & Elias; sister Tiffiny (Melissa) Stevens of Westminster, CO and children Alec, Emily & Ian; Kari (Jeff) Perry of Polk, NE and daughter Brandie; brother Jeremyah Stevens of Cozad and children Justin and Jaya; brother Darby (Beth) Stevens of Brady and children Mariah, Jayden, Ashton, Hunter, Kennedi; brother Patrick (Brittany) Stevens of Kearney and children Adyn and Adyson; special friends – Kara Johnson, Molly Miller, Chelsey Dennis, Catie McNew, Gena Brown.

She was preceded in death by her father Harlan Stevens, husband Jeremy Bartels, brother-in-law Jason Bartels, grandparents – Orvin & Lorene Stevens, Ed & Luella Stevens, Robert & Ruth Kruse; nephew Mickale Rosner and niece Leyha Bartels.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Monday, March 20, 2017, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

Funeral will be held at Brady School Old Gym, Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Lonna Grabenstein officiating.

Interment will follow in the Gaslin Cemetery, Brady, Nebraska.

Patsy Ann (Reutzel) Burke

Patsy Ann (Reutzel) Burke, age 75 of Brady passed away peacefully in her sleep March 14, 2017. She was born June 28, 1941 to Frank and Lilly Reutzel in Curtis.  She graduated from Maxwell Public School in 1959.  After school she moved to North Platte and worked as a file clerk for Northwestern Bell. In 1966 she married Gary Burke, and they were happily married for 50 years.  They built a life on the farm outside Maxwell and raised two boys. Patsy was a selfless woman who loved her family unconditionally. She lived a fulfilling life working in her garden in the mornings and in the afternoons she’d spend fishing, reading, sewing, cooking, baking, and playing cards with her family and friends. Her strong work ethic and the love of her big heart for family, friends, and the outdoors will carry on through kids and grandkids for generations.  She was a beautiful woman with a giving heart who will be missed every day.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Daisy Reutzel, Margy Gutherless, and Dan Reutzel.

She is survived by her husband Gary Burke of Brady; sister, Hazel Brakman of Brady; son Pete (Cathy Rolen) Burke of Dalton, GA; their children, Charles and Robert Rolen of Georgia; son Wade (Lisa) Burke of Brady, their children, Monica (finance’ Jake Howe) Burke, Madelyn Burke, Jared Cox, Josie Cox.

Hazel Bea Funk

Hazel Bea Funk, age 85 of Sutherland, passed away Friday March 10, 2017 at the Sutherland Care Center.

Hazel, known as Bea, and later on as Granny, was born on November 14, 1931 in North Platte, NE to Louis and Hazel (Phillips) Bokoskie.  She attended Cody grade school and North Platte Senior High School.  She married William Osborne in 1948 and to this union 5 children were born, Linda Kay, Terry Lee, Jamie Ray, Rocky Tim and Kerby Joe.  After her husband William passed away from cancer, she was married to Charles Funk in 1959 and to this union 2 children were born, Teddy Bill and Sonya Lea.  She worked at various jobs, including Woolworth, King Corner Café, Joe’s Supper Club and the Elks Club, after her children started school.  She also sold every fad that came on the market and she was her own best customer!  She enjoyed camping in Colorado and Montana, and fishing at Sutherland Reservoir, Merritt Dam, Little Lake Ogallala, and the mouth of the Columbus River in Washington. She loved little children and would hug every one that she saw.  The same applied to elderly people, and they all loved her back.  Bea loved to dance to Gary Phipps music with her sister Shirley; they both used her husband as a dance partner and as a designated driver after they had imbibed a few scotch and waters!  When Charlie’s job as a gang foreman on the Union Pacific Railroad required him to travel, Bea would pack up the camper and tents and away they would go, following him from Nebraska to Washington!  She was the best camp cook and she loved parades, and big family gatherings.  She always said “we can have a party, we don’t need a reason!”  Bea fought the terrible Alzheimer’s disease with all her might, but finally lost the battle.  She will be sorely missed by all that knew her.

Bea is survived by her husband Charles; daughters Linda Kay Boyle and Sonya Lea Borunda; sons Terry Lee (Carolyn) Osborne, Rocky Tim (Joyce) Osborne; 11 grandchildren, Shawn, Trampas, Billy, Elery, Laicie, Wylie, Shawna, Ericka, Camille, Taylor and Charlee; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild and one on the way; brother Floyd Bokoskie; sister Shirley Balanga; as well as many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Hazel Bokoskie; husband Bill Osborne; sons Jamie Ray, Kerby Joe, and Teddy Bill who was only 4 years old; sisters Bonnie Wilhelm, Louise Bjorklund, and Mary Neilson; brothers Kenan and Charles; and in-laws Ethel and Joe Osborne, and Verna and Deb Funk.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.  Cremation was chosen and graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 18, 2017 at Riverview Cemetery in Sutherland with Pastor Dale Fischer officiating.  A reception will follow at the Sutherland American Legion Post.  Register book signing will be from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday March 16th and 17th at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

Donna Jean Brott

Donna Jean Brott, 81, of Sutherland, passed away March 11, 2017, at her daughter’s home in McCook.

Donna was born on April 13, 1935, in Sutherland to Wesley and Christine (Bussemer) Emery. Attending school in Sutherland, Donna graduated with the class of 1952. While in high school, Donna belonged to Camp Fire Girls and was a member of the Girl’s Glee Club, the Mixed Chorus, the Sutherland Pep Club and the G.A.A. She also served on the Sutherland High School annual staff.

Donna spent her life in Sutherland until marrying William Lee Brott on Oct. 14, 1956. The couple made their home near Paxton until moving to a farm northwest of Stratton, which was owned by Donna’s parents. The couple was blessed with three children.

Donna belonged to the Lutheran faith. Her hobbies on the farm included gardening, going for walks, crafts, reading and horseback riding. Donna enjoyed the country life until moving back to Sutherland in 1992 to care for her mother. She later moved to McCook in 2014 to live with her daughter, Deanna Brott, while courageously battling cancer.

Proceeding Donna in death were her parents; husband, William; sister, Audrey Lopez; brothers-in-law; and sisters-in-law.

She is survived by three children, Deanna Brott of McCook, Brenda (Calvin) Grube of Indianola, and William D. Brott of Stratton; three grandsons, Brandon Brott, Dalton Fout and Austin Grube; numerous nieces and nephews, including Deborah (Tim) Bullard, Diane Beston and family and Dan Lopez, all of Washington state; cousins, brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and her cat, Kippen.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, at Grace Lutheran Church in Sutherland with Chaplain Dave Davison officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverview Cemetery at Sutherland. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m., on Wednesday, March 15, at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home, McCook, which is in charge of arrangements.

Aneida Violet Mobley

Aneida Violet Mobley, 82, passed away peacefully March 7, 2017.

Born in North Platte on March 11, 1934, she resided in Maricopa, Arizona, and was also a longtime resident of Yuma, Arizona.

Ann retired from a telephone company after 30 years. She owned and operated Baby Bonanza for 10 years in Yuma.

She loved gospel and country music, playing the piano and singing for church and weddings. Special fun times with family and friends and helping others also brought her great joy.

It brings her family peace to know that Ann sings with the angels now.

Ann was preceded in death by her brothers, Julian Raymond Nelson, Will Owen Nelson and Glenn Nelson.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Denise (Robert) Bayles; ex-husband and best friend, Edwin “Ed” Mobley; four-legged friend, J.J.; adored grandchildren, Ched Bayles and Anay Bayles; cherished great-grandson, Ched Bayles Jr.; sister, Patricia Chittenden; and brothers, James Nelson, Richard Nelson, Daniel Nelson, Harold Nelson and Albert Nelson.

Bueler Mortuary, Chandler, Arizona, is in charge of arrangements.
