Harriet M. Phipps, 88, of Mullen died Sunday, May 8, at Pioneer Memorial Rest Home in Mullen

Arlene Ruth Pace
Arlene Ruth Pace, 76, of North Platte, passed away peacefully May 5, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born April 29, 1940 to Marion and Freda (Lindemeier) Nutt at Elsie, NE. She graduated from Elsie High School with the class of “57”. On July 24, 1957, Arlene was united in marriage to Ray Pace at Grant, NE. They moved to North Platte in 1965, where Arlene was employed at A&W Restaurant as a waitress and manager for over 18 years. She taught Sunday school at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and enjoyed ceramics and portrait painting. She is survived by her husband, Ray of North Platte; four children, Freda (Mike) Fredrickson of North Platte, Morse (Barb) Pace of Lincoln, Rodney (Mary) Pace and Raelene (Joe) Waltemath both of North Platte; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; three brothers, Wayne (Freda) Nutt of Dickens, Tom (Sharon) Nutt of Holdrege and Glen Nutt of Elsie. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Dwight Nutt; two sisters, Bertha Harvey and Norma Nutt; two brothers, Marlin and Morse Nutt; and a granddaughter, Angel Pace. Mabel Mary Gilkeson
Mabel Mary Gilkeson, longtime resident of Sutherland, NE, passed away at the age of 100 on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Linden Court in North Platte.
Mabel was one of three children born to Denniston F. and Edna Alpha Ramsey Gilkeson, and is a descendant of Captain Myles Standish who accompanied the Pilgrims on the Mayflower and helped establish Plymouth Colony. Mabel was born April 2, 1916, at Ashland, NE. The family moved to Wheatland, WY for a while before settling in Sutherland in 1918 where they eventually farmed.
Mabel graduated from Sutherland High School in 1939 then earned her BA in Education from Kearney State Teacher’s College in 1943. She went on to teach Home Economics in Nebraska high schools in Brady, Gothenburg, Guide Rock and Wauneta and even survived a class of 19 boys, which included one student who chewed tobacco.
By 1959 Mabel’s mom was in declining health so she returned to Sutherland to help her brother, Darel, with her care. Mabel then taught Sunday School at the Sutherland United Methodist Church where she was a member.
Along with her parents, Denniston and Edna, Mabel was preceded in death by her sister, Cora Sherman, and brother, Darel Gilkeson.
She is survived by her family and friends which include her nephews, Ron (Cary) Sherman and Roger Sherman, of Missouri; and special friends and caregivers, Hope and Joe Reyes, of Hershey, NE.
Cremation was chosen. Graveside Memorial Service will 10 a.m. Friday in the North Platte Cemetery with Chaplain Gary Smith officiating. Ronald Lee Ham
Ronald Lee Ham, age 54, of North Platte, NE, died Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Great Plains Health in North Platte.
Ron was born July 20, 1961, to Harold Raymond, Sr. and Eleanor Ingrid Haden Ham in Omaha, NE.
He is survived by his brother, Harold, Jr. (Janelle) Ham, of Hastings, NE; and other family and his friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Eleanor; and a sister, Dawn Madison.

William “Bill” R. Keithley
William “Bill” R. Keithley, 79, of North Platte, passed away April 29, 2016, at Great Plains Health. He was born May 3, 1936 at Ogallala, NE to Arthur and Alva (Holmquist) Keithley. Bill graduated from North Platte High School with the class of “54” and later hired out with the Union Pacific Railroad. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958 and returned to North Platte and continued to work for the railroad as an engineer on the third district, retiring after 42 years. On January 21, 1984, he was united in marriage to Donna (Stewart) Shaner at Las Vegas. Bill was a loving and devoted husband. He served on the PTA at Cody School for a number of years and was a member of the U. P. Oldtimers, Eagles, American Legion and the V.F.W. Survivors include his wife, Donna of North Platte; children, Leisa (Donald) Klinge of Colorado Springs, CO, Kristine Schwager of Hershey and Mark Shaner of North Platte; his sister, Kaye Gibbons of North Platte; grandchildren, Cheyenne, Cimarron, Derek, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Savannah, and Cole; five great grandchildren; a niece, Tammy Gibbons; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Daniel Keithley and Gary Shaner; and nephew, Thomas Gibbons. Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Theodore Charles Frederick Huebner
On Friday, April 29, 2016, Theodore Charles Frederick Huebner passed away at the age of 101 at Linden Court in North Platte.
Ted was born September 9, 1914, to Charles Frederick and Gertrude Rosalie Hinck Huebner at Great Bend, ND. The family lived in North Dakota until 1920 when they moved to a farm south of Hershey, NE. Ted attended school at District 26 then graduated from Star High School in 1931 with a class of five students. He farmed with his father until 1935 when he began working at the Farmers Co-op Association in Hershey.
When World War II came along, Ted decided to enlist in the U.S. Navy along with his brother, Gene, in April 1942. They completed boot camp training in San Diego, CA then Ted was assigned to sea duty aboard the heavy cruiser, USS Louisville. On board he assisted in landing operations on many islands in the Pacific. Ted served on the USS Louisville for 40 months until the war was over.
Following his discharge, Ted returned to Hershey and his old job at the Farmers Co-op. By 1951 he decided to go into business with his brother, Ken. They started the Huebner Supply Company in North Platte and sold fertilizers, farm supplies, feed and seed. The business later added lawn and garden then became Huebner’s Nursery Lawn & Garden Center. In 1985 Ted turned over his share of the business to his nephews, Jim, Charles and Paul Huebner, and eventually retired.
On December 31, 1972, Ted was united in marriage to Viola E. Miller in North Platte where they made their home. They had been married for 21 years when Viola passed away in 1994.
Ted’s faith in Jesus was very important to him. He knew that salvation was by faith in Jesus alone, not by works. He was confirmed in the Hershey Trinity Lutheran Church in 1930 then years later transferred to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Platte.
Ted enjoyed hunting, water sports and Big Red Football. He also liked bowling and was the captain of the Huebner Supply Bowling team for thirty years. Ted loved his family and enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews grow up. He was always content with life and loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret (Gene) Myers, of Bountiful, UT; sisters-in-law, Miriam Huebner, of North Platte, Lois Huebner, of Plainview, NE, and Helen Huebner, of Omaha, NE; and many nieces, nephews and other family.
Along with his wife, Viola, Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gertrude; brothers, Eugene, Alfred, Kenneth and Robert; and sister-in-law, Aletha Huebner.
Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Bob Deardoff officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com. Sharlyn Ann Martin
Sharlyn “Sherry” Ann Martin, age 64 of North Platte, passed away at her home on Thursday April 28, 2016.
Sherry was born on October 19, 1951 in Abbott, NE to Elfert and Myrtle (Wing) Meyer. She graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1971. She moved to Kansas City for a short while, working at the bus dept. She returned to North Platte where she worked for Municipal Light and Water. She managed Avis Car Rental for several years, and later went to work at Great Plains Health and also Walmart. On August 12, 1989 she married Wesley J. Martin in Lake Tahoe, NV. The couple made their home in North Platte. Sherry enjoyed NASCAR and stock car races, doing ceramics and country dancing. She loved her dogs, especially Bubba, Bucky and Bayle.
Sherry is survived by her husband Wes of North Plate; 4 stepchildren, Cindy Martin of Texas, Kenny Martin of Ft. Collins, CO, Karl Martin and Candy Stange both of Ft. Worth, TX; 4 siblings Phyllis “Arlynn” (Philip) Webster of North Platte, Lela (Pete) Pyzer of North Platte, Linda Cooper of North Platte, and Rick Meyer of Alliance, NE; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; as well as numerous other family members and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Beufard Gates; an infant brother Lynn Meyer; siblings Freddy Meyer, Mary (Walt) Woodward, Donnie Meyer, Carol Olson, Lorna McCarter; and in-laws Carl and Suzie Martin.

Danny Jo Johnston
Danny Jo Johnston, 63 of Boise, Idaho formerly of North Platte passed away April 22, 2016 at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Boise.
Danny was born September 3, 1952 in North Platte. His parents are Elma Jean Johnston and Bill Dishman. He attended public schools in Gothenburg and North Platte. Danny served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married Sandy and to this union three sons were born.
Danny worked on the railroad and at a cement factory in Idaho. He loved to ride his motorcycle, play chess, spend time with family and friends and volunteer with ill patients. He had a stroke at the early age of 35 and was unable to work after. His faith and his Lord were very important to him.
Survivors include his mother, Elma; sons, Christopher (Crystal) Johnston, and Mark Johnston; three grandchildren; brother, Randy (Linda) Dean; sisters, Jenny (Tony) Beer, Vivian (Lee) Kolb, Conice (Alex) Romero, Jessie (Steve) Seifer, Carolee (Aaron) Martin, Aprilee (Lonnie) Deaver, and Rosemary; and many other family members.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Bill; a son, Mitchell; brother, Billy Jo; grandparents, including special grandfather, Alvin Johnston: and many other relatives.

James Doyle “Dewey” Thomas
James Doyle “Dewey” Thomas, 91, of North Platte, went to be with the Lord on April 27, 2016 at his home. He was born on August 21, 1924 to Harv and Florence (Davies) Thomas in Parks, NE. He grew up in the Stratton area where he was well known by others in the community. He always wanted to be the Sheriff in town. He spent his time riding his bike, playing his guitar and smokin’ cigarettes. He loved Western movies, gospel music and pretty women. He had a way of making women feel beautiful and special. He always complimented the color of their eyes. He moved to North Platte in 2009 and enjoyed participating in the NPOC Senior Group activities. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Merle; and a sister, Pearl. He is survived by his friends at the North Platte Opportunity Center and his special friend, Marilyn Bockus. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2016 at Victory Church of God, 3121 West A Street in North Platte with Pastor Dean Bailey officiating.
