Ferrissa Mae Malcom Phipps

Ferrissa Mae Malcom Phipps passed from this life March 28, 2016, at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Mullen.
She was born on Aug. 18, 1927, in Gardiner, New York, to Ferris and Ethel Palmer Malcolm.
She graduated from high school in Montgomery, New York, in 1947.
At age 7, she traveled to the Sandhills of Nebraska to visit her great aunt, Ferrissa Morrow. While there, she met her future husband, Leonard Phipps. They were able to see each other several other times over the years when she would make the train trip out to visit relatives before being married on June 8, 1949, on her parents’ farm in New York.
Ferrissa loved her cats and living in the Sandhills with her cowboy and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She fed countless people over the years from hay crews to cowboys to cattle buyers. No one ever went away hungry and they all remembered her quiet but capable nature.
Ferrissa was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, and parents, Ethel and Ferris Malcom.
She is survived by her sons, Wayne (Fran) Phipps, of Berthoud, Colorado, and Gary (Glenda) Phipps, of Whitman; daughter, Lois (Jim) Hardy, of Mullen; brother-in-law, Doug (Alice) Phipps, of Mullen; grandchildren, Elissa Hardy, of Denver, Crystal (Wynn) Wiens and their children, Justin and Adam, of Mullen, Rob Hardy of Gothenburg, Heather (Erick) Johnson and their children, Makenna and Madisyn of North Platte, Brett (Jordyn) and their children Kaisley, Kendall and Grady, of Whitman, and Wade (Jamie) Phipps and their daughter Harper, of Whitman; and many other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. MT on Saturday, April 2, at the United Methodist Church in Mullen. A time of fellowship will follow at the church with burial at 3:30 p.m. MT at the Whitman Cemetery. Mullen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Carrie Leona Bannister

Carrie Leona Bannister, age 90, of North Platte, formerly of Hershey, NE, went to her eternal home on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Centennial Park Retirement Center in North Platte.

Carrie was born October 21, 1925, to Henry William and Rosa (Lubes) Steinke at Loup City, NE. She grew up around Carroll, NE and attended country school then started high school in Clarks, NE. The family later moved to Central City, NE where Carrie finished school, graduating with the Class of 1943, and worked at Wilders Cafe.

On September 22, 1944, Carrie married Robert Bannister in Omaha, NE, and to this union their son, Terry, and daughter, Gracia, were born. Carrie and Robert farmed near Central City before moving to Gibbon, NE in May of 1960. Then in 1967 they settled in Hershey where Carrie worked in the lunch program at Hershey School. She was also a member of the Hershey United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for many years. Carrie enjoyed volunteering for the Red Cross and Home Health.

Carrie loved her family and having family dinners but her greatest joy was her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting, camping and tending to her flower garden. Carrie and Robert were members of the Lake Maloney Ski Club for many years and enjoyed their trips in the mobile home to Yuma, AZ for 10 years. In 1998 they were named Grand Marshals of the Hershey Fall Festival. In the Fall of 2005, they moved to North Platte then to Centennial Park Retirement Home in August 2013. Carrie and Robert had celebrated nearly 72 years of marriage together.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert, and their children, Terry (Barbara) Bannister and Gracia (Larry) Kennedy, all of North Platte; grandchildren, Misty (Todd) Armstrong and Marcy Kennedy, of Omaha, and Micah (Danielle) Kennedy, stationed in Petaluma, CA with the U.S. Coast Guard; great-grandchildren, Tristan Armstrong, Kiptyn Kennedy, Lilli Hamilton and Adalynn Kennedy; a sister, Genivie Harris, of Central City; sister-in-law, Arlene Steinke, of Oklahoma; and many nieces, nephews and other family.

Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Rosa Steinke; five sisters, Lillie Perce, Marie Perce, Deloris Gustafson and Dorothy and Alice Steinke; two infant brothers; three brothers, Walter and wife, Bernice, Emil and wife, Donna, and George Steinke; and brother-in-law, Mike Harris.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, at the Hershey United Methodist Church with Pastor Kola officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery. Edward ‘Ed’ Pacheco

Edward ‘Ed’ Pacheco, age 73, of North Platte, NE, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE.

Ed was born August 24, 1942, to Florencio ‘Floyd’ and Elizabeth ‘Bessie’ (Mares) Pacheco in Longmont, CO. He grew up and attended school in North Platte. On September 15, 1962, Ed married Frances ‘Fran’ Bunger in Holyoke, CO and made their home in North Platte.

Ed was a self-taught carpenter and a perfectionist, never doing less than his very best. At 19 he began his career in construction working for Leonard Cross then for his friend, Gary Tatman.

In 1969 he started his own construction company and later went to work for Mid-Plains Community College until he retired.

Ed was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed all sports, but was great at softball, bowling and golf. He loved teaching his grandchildren how to golf, spending many hours with them on the golf course. Ed was also his grandkids biggest fan, attending all of their sporting events. Eddie will long be remembered for his contagious laugh and a smile that would light up any room. His love of children made him a family favorite with his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends. It is hard to imagine a world without him in it.

Ed was preceded in death by his son, Charles; mother, Bessie; in-laws, John and Ruth Bunger; brothers-in-law, Jack and Gary Bunger; sister-in-law, Betty (Bunger) Ohlund; and beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Fran, and father, Floyd; children, Pamela, of Denver, Michael (Angie), of Kearney, and Cathy (Bernie) Madison, Cindy, and Mitch Pacheco (Katie Allen and daughter, Emilee), all of North Platte; grandchildren, Brandon (Raeleigh), Anthony, Eric and Madison Pacheco, Austin and Conner Matthews and Michaela Madison; special step-grandchild, Tosha Reich, and her son, Hayden; three great-grandchildren, Charleigh, Blakely and Alexis Pacheco; sisters, Pearl (Rex) Seal and Sandy (Gary) Steinbeck; brothers, Art and Richard Pacheco; brother-in-law, Charles Bunger; sisters-in-law, Jeanne (Gregg) Harshbarger and Mary Ann and Sharrell Bunger; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other family.

Christian Wake Service will be 7 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2016, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Celebrant Father Jim Golka. The casket will be closed at the church.

Billy Dean Wiggers, Sr., age 81 formerly of North Platte, left to join our Savior on Thursday March 24, 2016 at Sutherland Care Center.
Billy was born on April 2, 1934 in St. Joseph, MO to August J. “Willie” and Vesta Meryl (Andersen) Wiggers. He graduated high school in Marysville, KS. He then became a First Class Airman in the Air Force, and was in the Army Reserve. After his service, he worked for 39 years as a clerk at the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1996.
Bill is survived by his wife Marilyn Wiggers of North Platte; son Billy Dean (Collen) Wiggers of North Platte; step-son Tim (Debra) Elson of Venango, NE; grandson Zane Wiggers of South Dakota; and great granddaughter Madison of South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and granddaughters Casey and Victoria.

Everett “Dwight” Rosso

Everett “Dwight” Rosso, age 80 of North Platte, passed away Thursday March 24, 2016 at Great Plains Health.
Dwight was born on July 3, 1935 in Bartlett in Wheeler County in Nebraska to Everett Ernst and Helen Rose (Sturek) Rosso. He grew up in the area and attended Wheeler Central High School where he played a lot of sports and graduated in 1954. He moved to Grand Island in 1959 where he met and married Evelyn June Dybdahl on May 19, 1962. They were later sealed in the Denver Temple. The couple lived in Grand Island for 17 years before moving to North Platte in 1978. He worked for a few years for Missouri Valley Construction and Cornhusker Ordnance Plant with his father and brother before going to work for the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in 2002. Dwight had a lot of pastimes including fishing, puzzles, and collecting stamps. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a member of the Buffalo Bill Stamp Club. He loved sports of all kinds, especially the Chicago Cubs baseball team and the NE Cornhuskers. He loved spending time with family and friends and his most favorite thing was attending his grandkids band and choir concerts, musicals and any other award ceremonies they were involved in.
Everett is survived by his daughters Dorothy (Mike) Hiserote, Helen Rosso, and Karen (Michael) Hall all of North Platte; grandchildren Lcpl. Zachary Hiserote, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Brandon Hiserote of North Platte, and Tiffany and Zoey Hall of North Platte; siblings Robert (LaVonne) Rosso of Grand Island, Beverly Kennedy of Bartlett, Yvonne (Ronald) Field of Papillion and Ann (Ken) Kasselder of Ericson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn in 2011; parents Everett and Helen Rosso; infant sister Rita Rose Rosso; and brother-in-law Bill Kennedy.

Darrell Eugene Pueppka

Darrell Eugene Pueppka, age 85, of North Platte, NE, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 23, 2016.

Darrell was born April 24, 1930, to Arthur J. and Erma Linda Hoefer Pueppka at Sutherland, NE. He grew up on a farm and graduated from District #56 grade school then attended Sutherland High School for three years before graduating from St. Patrick’s Catholic School in North Platte in 1948.

Darrell later enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving until January 1950. He returned to North Platte after his discharge and hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad, working as a Switchman. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War and served 15 months in Korea on a hospital ship, the U.S.S. Repose, as a corps man.

After his release from duty in 1952, Darrell went back to his job with the railroad and worked there until retiring in 1992 as a Brakeman. Darrell was also a partner in the Griffin Beatty Lumberyard in Sutherland and had a Nebraska real estate license for 20 years.

On May 17, 1954, Darrell was united in marriage to Rosemary Greenwood at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte where they lived and raised three children, Steve, Sharee and Larry. Darrell and Rosemary celebrated over 58 years of marriage when she passed away in 2012.

Darrell was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and P.R. Halligan Post #163 American Legion. He also served on the North Platte Library Advisory Board and Cable Board for many years.

In 2014 Darrell was an honored guest on the Korean War Honor Flight which allowed him and fellow veterans to visit Arlington National Cemetery and all the war memorials in Washington, D.C.

Darrell leaves behind his children, Steve and Larry Pueppka, of North Platte, and Sharee Pueppka, of Omaha, NE; his brother, Rod Pueppka, of North Platte; and several nieces, nephews and other family.

Along with his wife, Rosemary, Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Erma; sister, Beverly and her husband, Robert Weaver; brother Kenneth and his wife, Peggy Pueppka; sister-in-law, Carol Pueppka; in-laws, Leo and Veda Greenwood; and brother-in-law, Jim Greenwood.

Christian Wake Service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Celebrant Father Jim Golka. Burial with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.

Wanda (Geri) Satchell

She was born February 26th, 1931 in Maywood Nebraska to Ora and Zona Mullen.  She married Ray Satchell on September 10, 1948.  Her life was filled with family, friends, quilting, gardening and canning.  Survivors include her husband Ray, brother Robert Mullen, sister Charlene O’Shell, daughters Lynda (Larry) Sydow, Dotty (John) Erickson, Beth (David) Schneider and Diane Contratto; son Michael (LuAnn) Satchell, fourteen grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and four

Survivors include her husband Ray, brother Robert Mullen, sister Charlene O’Shell, daughters Lynda (Larry) Sydow, Dotty (John) Erickson, Beth (David) Schneider and Diane Contratto; son Michael (LuAnn) Satchell, fourteen grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many special family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, son Duane, and brother Kenneth.

Geri donated organs through Donor Alliance.  She will be cremated and services will be at a later date.

Fern V. Fulk

Fern V. Fulk, 95, of Wallace, went to her heavenly home on March 22, 2016 at Linden Court with her family at her side. She was born on September 3, 1920, on the farm southeast of Dickens, NE, to William and Myrtle (Tanner) Boyes. She attended country school and graduated with honors from Dickens High School in 1938.
On October 21, 1941 she was united in marriage to Raymond Fulk in Sterling, CO. She and Raymond began their life on the family farm that Raymond’s father homesteaded in 1886. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Rebekah Lodge, and the Wallace American Legion Auxiliary. She was known for her excellent cooking, and extremely clean home. Her delicious pies were enjoyed at many family gatherings in the house that Fern lived in for 61 years. Fern cherished the fact that her great-grandchildren were so close and she could be a part of their everyday life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Myrtle Boyes; her husband, Raymond of 43 years; eight sisters, Delma, Laura, Lola, Irene, Leona, Lula, Nell, and an infant sister, Dora; two brothers, Ernest and William Jr.; and one great-granddaughter, Kristen Repass.
Those left to cherish her memory are children, Bruce (Mary Ann) Fulk of Wallace, and Rita (Ron) Repass of McCook; grandchildren, Stacy (Ryan) Kuhlman of Wallace, Brenda Christensen and friend Henry of North Platte, Scott (Margret) Repass of McCook, and Kyle (Jeanna) Repass of Overland Park, KS; great-grandchildren, Tyler Chirstensen, Dylan and Skyler Kuhlman, Adam, Ariel, and Christian Repass; nephew, George (Jan) Campbell of North Platte; niece, Karen Preston of Enid, OK; and extended family and friends.

Elaine L. Kockrow

Elaine L. Kockrow, 80, of North Platte, passed away March 21, 2016 at her home. She was born July 5, 1935, to Charles and Marjorie (Swanson) Oden at Chariton, Iowa. She graduated from Chariton High School and received a scholarship to Broadlawns Memorial Hospital to study nursing in Des Moines, IA. Upon graduation Elaine then moved to North Platte and was employed at the Memorial Hospital. On Dec. 21, 1958, she was united in marriage to Donald R. Kockrow. She continued her nursing career and went on to Mid Plains Vocational College as a nursing instructor for over 30 years. She authored six editions of Fundaments of Nursing and Adult Health Nursing, a nursing text book with Barbara Christiansen. She enjoyed traveling and shopping and especially loved spending time with her family. She was a member of Bethel Church. Elaine is survived by her twin daughters, Annie (Philip) Pearson of Florida and Amy (Jack) Pompei of Ohio; her son, D. Bradley Kockrow of Colorado; two grandsons, Jonathan and Caleb; two sisters, Phyllis (Bill) Spaur of Washington and Sharon Dunning of Kansas; nieces, including Ruth Greenlee; nephews and a host of friends and former students. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2006; a brother, Dean and a sister, Barbara. Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com.
