Roger W. Sprague

Roger W. Sprague, 73, of North Platte passed away October 18, 2016 at his home.
Roger was born November 13, 1942, in North Platte to Wilmer and Margaretta (Prosise) Sprague. He grew up in North Platte, where he attended North Platte Public Schools. Roger enlisted in the United States Army, being stationed in Germany, and later being transferred to the National Guard. He worked for the City of North Platte and at the Rock Island Railroad out of Chicago. He hired on the UPFE in 1968. On April 29, 1969 he married Kathy McEntire in North Platte. To this union were born two daughters. In 1985 he was promoted to foreman, retiring in 2002.
Roger’s hobbies were amateur ham radio, and golfing with his friends and grandsons. He was a whiz at electronics, and was a man who loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Kathy of North Platte; daughter, Liane Sprague of North Platte; grandchildren, Trent, Tyler, and Quentin of North Platte, Tyrel of Oklahoma City, and Christian and Rylea Diaz of North Platte; great-grandchildren, Tatum, Braelynn, and EverLeigh; sisters, Betty Nichols, Julie (Tony) Pitre, and Donna Cross; and several other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Kim, and daughter Michelle Diaz; infant son, Brent; granddaughter, Cydney Diaz; and brothers, Steve, and Harold.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2016 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Joe Chitwood presiding. Erla Lucille Peck

Erla Lucille Peck passed away October 18, 2016 peacefully with her husband and all her children by her side. She was born March 11, 1932 to Elmer and Bessie (Whiting) Telitz. She grew up in North Platte, NE where she attended North Platte Senior High School. Erla and Frank C. Peck Sr. found true love in 1948, where brick by brick, board by board they built their home in North Platte which was a requirement of her father before he would allow them to be united in marriage on November 22, 1950. Starting on March 4, 1952 she gave birth to her first child which was just the beginning of raising a family of seven children, nineteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and multiple nephews, nieces, neighborhood children, and friends. Erla, her mother, and sisters (Delores, Betty, and Charlene) ran the first airport cafe restaurant. They also helped feed the soldiers at the canteen. She was a Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church, room mother for years at Jefferson Elementary School and Chaplin for the Women of the Moose Lodge. Erla and Frank sponsored many youth activities such as holding dances, camping trips and pool tournaments at the Moose Lodge. Her love and laughter was contagious. She always found the goodness and the positive in everything and everyone. She always taught you to believe that no hurdle could not be overcome. She instilled that into her family and everyone she met. After retirement, Frank and Erla traveled the country. They spent their winters in paradise in warmer climates with friends and siblings having a great time, until they started missing their children and grandchildren and decided to return home early to see them. She enjoyed camping, spending time with her family, and watching her five generations of offspring enjoy and help each other through life.
She is survived by her husband Frank Peck Sr.; her children, Frank (Cheryl) Peck Jr., Chris (Ron) Richardson, Deanna (Frank) Savage, Jeanna (Joe) Koubek, Steve (Lorena) Peck, Tanya (Todd) Gayman; grandchildren, Travers (Jodi) Richardson, Vicki (Brent) Langemeier, Trent (Melissa) Richardson, Robby (Meghan) Peck, Tylan Gayman, Jamie (Aaron) Koubek, Kandace (Grady) Carpenter, Tusten Gayman, Jade (Brittany) Koubek, Jaustin Koubek, Lane (Sidney) Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Karsen (Jimmy) Falcon, Lane Richardson, Jordan (Michael) Richardson, Kaden Langemeier, Kyler Peck, Brittney Richardson, Mekennah Kemp, Maylah Langemeier, Madden Fattig, Jaylen Koubek, Andrew Richardson, Kambree Kemp, Steven Richardson, Madelyn Koubek, Coy Gayman, Jaxon Koubek; great-great-grandchildren, Greah Falcon and Taylar Beisner; sister, Charlene (Dave) Titus,; In-laws, Bill(Vina) Peck Sr., Dale(Carol) Douglas, and Barbara Telitz; and endless friends that were actually family in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Bessie Telitz; daughter, Kathleen Jo Peck; grandson, Frankie Lloyd Peck; sisters, Delores (Bill) Thrash, and Betty (Bucky) Layton; brothers, Vern (Velma) Telitz, Bob Telitz, and Rick Telitz.

Vernon Louis Lutes

Vernon Louis Lutes, age 93 of Tryon, Nebraska, went home to be with his Savior and Lord on October 15, 2016, at Pioneer Memorial Rest Home in Mullen, where he lived since May 2, 2016. Vernon was born March 20, 1923, to Louis D. and R. Ernestine (Hanna) Lutes at their home in southern Thomas County. He lived with his family in Thomas, Arthur, Cheyenne, and Logan Counties in NE. He was the second of 13 children, (the oldest son), so learned to work very early in life. He drove a team of work horses at a young age and was most comfortable on the back of a good horse. He ranched with his father and brothers, and later his son-in-law and grandson. He broke horses and worked for ranchers in the Stapleton-Thedford community.
Vernon attended various grade schools, graduating from the 8th grade with high honors from Logan County schools. He chose not to attend high school.
Vernon served his country in the Army from March 21, 1946, until September of 1947. He was stationed in the southeastern part of the USA. He married the love of his life, Pauline (Pat) Tiffany on June 27, 1948. To this union three children were born, Maynard Eldon, Connie Ann, and Karen Kay. He and Pat celebrated 65 years of marriage before her death in 2014.
Vernon and Pat moved to McPherson Co. NE, in 1951, from his parents’ place in Logan County. He owned 2 places, one near Miller Cemetery and the other 12 miles N. of Tryon. He was a dedicated and hard-working rancher, loving every part of the work. He was able to continue ranching with his son-in-law and grandson until he was in his 90’s. Ranching and his family were his life.
Vernon came to know Jesus as his personal Savior and Lord at a revival service as a child. He was an active member of Hall Church of rural McPherson Co. NE and was on the church board for years. He was Sunday School Superintendent and taught the adult class also. He played a big part in Bethel Bible Camp, first at Sutherland and later at Wellfleet, being a member of the board. While his health permitted, he never missed a “work day” at church or camp.
Vernon learned to play guitar and sang and played for many “parties” and later with his wife and children. He and Pat sang for many occasions. Vernon was a very friendly person, never knowing a stranger and helping anyone in need. Everyone he knew was a friend. He was a wonderful loving Dad and Granddad.
Vernon loved to hunt deer and coyotes. He rode along on deer hunting trips after he was 92. He had coyote hounds and was a successful hunter for years.
Survivors include his children: Maynard (Susie) Lutes of Decatur, IL, Connie (Gerald) Pascetti of Hayden, CO, and Karen (Dennis) Licking of Tryon, NE; 12 grandchildren, Shelli (Robert) Smart, Julie (Jeff) Smothers, Brad (Heather) Lutes, Stephanie (Robert) Coins, Nicole Lutes, Matthew Miner, Christopher Miner, Amy Miner, George (Anna) Licking, Liz (Eric) Dennis, Anna Licking (Brady Allison), and Ruth Licking; 7 great-grandchildren, Adam Smart, Katie (Camden) Broderick, Madison Smart, Kurt Shipman, Jordan Coins, Jacob Miner, AraLeigh Licking; brothers and sister-in-law, Joyce Lutes, Alice Lutes, Loren (Janis) Lutes, Inez (Jim) Fattig, Phoebe (Frank) Martin, Olive (Stan) Gurney, Esther (Tom) Harmon, Doris Tiffany and Dean Thompson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Vernon was preceded in death by his wife, Pat on January 29, 2014; parents, Louis and Ernestine Lutes, father and mother-in-law, Clifford and Zina Tiffany; son-in-law, Gary Miner, daughter-in-law, Robin Lutes, brothers and sister-in-law Flora Connell, Ernest and June Lutes, Susan and Alfred Shimmin, Nathan Lutes, Stephen Lutes, Martin Lutes, Keith Lutes, Lurene and Robert Zentz, Wayne Tiffany, and Doris Thompson.

John Wallace Joneson

John Wallace Joneson, age 69, of North Platte, NE, died Friday, October 14, 2016, at Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln, NE, following an accident.

John was born November 15, 1946, to Wallace Belstrom and Barbara Ann Andreau Joneson in Washington, DC. The family lived in Gothenburg, NE, then moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where he attended school. John joined the U.S. Navy then returned to Florida following his discharge.

On February 25, 1966, John was united in marriage to Sherry Dawn Lynn in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. They moved to Nebraska and lived in Gothenburg, Brady and by 1987 had settled in North Platte. John worked for Gothenburg Feed Products then Farmland Service Co-op. He also served on the Brady Volunteer Fire Department from 1971 to 1985, was Brady Fire Chief from 1975-85, then went to work for the North Platte Fire Department in 1985. John was an EMT paramedic and became a Captain in 1996. He was also a member of the Local #831 and was the Western Vice-president of International Association of Fire Fighters. John loved his job and had received many awards from the fire department.

In May of 2011 John retired and enjoyed spending time with his family and taking vacations. He loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time at their activities.

John leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Sherry, and sons, Brett (Kim) Joneson and Tonn Joneson, all of North Platte; daughter, Krista (Dallas) Choat, of Albion, NE; seven grandchildren, Cole and Caden Joneson, Bailey, Dylan, Dayton and Kailyn Choat, and Nevaeh Joneson; brother, Jim Joneson, of Lincoln, NE; sister, Jo Anne Nuss, of Miami, FL; as well as several nieces, nephews and other family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Barbara; and brother, Jeffrey Joneson.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2016, at the North Platte Berean Church with Pastor James R. Mann officiating. Sherry Margaret Keuter

Sherry Margaret Keuter passed away peacefully at the age of 63 in her residence at Lake Maloney surrounded by family on Monday, October 10, 2016. She was born on May 25, 1953 to Joan (Lamplaugh) Anderson and Levi Anderson Jr. in Sutherland, NE. She grew up loving life and never passed up a good sale. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and wife. She grew up in Sutherland and graduated from NPHS in 1971 and attended college for 2 years at NPCC.

After school she married Rick in 1975 and they both traveled the US, living in NH, CA, TX, and OH where she mostly resided, then she and Rick moved back to NP to take care of her mom, Joan. Sherry was always caring for everyone around her and her laughter was contagious. She took pride in being a caring, loving and nurturing daughter, mother and wife as well as running her own interior design firm while in Dayton, OH. She enjoyed antiques (always looking for the best sale or deal), refinishing furniture, creating art, interior decorating and spending time with her family and friends.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Linda (Anderson) Johnston.

She is survived by her loving husband of 41 beautiful years, Richard L. Keuter of North Platte; son, Rick and his wife Erica; 2 granddaughters Chloe and Charlotte Keuter, all residing in Redondo Beach, CA; son, Ryan and his fiancé Rena of Denver, CO; brothers, Rick L. and wife Sue Anderson of Paxton, and Levi (III) and wife Joyce Anderson of North Platte and many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her life-long friend Linda (Shattuck) Henry of Petoskey, MI.

Her joyous spirit will be celebrated with private services on November 11, 2016 at Fort McPherson Cemetery. The family would like to express thanks for the wonderful help and care given by Great Plains Home Health, especially R.N. Josh Lorenz and Hospice as well as Dr. Janet Bernard for her personal care. Donald E. “Don” Musser

Donald E. “Don” Musser, 91, of Hooker County passed away October 16, 2016 at his home. Don was born June 23, 1925 to Sam and Minnie (Bassett) Musser in Grant County.
When he was three years old the family moved to a ranch between the forks of the Dismal River. They eventually bought a ranch south of the river where he continued to live and work until his passing.
Don loved ranching, fishing, hunting arrowheads, his dogs, but most of all his family. He married Daisy Lee on February 15, 1952, and to this union eleven children were born.
Don is survived by his wife Daisy of Tryon; children, Debbie, Cathy (Jerry) Moritz, Nick (Brenda), Randy (Kim), Shane (Barb), Kim (Gene) Simonton, Shari all of Tryon, Becki Medich, and Mitch Musser both of North Platte; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Griffith of Tryon, and Georgia Trout of North Platte; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Minnie Musser; sons, Stacey and infant, Justin; sisters, Helen Morrow, and Elsie Fiorea; and a brother, Sam.

Dennis ‘Cooney’ Breaux

Dennis ‘Cooney’ Breaux, age 62, of Sutherland, NE, died Friday, October 14, 2016, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Dennis was born April 17, 1954, to Ogden J. and Rena L. Breaux in Jennings, LA. He grew up in Mermentau, LA, and graduated in 1972 from Midland High School. In 1974 Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Army. He married Connie Miller at Mermentau and they had a daughter, Bridget.

Dennis came to Sutherland in 1990 for a three month job and never left. On January 15, 2005, he was united in marriage to Carrie Burrows and they continued to live in Sutherland. He was employed by LU #464 until retiring in 2012.

Dennis enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, watching Nebraska football, and especially loved his dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie, of Sutherland; daughter, Bridget Breaux (Angel Lopez), of Oviedo, FL; the most beautiful granddaughter in the world, Gabby Lopez; his sister, Wanda (Don) Bonnie, of Mermentau; brother, Terry (Rosemary) Breaux, of Port St. Lucie, FL; as well as several nieces, nephews and other family members.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Ogden and Rena.

Cremation was chosen. Graveside Service with military honors will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2016, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com. The family has established a memorial. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.

Sandra Sue ‘Sam’ Patterson

Sandra Sue ‘Sam’ Patterson, age 60, of North Platte, NE, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016, at Bryan Medical Center East in Lincoln, NE.

Sam was born October 22, 1955, in Sterling, CO, then adopted by James Alexander and Ione Magdeline ‘Becky’ Beckley Patterson. The family lived in Lewellen, NE for a while then moved to Ogallala, NE where Sam graduated from high school with the Class of ’74. While in high school, she was recognized as Teen of the Month and Citizen of the Year for her work with the handicap.

After graduation, Sam moved to Lincoln, NE where she attended Nebraska Wesylan University and during the summers worked as a counselor at Norweska Methodist Church Camp. Sam received her B.A. in English then went on to teach in Kimball, NE. Sam eventually earned her M.A.R. Degree from Iliff School of Theology in Denver, CO in 1985 then began her ministry with the Methodist Church.

Pastor Sam was first assigned to the United Methodist Church in Neenah, WI, then moved to Windsor, CO to work at Faith United Church of Christ. She went back to school at Iliff and graduated with a M.D.V. in 1993. Pastor Sam then became the Associate Pastor at First United Methodist Church in North Platte. After seven years she was assigned to be Pastor at the Methodist Churches in Shickley and Ong, NE. Pastor Sam worked in the communities for the next two years before she had to take disability leave due to health concerns and return to North Platte.

Pastor Sam had great faith in the Lord and enjoyed her ministry. She also loved the snow and was a talented musician. She played the clarinet from 4th grade through high school and continued playing in college with the marching band and concert band. When Sam moved to Wisconsin she played in the Neenah Community Band and they had the opportunity to tour and perform in Europe. She also learned to play bells both in a choir and solo.

Along with her churches, Sam was a member of the Nebraska Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, a board member with Habitat for Humanity and attended the UMC Monday Musicale.

Sam leaves behind her loving parents, Jim and Becky Patterson, of Oshkosh, NE; and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; and cousins, Larry Beckley, Merlin Orr and Shirley Flohr.

Funeral Service will be 1 p.m. (CT) Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. (MT) in the Ash Hollow Cemetery in Lewellen. Visitation will be at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the First United Methodist Church, Bell Choir, Habitat for Humanity or the Donor’s Choice. Condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com.
