Robert Faylin Mills

Robert Faylin Mills, age 37, of North Platte, NE, died Sunday, January 15, 2017, in North Platte.

Robert was born February 22, 1979, to Robert Duane and Pamela Sue Finch Mills in North Platte where he grew up and attended school. Robert was later employed by Tyson Foods in Lexington, NE, and Star House Moving in Grant, NE. He also did painting, dry walling and other jobs.

Robert married Stephanie Sheets in Cheyenne, WY, and they later divorced. He then married Shawnda Petty in North Platte.

Robert enjoyed camping and was an avid fisherman. He also liked playing cards, driving fast cars and working on motorcycles. Robert was a talented artist as well as a good bowler.

He is survived by his father, Robert Mills, and mother and stepfather, Pam and Kirk Szwanek, all of North Platte; children, Robert Mills, Jr., of Cheyenne, and Robbie Mills III and Starr Mills, of North Platte; stepsons, Gavin and Gage Sheets, of Cheyenne and Devon Petty, of North Platte; grandmother, Arleen Young, and step grandparents, Adrian and Mary Szwanek, all of North Platte; sisters, Tara Mills (Julio Sturghill), of Memphis, TN, and Heather Mills (friend, Gary Oeltjen), of Juniata, NE; best friend, Allyn McKinzie, of North Platte; nieces and nephews, Adam Canell, Jacob Trejo, Sabrina Mills Torres, Samantha Mills DeCent, Sydney Reed, Destaney Mills and Angel Mills Behrens; aunt, Tracy Finch, of Lexington, NE; and other family.

Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents, Faylin Finch and Duane L. and Mary A. Mills; step grandfather, James Young; and stepmother, Sharon Mills.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family has established a memorial.

Pollyanna Dalby

Pollyanna Dalby, 84, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, formerly of North Platte, passed away Jan. 15, 2017, with her family by her side. Our feisty mom is feisty again with her Savior.

Pollyanna was born on March 17, 1933, to Leland and Evelyn Leach in Arcaida.

On Oct. 1, 1950, she married the love of her live, Willis Dalby. Pollyanna had a nursing career and was a missionary in Africa. They settled in North Platte when her kids were older and bought the Dariet Motel and laundry mats. Then retired and moved to Waxhaw, where they volunteered at the JAARS Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother; granddaughter, Devin Smith; and great-great-grandson, Thatta Baird.

Pollyanna is survived by her husband, Willis; her sister, June; her kids, Patty (Lindy) Smith, Caroline (Bob) Thomas, Dina (Marlin) Trisdale, Jimmy (Gail) Dalby, Heidi (Steve) Roberts and Gary (Lori Ann) Dalby; and numerous grandkids.

She chose to donate her body to science. Services will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Waxhaw Bible Church, 6810 Pleasant Grove Road.

Wesley C. McCaslin

Wesley C. McCaslin, 85, of North Platte, formerly of Hershey, passed away Jan. 18, 2017 at North Platte Care Center.

A memorial has been established in his memory.  Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com.  Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2017 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.  Burial will be at Ft. Anthony B. Hernandez

Anthony B. Hernandez, “AB”, age 66, formerly of Hershey, NE, passed away peacefully at home with his family in Omaha, NE on Tuesday January 17, 2017.

Tony was born in Hershey NE on June 7, 1950 to Ned and Adela (Reyes) Hernandez. He was a graduate of the 1968 class of Hershey High School. Tony served in the US Army and after discharge earned an Associate’s Degree at Central Community College in Hastings NE. Tony was united in marriage to Debra L. Meyer in Hastings, NE on December 27, 1975. He worked as a switchman on the Union Pacific Railroad for 34 years, retiring in July of 2010. In his spare time, he enjoyed coaching youth sports, listening to music, reading newspapers and dancing.

Tony is survived by his wife Debra; sons Nathaniel Hernandez and Adrian (Julia) Hernandez; grandsons Henry and Truman; siblings Gilbert, Leroy and Mike Hernandez and Belle Soto; as well as many other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Virginia Reyes; and brother Rudy Hernandez.

Memorials are suggested in his name to the Arbor Day Foundation and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Cremation was chosen and a memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday January 21, 2017 at the Quality Inn and Suites in North Platte. Hors d’oeuvres, drinks and dancing to follow. LaVay F. Dahlinger

God received one of his greatest angels, LaVay F. Dahlinger, on Jan. 15, 2017. She passed away in a local hospital.

LaVay was born on Jan. 19, 1942, in Maxwell to Lawrence and Adeline Miller. She graduated as valedictorian for her class at Maxwell High School. LaVay worked at the telephone company after graduation.

Soon after, she met Donald Dahlinger and they were married on Oct. 8, 1961. God blessed them with three children, Rod (Gina) Dahlinger of Monroe, Washington, Shannon (John) Patrone and Kent (Cecelia) Dahlinger, all of Albuquerque. They blessed her with 17 grandchildren, Taryn (Steven) Bertetto, Keaton, Austin, Brandi Jo, McKenna, Justus, Rafe, Cameron, Talen, Keeley, McKenzie, Melody, Tyla, Naomi, Jacelyn and Nyla; and one great-grandchild, Landon. LaVay’s children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.

LaVay mastered many talents; her favorite was serving the church. She also loved watching her grandchildren in their many different passions.

LaVay worked at Thomas Lehman Chiropractic and Dr. Eric Hadady for the past 28 years, where she became a friend, comforter and healer to those she served.

LaVay will be dearly missed, and her love will continue to be felt by the many lives she touched.

Paul R. Goosey

Paul R. Goosey, age 71, of North Platte, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Great Plains Health from COPD and pneumonia. Paul was born May 13, 1945 in Memphis, Missouri to Harold L. and Myrtle M. (Stone King) Goosey.  When Paul was young his family moved to Idaho, later to California, and then to Nebraska.  Paul was a 1964 graduate of Brady High School.

After high school, he worked various jobs before being drafted into the Army in 1967. He went to Fort Polk, Louisiana for jungle training before being sent to Vietnam. He served from 1967 to 1968.  Back stateside, he was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey until his discharge in April 1969.  On May 17, 1970, Paul was united in marriage to Janice Broge of North Platte. To this union two sons were born, Marcus and Matthew Goosey, both of North Platte. Paul worked for the city of North Platte for 37 years, retiring in November 2007 for health reasons.

Paul is a lifetime member of the Stapleton VFW Chapter 8258 and a member of Stapleton American Legion Chapter 324. He is also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 3 of North Platte.

He is survived by his wife Janice of 46 years; sons Marcus and Matthew of North Platte; brothers, Harold (Donna) Goosey, Harry Goosey, Donald (Mary) Goosey, all of North Platte, and Glen (Janene) Goosey of Phoenix, AZ; brother-in-law, Craig (Lori) Broge of Sutherland; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold L Goosey and Myrtle M. (Stone King) Goosey Patterson; Step-father, Lowell Patterson; brother, Gary Vic Goosey; mother and father-in-law, Gertrude and Foster Broge; and sister-in-law, Linda Broge.

Nina Ruth Messick

Nina Ruth Messick, age 86, of Brady, Nebraska, died Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Nina was born September 7, 1930, to Vernon and Mary Messick at Mountain Park, Oklahoma, and by the age of 12, the family had moved to Southern California. Nina attended school in Hunington Park then went to work as a waitress which she did until 1993.

She was married for a time and had three children. When Nina was diagnosed with cancer she started taking treatments in Northern California until 1996 when she heard of a man, Benny Hinn, who was in Omaha with his Miracle Crusades. After going to Omaha she then traveled with a group to Israel where she was baptized in the Jordan River and walked the 12 Stations of the Cross. When she returned to Nebraska Nina moved to North Platte then Brady in 2005. Nina worked as a waitress and did home health care until retiring.

Nina is survived by her daughters, Gina Cabral, of Texas, and Tina Schultz and Rosina Handley, of California; many grandchildren; and other family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Mary Messick; brothers, Earl and Ronald Messick; and sisters, Ernestine Bowman, Louise Jorgenson and Velda Messick.

Roger Anton Sylvan

 

roger-antonRoger Anton Sylvan, age 84, of Gothenburg, passed away January 14, 2017 in Gothenburg.  Roger was born on August 25, 1932, son of Anton Edward and Grace (Handley) Sylvan, who lived North of Gothenburg.    Roger attended school at Gothenburg, and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1950.  While living on the farm, he was called to duty with the United States Army in 1953, at the end of the Korean War.  He was stationed in Verdun, France.  He served for two years until he was honorably discharged.

Roger went back to live on the farm North of Gothenburg in Custer County until later in life, when he moved to a nearby farm in Dawson County.  He was content and dedicated as he worked on the farm, as he continued living there for the remaining years of his life.  He loved all animals and was kind-hearted.  He also enjoyed all kinds of sports.

Survivors include a sister, Mae (Gary) Fisher of California; a brother, Leo (Shirley) Sylvan; nephew, Loren (Heather) Sylvan; nieces, Sue (Ron) Coles, and Nancy (Rico) Garcia; and many extended family members.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Grace Sylvan.

Paula Rose Windhorst

 

paula-rose-windhorstPaula Rose Windhorst, 99, of North Platte, passed away January 15, 2017 at Great Plains Health.

She was born September 17, 1917 in Lincoln County, NE, the oldest child of Gustave and Ida (Fleer) Roethemeyer.  Paula was baptized and confirmed in the beautiful Lutheran faith and was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Platte. She grew up on her father’s farm in the Wellfleet and Maywood communities. She attended Mount Pleasant country school, middle school in Maywood, and graduated from the Curtis High School in 1936.  After graduation, she spent a year in Business School in North Platte, and then worked for the Berg Typewriter Company and the Wurlitzer Music Company.  She was married to Walter D. Windhorst in 1938.  They made their home in North Platte, where they had 4 children.   She was active in the Bethel Bible Study Program for over 10 years, first as a class member and trainee, than as a teacher for 3 years.  She was a volunteer at the Great Plains Hospital for over 37 years.

She is survived by her sons, Robert (Norine) Windhorst, Douglas (Marlene) Windhorst and Steven (Michele) Windhorst; a daughter, Pamela (Mark) Bishop; a brother, Willis (Greta) Roethemeyer; a sister-in-law, Mary Roethemeyer; a cousin, Marge Roethemeyer; grandsons, Dr. Robert (Tana) Windhorst, II, Dustin (Carrie) Windhorst and Riley Windhorst; a granddaughter, Kimberly (Brad) Holman; great grandsons, Jacob Patrick Windhorst, Bryson Dean Windhorst, Paxton Drew Windhorst, Woodrow Robert Windhorst and Prescot Brent Windhorst; great granddaughters, Lilly Jo Windhorst, Kira West Holman and Gwendolyn Rose Holman; 7 nephews; and 12 nieces.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Eileen Klingsborn; and two brothers, Melvin and Oscar Roethemeyer.

John R. Feeney

John R. Feeney, 87, of Maxwell passed away January 16, 2017 at his home after his battle with A.L.S.  He was born October 1, 1929 on the family farm to John C. and Fern G. (Everling) Feeney.  He attended District #117 school and graduated from Maxwell High School in 1947.  After graduating John worked as a farm hand and was drafted into the United States Army in 1951 and was discharged in 1953.  On March 8, 1952 he married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Ann Hughbanks.  After his discharge from the service they moved back to Maxwell where he worked for the Lincoln County Department of Roads and then was the Village of Maxwell maintenance man and Village Marshall.  In 1978 he hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked until his retirement in 1998.

John enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working in his huge yard.  He loved watching his grandchildren participate in their activities.  He was a member of the Maxwell Legion Post #181 and served as the Maxwell Fire Department Chief for a number of years.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of 64 years; children, John Matthew and special friend Jerry Alvarez of Maxwell, Terre Feeney, Tim (Pam Halverson) Feeney, Tom (Opal Bullard) Feeney, and Judy Feeney-Sturdivant all of Maxwell; siblings, Alice Feeney of North Platte, Hazel Durre of Kearney, Donna (Marion) Effenbeck of North Platte, Darrell (Terrlyn) Feeney of Fairbury, Rose (Don) Fletcher of Maxwell, Glenda Feeney of Maxwell, Kevin (Sheila) Feeney of North Platte, and Ted (Ellen) Feeney of Maxwell; grandchildren, John Aaron Feeney, Ryan Rankin, Andrew (Courtney) Feeney, Alexander (Ashley) Feeney, Kyle (Shandell) Rankin, Eamonn Feeney, Anthony Bryce Feeney, Kyer Feeney, Brittany Feeney, and Jaylon Sturdivant; great-grandchildren, Breydon Robirds, Noah Rankin, Alayna Feeney, Brooklyn Rankin, Aiden, Benson, and Carson Feeney.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Amber Feeney; brothers, James and Robert; brothers-in-law, Gary Hughbanks, and Donald Durre; and a sister-in-law, Bernadine Feeney.
