Sherlyn Kay “Sheri” Bartholomew Hasbrouck, age 65, of North Platte passed away January 1, 2017 at her home.  Sheri was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in North Platte, NE to Homer and Ruth (Cheever) Bartholomew.

Sheri was married to Rod Hasbrouck on November 9, 1977.  Rod was in the Marine Corps and in turn they traveled around quite a bit.  Sheri lived in the Carolinas for many years.  She ended up coming back to North Platte to be near family.  She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and wanted more time with them.  She will be remembered as a very loving and giving soul, who would share whatever she had, except her pepsi!

Survivors include her daughters, Angela (Collin) O’Connell of Norfolk, and Keri (Cody) Allen of North Platte; sons, Tony (Tammy Castor) Eckhoff of North Platte, Richie (Amanda) Tannerhill, and R.J. (Emily Rector) Hasbrouck; 19 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jody, Shirley, and Jan; brothers, Homer and Mikey Ray; several nieces, nephews, family members, and friends; and her best friend Maggie May.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Beverly; brother, Dale; infant son, little Kent; and a great-granddaughter, Alana McKenzie.

Family led memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Ryan Alexander officiating.  Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. today at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.  Cremation will follow and her ashes will be scattered back in the Carolinas.  Adams and Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

James Gordon Snyder was born on Oct. 23, 1937, in North Platte, NE to Miles William & Hollis Elisabeth (Blackstone) Snyder.  He passed away on Jan. 1, 2017, at home, surrounded by his family, who had been his caregivers the last few months. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Brandon Lee Blake; mother and father-in-law, Wayne and Eva (Bassett) Connell.  He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Kathryn Joyce (Connell) Snyder; three daughters, Janelle (Kim) Blake, Jill  McNutt, Jacquie (Mark) Glaubitz; three granddaughters, Micki Schmidt, Megan Krein (Casey Renner), and Margo (Frank) Morton; three grandsons, Arlis (Andrea) Blake, Nathan McNutt, Nicholas Gifford; six great grandsons, Zachary Schmidt, Brandon Blake, Ethan Schmidt, Kaden Blake, Wyatt Krein and Lincoln Renner, brother, Jerry (Carolyn) Snyder, sister, Jean (Gary) Kemp, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Jim spent his life on the Ten Bar Ranch which was his heritage and his home for his entire life.  Besides ranching, he spent many hours restoring collectible Dodge pickups and vintage tractors.

Jim collected pickups, making his last purchase just two weeks ago. He had a full-time job, just making sure they all stayed driven.  He was an excellent mechanic, often troubleshooting problems over the phone.

Jim was a great historian and master storyteller, often getting the giggles in the telling.  He enjoyed airshows, car shows, parades and working puzzles of all kinds.

Jim’s passion was flying, holding his pilot’s license for over 50 years.  He started early, flying with Miles in the Taylorcraft the 11 miles to school before they had a highway.  Many hours were also spent checking on cattle and wells, buzzing coyotes, and cutting holes in the sky.  He attended first grade in Sutherland and thereafter school in Tryon, graduating with the class of “55”.

Jim purchased his only plane in 1963, a Cessna 170B, 3584 Charlie.  He was most often accompanied by Joyce, his wife, co-pilot and navigator.  Jim and Joyce visited 49 states, 8 Canadian provinces, the Arctic Circle and the Bahamas.

Jim attended his first Cessna 170 convention in West Memphis, TN, in 1975.  Jim and Joyce enjoyed many conventions, collecting many friends along the way.

The air is smooth, all runways are open, and the pattern is clear.

Brenda Lynn Schroeder, 40, of Lincoln, formerly of North Platte, passed away December 31, 2016 in Lincoln.

Brenda was born January 29, 1976 in North Platte to William E. and Mildred J. “Jeannie” (Roberson) Leeper. She graduated from Maywood High School in 1994, and attended Mid Plains Community College before hiring on to the Union Pacific Railroad in 1999. Brenda was currently working as an engineer for UPRR.

Brenda was an avid Husker fan and enjoyed their games. She also enjoyed hunting, and spending time with her niece and nephew, Emma and Jackson, special friend, Makenna, as well as friends and family. Brenda formed the Chris Jurgens Memorial Softball Tournament in North Platte in memory of her great uncle.

Survivors include her parents, Jeannie and Dennis Greenwood of Wellfleet and Bill and Deb Leeper of Aurora, CO; brothers, Brent Leeper of North Platte, and Beau Greenwood of Wellfleet; sisters, Kerrin Greenwood of North Platte and Samantha Leeper; niece, Emma Joy; nephew, Jackson; grandmother, Frannie Greenwood of Wellfleet; special aunt Judy Hovland of Wellfleet; special friend, MaKenna Snider of North Platte; and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bert and Alice Roberson, Marvin Greenwood, Sarah Leeper, and Ed and Dorothy Leeper; uncles, Robbie, Tom, Jack Roberson and Joe Leeper; infant sister, Michelle Leeper; and many other family members.

Virginia Dorothy Rector, age 90, of North Platte, NE, passed away at the Sutherland Care Center on Wednesday, December 21, 2016.

Virginia was born January 14, 1926, to James Paul and Eva Bertha Willeford Karis in North Platte where she grew up and graduated from North Platte High School.

Virginia was united in marriage to Edwin Melvin Rector, Jr. on April 16, 1944, in North Platte where they made their home and raised a family. They were married for nearly 46 years when Ed passed away in 1990. Virginia had worked at The Shepherd’s in her later years and always enjoyed her coworkers. She was also a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Savior.

Virginia was a loving, caring mother. She liked to read, sing and dance. But most of all, Virginia loved her family and spending time with them, especially her grandkids.

She is survived by her children, Thomas (Bonnie) Rector, Leslie (Mark) Johns and Lynne (Lynn) Frederick, all of North Platte; eight grandchildren, Michael (Brooke) Johns, Matthew (Gina) Johns, Mollie Johns, Chris Rector, Samone Greenhagen, Jennifer Cotton, John Rector and Jessie Rector; eight great-grandchildren; her brother, George (Annette) Karis, of Anderson, SC; sister, Louise Matson, of Lincoln, NE; as well as several nieces, nephews and other family.

Along with her husband, Ed, Virginia was preceded in death by their infant son, John Edwin; her parents, James and Eva Karis; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Edith Karis; granddaughter, Johna Jochum Morvant; great-grandkids, Peyton and Parker Rasmussen; and nephew, Joel Matson.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 10 a.m., Monday, January 9, 2017, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Father Jeffrey Nelson officiating. Inurnment will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Marjorie Ruth Frels, age 105, of Sutherland, NE passed away December 21, 2016 at the Sutherland Care Center.
Marjorie was born on June 14, 1911 in Garden County near Lisco, NE to Elzi and Flora (Powell) Wollam. She moved to Arkansas as a small child, returning to Stockville, NE in 1914. Marge married Jess Warner in 1927 and to this union six children were born, Opal, James, Merrill, Ronald, Patricia and Peggy. The family moved to the Hershey area. Jess passed away in 1947 and Marge moved to Sutherland in 1950. She married Clarence Frels in 1957. Marge loved bowling and she traveled all over the United States to bowling tournaments. She loved playing bridge and golfing, and was a worldwide traveler. Her big passion was dancing. Marge worked at the North Platte Canteen and was a gracious lady who was always smartly dressed. She was very patriotic, and nothing gave her greater pleasure than seeing the American flag waving in the air.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter Peggy (Don) Rotert; son James (Genie) Warner; 15 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and 33 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Jess Warner and Clarence Frels; daughters Patricia Fitch and Opal Barkley; sons Merrill and Ronald Warner; five sisters and four brothers.

Helen Eileen Howey, age 94, of Gering, NE, formerly of North Platte, NE, passed away at Heritage Estates in Gering on Tuesday, December 27, 2016.

Helen was born April 11, 1922, at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and was later adopted by Carl and Anna Anderson. She grew up in Nebraska, between Arnold and Callaway, and attended school at Arnold and Maxwell, graduating from Maxwell High School in 1940.

In 1941 Eileen married Robert Howey and they moved to Nevada where he worked in construction. When Bob served in the military Eileen moved back to Nebraska to live with her parents. After his discharge Bob and Eileen moved to Brady Island where they farmed, raised cattle and worked damn hard! They also had three daughters, Sandy, Sheila and Bobbi.

By 1970 they moved to North Platte and Eileen went to work for Hinky Dinky grocery store. In 1979 she started working for Dr. Larson and Dr. Britton. She worked as a medical assistant until 1994 when she had a stroke and had to retire.

Eileen was a member of the Tallin Union Church, north of Gothenburg. She was also a life member of B.P.O. Does Drove #109 and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #183. Eileen was feisty and fun loving all her life. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Bobbi Turner, of Gering, NE; nine grandchildren, Chris (Ryan) Schultis, of Tryon, NE, Mike (Gladys) Henry, of North Platte, Suzanne (Brian) Heflin, of Kansas City, MO, Bev (Tim) Larsen, of Kearney, NE, Erik Albertson, of Omaha, NE, Melinda (Rick) Strain, of Scottsbluff, NE, Kristi Welsh, of Gering, Pam (Michael) Engelhaupt, of Minatare, NE, and Patti Miller of Las Vegas, NV; 13 great-grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren; and other family members.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Anna Anderson; and two daughters, Shelia Albertson and Sandra Henry.

Cremation was chosen. A Gathering in Celebration of Eileen’s life will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore.
