Kenneth Nicholas Brosius, age 97 of Stapleton, NE passed away Saturday April 16, 2016 at Linden Court in North Platte.
Kenneth was born on November 15, 1918 in Stapleton, NE to William and Frances (Christ) Brosius Sr. He graduated from Gandy High School then attended Kearney State. After college he returned home to farm and ranch with his family. On February 24, 1941 he married Ada Irene Merritt and together they spent a lifetime ranching and farming in Lincoln and Logan Counties. Working was his hobby and his passion. He loved to feed cattle and work with his family. He belonged to St. John’s Catholic Church, was a past member of the Co-Op Board, Lincoln County Sherriff’s Posse, and a past School Board member of Whittier School.
Kenneth is survived by 3 children, Kenny (Kerry) Brosius of North Platte, Dennis (Trudy) Brosius of Brownlee, and Bonnie (Gary) Sadi of Valentine; grandchildren Jacque (Jim) Harms of North Platte, Todd (Dawn) Brosius of North Platte, Joe Brosius of North Platte, Bell (Tony) Meyer of Stapleton, Amy (Trevor) Buhler of Ferndale, WA, Ann (Jerry) Bloodhart of Shilo, OH, Tess (Jamie) Simpkins of Loveland, CO, John (Tierney) Brosius of Rock Island, IL, Kami (Mark) Ormesher of Valentine, and Cristen (Gordon) Witte of Crookston; 24 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; brother Bill Brosius of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ada; brothers Bernard, Petey, and Vernon; sisters Mary Brosius and Helen Breen; and great great grandson Sawyer James Ormesher.

Lulu Mae Herrick, age 85 of North Platte, passed away April 13, 2016 at Great Plains Health. She was born on October 30, 1930 at Freedom, NE, south of Stockville, Nebraska to Everett and Minnie (Roberts) Owens. Lulu graduated from Stockville High School with the class of 1949. Later that summer, she was united in marriage to Ted Herrick on August 14, 1949 at McCook, Nebraska. They lived in McCook and moved to North Platte in 1951 where they owned and operated Nebraska Bull Service for many years. Lulu enjoyed sewing and cross-stitch. Survivors include her husband, Ted of North Platte; daughter, Sandy (Ken) Masters of Sherwood, AR; son-in-law, Brent (Robin) Smith of Lincoln; grandchildren, Sarah (Casey) Dishman, Stacy (John) Beck, Sally (Kenton) Young, David (Susie) Smith, Kristin (Paul) Mayo and Nikki Smith; great grandchildren, MaKenna, Carter, Morgan, Rylee, Mason, Everett, Sylvia, Graham, Roland, Sarah, Ryleigh, Allyson, Ryan, Tyler, Hailey; numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives. Lulu was preceded in death by her parents; brother, LaVerne Owens; sister, Jackie Ellis and daughter, Linda Smith. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor David Logsdon officiating. Burial will be at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Eleanor Loraine Shill

Eleanor Loraine Shill, age 89, of North Platte, NE, died Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at the North Platte Care Center.

Eleanor was born in North Platte on October 19, 1926, to Joseph Louis and Ethel May Thompson DeTour. She grew up in Nebraska where she lived and attended school in the Echo District and Wellfleet then graduated from North Platte High School in 1945. Following graduation, Eleanor returned to Wellfleet and worked for her dad at the Lakeside Inn.

On June 23, 1949, Eleanor was united in marriage to Charles James Shill at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Platte. They lived in Wellfleet where Eleanor continued to work for her dad and later Ted Glaze at the Wellfleet Grocery until the fall of 1954 when the family moved to North Platte. In 1960 Eleanor was employed by Montgomery Wards as a clerk and later in receiving. She continued with the company until they closed in 1980 then worked at various places until 1987 when she started helping at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Eleanor continued working until her health began to decline.

She was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, L.W.M.L., American Legion Post #163 Auxiliary and was a past charter member of Rebecca Lodge #441 at Wellfleet. Eleanor loved to crochet and embroider and enjoyed her ladies aqua swim class at the Rec Center.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlene (Richard) Schneider, of North Platte; two grandchildren, Craig Schneider, of Fort Collins, CO, and Carrie (Craig) Miller, of Gretna, NE; 3 great-grandchildren, Elliott Schneider and Easton and Emersyn Miller; and several nieces, nephews and other family.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents, Joseph and Ethel DeTour; sister, Eloise and husbands, Dalton Knox and William Look; brother, Harold and wife, Letha DeTour; and nephew, Richard DeTour.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Bob Deardorff officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Lawrence “Larry” H. Pierce

Lawrence “Larry” H. Pierce, age 75 of Sutherland, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Cozad.
Larry was born April 10, 1941 in Ogallala. He was adopted in December 1945 by Jess and Nellie (German) Pierce of Ogallala. He attended high school in Pine Bluffs, WY and finished his education in North Platte. On May 10, 1962 he married Judith “Judy” Elaine Logan in Kimball, NE. The first 14 years of their marriage he worked mostly on ranches, then in 1976 he went to work for Nebraska Public Power District where he retired in 2006 after 30 years of faithful service. Larry loved his family very much and enjoyed teaching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to fish and hunt.
Larry’s survivors include his wife Judy of Sutherland; son, Patrick (Joyce) Pierce of North Platte; grandson Matthew (Tonya) Pierce of North Platte; great grandchildren Tyson and Brooklynn; granddaughter, Lyndsay (John) Jolliffe of North Platte; great grandchildren Braylee and Bentley; daughter Kimberley (Randy) Musser of Tryon; granddaughter Danyalle (Josh) Salisbury of North Platte; great grandchildren Gage and Presli; granddaughter Jacinda Perez of North Platte; great grandchildren Jasiah and Jase; granddaughter Brandy (Corey) Farley of Whitelake, SD; great grandchildren Akane, Ian, Ethan, Aden, Orion; grandson Donald (Catrina) Musser of Hershey; granddaughter Sara (McKinley) Musser-Williams of New Castle, WY; great granddaughter Audrey; grandson Jonathan (Julie) Musser of Hershey; granddaughters Emily and Tara Musser both of Tryon; daughter Cynthia Wilkening of North Platte; granddaughter Chandra (Danny Hartman) Wilkening of North Platte; granddaughter, Lois (Sam) Okyere of Sacramento, CA; great grandsons Braxton and Wesley; daughter Shawna Welsh of North Platte; granddaughter Kandyce Walters of North Platte; great grandsons Jacoby and Fabian; grandson Joseph Walters of North Platte; granddaughter Allison (Michael) Steele of North Platte; great grandchildren Deondray and Kahne; grandson Levi Welsh of Sutherland; granddaughter Shaunee (Joe Mortonson) Welsh of North Platte.

Marseleen A. Wilkinson, age 85 of North Platte, passed away Tuesday April 12, 2016 at Great Plains Health.
Marseleen was born on July 31, 1930 in Max, NE to Clyde and Irene (Clabaugh) Pursley. She graduated from Benkelman High School. She married Leon Wilkinson on September 11, 1948. She was a 4-H Leader for many years and a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, where she served several years as president. She was also a rural school teacher for a few years and worked several years at the Stratton Hospital. Marseleen will be greatly missed. “Hugs & Kisses”.
Marseleen is survived by her son Robert (Lynda) Wilkinson of North Platte; daughter Candy (Larry) Reichert of Warrensburg, MO; grandchildren Heath (Pam) Reichert of Warrensburg, MO, Lori (Pat) Alvarez of Bellevue, NE, and Leslie Wilkinson of Omaha, NE; great grandchildren MacKenzie (Chris) Anderson, Sydnee (Gabriel) Penaherrera and Yizrael Alvarez of Bellevue, NE; great great grandchildren Rawlins of Bellevue, NE and Gabriel, Jr., of Omaha, NE; sisters Mary Emma Maris and Evelyn Rowley; brother John Pursley; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.

Karen S. Blunt, 56, of North Platte, passed away April 10, 2016 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. She was born Dec. 13, 1959 to Garrell “Red” and Frances (May) Howell at McCook, NE. Karen graduated from McCook High School with the class of “78”. On August 16, 1986, she was united in marriage to Douglas Blunt in McCook where they lived before moving to North Platte in 1993. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. Karen loved making tie blankets for special occasions for friends and family. She headed many fundraisers for the Nebraska Kidney Foundation. She is survived by her husband, Douglas of North Platte; four daughters, Amanda (Tim) Murray of Bellevue, NE, Shannon Hudson of North Platte, Kelly (Dave) Stephen and Kimberly Blunt both of Hill City, KS; 11 grandchildren, Katelyn, Alise, Dalton, Drake, Jacob, Creighton, Carter, Olivia, Casey, Dayton and Addison; two great grandsons, Brody and Sylas; brothers, Kenny (Tammy) Howell and Tom Howell both of Grand Island, Bill (Kim) Howell of Hickman and Pat (Janice) Howell of Cambridge; many nieces and nephews and other relatives. Irene (Carrizales) Sundstrom

Irene Sundstrom, age 66 of North Platte, passed away Thursday April 7, 2016 at Bryan Hospital in Lincoln, NE. Irene was born on April 27, 1949 in North Platte, NE to Julio and Anita (Ponce) Carrizales. She grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School in 1968. She worked various jobs but her main job was Tuffware for many years, where she was a supervisor. She married Alan Sundstrom, and he preceded her in death November 26, 2002. She was a very active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She loved her pets, attending plays at the Fox Theatre, riding her bike, reading and was an avid Elvis collector and fan. She enjoyed children, especially her nieces and nephews. Irene will be remembered as a very kindhearted person. Irene is survived by her father Julio Carrizales of Cozad, NE; siblings Andrea Cardenas of Kearney, NE, and Julian Carrizales of North Platte; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Anita Carrizales; husband Alan; sister Amelia Cardenas; brothers Manuel, John, Michael and infant brother Frank; niece Jennifer Ramirez; and great niece Jasmine Cardenas. Joyce Irene Engle

joyce-engleJoyce Irene Engle, 80, of North Platte stepped into the Loving Arms of her Savior April 8, 2016 after a short battle with lung cancer.

Joyce was born in Hershey, NE on September 28, 1935 to Clifford and Ester (Lindakugel) Founds.   The family moved to the Sandhills where she attended school.  Joyce married Don Miller; to this union they had a daughter who was the light of Joyce’s life.  Don and Joyce decided to part ways, but always remained friends.  She met and married Bill Hagans, Bill died in 1979.  Joyce later met the one true love of her life, John Engle.  The two were united in marriage in 1981 when Joyce became the mother to John’s two children.

Joyce loved her family and friends, especially her grand and great-grandkids.  She loved to fish and camp and looked forward to the annual family reunion that took place every June for the past 33 years.  Joyce enjoyed bowling, gambling, country western music, loved to dance and loved the Huskers!  She was a member of the Eagles, VFW, the Moose, and the Elks.  Joyce was in charge of the VFW annual Easter Egg Hunt where she loved helping the kids dye up to 12, 000 eggs!

Joyce leaves behind her husband of 34 years, John of North Platte; daughter, Linda (Jerry) Gibson of Sutherland; step-children, Mark Engle of Texas, and Juana Engle of North Platte; grandchildren, Heather (Cody) Rupe of North Platte, Savanna (Chris) Hollibaugh of Wallace, Rae Ann (Rudy) Perdomo, Shania Gibson and Derek Gibson all of Sutherland; and Megan Engle of Texas; great-grandchildren, Amelia Rupe, “Little” Bill McCoy, Hunter McCoy, and Carsten Gibson; brother, William (Bonnie) Founds of Arvada, CO; sisters, Marge Cochran of North Platte, and Evelyn Favinger of Thorton, CO; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Founds; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Cochran.
