Mary E. Vieyra Gomez

Mary E, Gomez, age 103, of North Platte, died March 19, 2016 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. She was born on February 11, 1913 in Silao, GTO, Mexico to Victor and Florentina Therersa (Hernandez) Ybarra.
On August 23, 1931 she was united in marriage to Manuel Vieyra in Medford, OK. To this union 12 children were born.
Mary married Guadalupe Gomez on May 20, 1973 in Hugoton, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1983. Mary was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and the VFW. She enjoyed traveling and fishing. Mary loved music and flowers and was a recipient of the “Yard of the Week”. She was a devoted woman who embraced prayer, who had a wonderful sense of humor that loved people and her family.
Survivors include her sons, Roy Vieyra, George Vieyra, Pat (Chris) Vieyra, and Roberto (Mary) Vieyra, all of North Platte; daughters, Juanita Garvin, Delores (Jesse) Lira, Helen (Alex) Sanchez, Anita Sanchez, Gina (Reuben) Rangel, all of North Platte, Irene Lopez of Lexington, Theresa (Don) Boese of Overland Park, KS, and Nellie (Len) Tominaga of Downey, CA; 2 brothers, Paul and Jesse Ybarra; over 100 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Frankie Vieyra; best friends, Judy and Leo Dailey of Tryon; and numerous other family members and many friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister Mercedes Cornejo; brothers, John, Joe, Pete, Galdino, Benny, and Frank; grandchildren, Rita Vieyra, Marty Perez, and Jonathon McCart Peterson.

J. Bruce Hoye

J. Bruce Hoye, age 75, of North Platte, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at his home. He was born February 21, 1941 in Grand Island, NE to J. Gerald and Ila (Burmood) Hoye. Bruce received his Masters in Art and Administration at Kearney State and Undergraduate at Hastings College. On October 30, 1965 he was united in marriage to Charlene Dudek of Fullerton, NE. He was employed by the North Platte Public Schools as an art teacher for 29 years. Bruce was a member of the Presbyterian Church, USA, Platte Valley Lodge #32 A.F. & A.M., Tehama Temple of the Shrine, NRA, Trapshooting, and Skeet Shooting Association, Platte River Sportsmen’s Club, Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout and Silver Beaver, and received a Manitoba Canada Master Angler Released Award and North America. Survivors include his wife; Charlene of North Platte, children; Sharese (James) Wallace, Kaitlyn and Ashley of Columbus, OH, Greg (Tracy) Hoye, Ava, Justine, Carmen and Calvin of Omaha, and Kurt Hoye Jessica and Abigail of Sidney, NE and a cousin; Jenise Harper of Southern CA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the Presbyterian Church in North Platte with Pastor Lyle Anderson officiating, with Masonic rites by Platte Valley Lodge No. 32 A.F. & A. Lucille P. Ritz

Lucille P. Ritz, age 95 of North Platte, passed away March 16, 2016 at Great Plains Health with her son by her side. She was born March 28, 1920 at Edison, NE to Harvey and Lena (Bard) Stump. On July 11, 1941 Lucille was united in marriage to Earl Ritz at Norton, KS. She worked at the Lincoln County Treasurer’s Department of Motor Vehicles for 28 years. She was a member of the 1st Christian Church and Order of the Eastern Star. Lucille loved to travel and playing cards with her friends. She is survived by her son, Jeff (Dotty) Ritz of Omaha; four step-grandchildren, Julie (Shawn) Clark, Tina (Mike) Gillain, Sherry (Ryan) Cable, and Lowell (Jasmine) Heller; and seven step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; daughter, Jeri Lynn; two brothers, Floyd and Allen Stump; a sister, Wilma Keller; and special friend, Ed Purcell. Graveside services will be 1:00 pm Monday, March 21, 2016 at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family receiving friends will be from 10am to noon on Monday. Connie Sue (Armstrong) Bohnas

Connie Sue (Armstrong) Bohnas, age 55 of North Platte, passed away Wednesday March 16, 2016 at Great Plains Health.
Connie was born on August 1, 1960 at St. Mary’s Hospital in North Platte to Clark and Katherine (Dailey) Armstrong. She grew up in Arizona and graduated from Snow Flake High School with the class of 1978. After high school she attended college and graduated from Northland Pioneer College in Belly Button, AZ. She married Arlen Bohnas on May 17, 1985 in Arizona. The couple lived in Arizona and Oregon before moving to Nebraska in 2015. She enjoyed family genealogy and making porcelain dolls from scratch including their clothing and painting them. She took on an active role in caring for her son Jeremy after a motorcycle accident. Connie will be remembered as a big hearted ray of sunshine to her family.
Connie is survived by her loving husband Arlen, and children Jeremy and Trisha all of North Platte; step children Arlen Jr. and Crista Ray of WA; brother Clayton (Goldie) Armstrong of Springerville, AZ; 15 grandchildren; aunts Virginia (Armstrong) Fay and Ester Webster of North Platte; uncles Earl (Ila) Dailey, Don (Beverly) Dailey of Arnold, NE, Raymond (Sharon) Armstrong of Gothenburg; as well as many cousins and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clark and Katherine Armstrong; brother Clark Marvin Armstrong; sister Carol Lou Armstrong; and grandparents Harold and Maxine Armstrong, and Clayton and Mabel Dailey.

Michael J. Schultz

Michael J. Schultz, 45, of North Platte, passed away March 14, 2016 at his home. He is survived by his mother, Diane Schultz of Payson, AZ; a son, Urijah Schultz; a brother, Marc Schultz; two sisters, Ronda Schultz and Carma Haston; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces. Ronald “Ronnie” W. Kubiak

Ronald “Ronnie” W. Kubiak, 50, of Sutherland passed away as the result of an accident. He was born October 2, 1965 to Gerald and Juanita (Albert) Kubiak at St. Louis, MO. He graduated from Paxton High School. Ronnie was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved to fish. He is survived by his mother, Juanita of Cozad; siblings, Richard (Kaylee) Smith of Sioux City, Iowa, Greg Smith of Ft. Collins, Joe (Debbie) Smith of Lincoln and Gary (Teresa) Gallaher of North Platte; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father; his step-father, Robert Finch; two brothers, Michael Smith and Charles Gallaher; and a sister-in-law, Lori Smith. Cremation was chosen. Alice I. Keime

On Saturday, March 12, 2016, Alice I. Keime, passed away at the age of 102, at her daughter’s home in Broomfield, CO. Alice was a longtime resident of North Platte but in recent years was living in Colorado with her daughter.

Alice was born October 5, 1913, to Will Ray and Rose Agnes Farrell Stegeman at Aurora, NE. She grew up in Chappell, NE and graduated from Chappell High School in 1931. Alice attended Kearney State Teacher’s College to earn her Teaching Certificate then taught for 10 years in Nebraska, teaching in the counties of Duel, Garden and Cheyenne.

On May 19, 1941, Alice was united in marriage to James Parkeson ‘Parkie’ Keime at St. Francis, KS and made their home on a farm south of Ovid, CO. In 1947 they moved to Maxwell, NE where Parkie farmed until 1954. The family later moved to North Platte and were members of the First Baptist Church. Alice worked as a seamstress at Schwesers for 32 years from 1954 to 1986.

Alice and James were married for over 55 years when he passed away in 1996. Alice then moved to Hastings, NE, in 1998 to be near her daughter, Marilyn; in 2004 she moved to Lincoln, NE, to live with her daughter, Barbara; and in 2011 she moved to Colorado to live with her daughter, Jane.

She loved to work in her yard and care for her flowers. Alice was a die-heart Nebraska Cornhusker fan all her life and loved to cheer for the Denver Broncos. She never thought she would live to be 100 but Alice did better than that when she set the family record for being the oldest living member at the age of 102 years, 5 months and 7 days. Over the years she was thankful for her good health and mind as well as her loving family and her many friends.

Alice is survived by her children, James (Bev) Keime, of Parker, CO, Jane (Ambrose) Trujillo, of Broomfield, CO, Marilyn (Denny) Bruntz, of Hastings, NE, and Barbara Kavan, of Lincoln, NE; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; seven great great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob Stegeman, of Sidney, NE; and other family.

Along with her husband, Parkie, Alice was preceded in death by their infant son, Jerrold Ray; great-grandson, Brady Kraft; son-in-law, Larry Kavan; parents, Will and Rose Stegeman; a sister, Mabel Brake; and brother, Bill Stegeman.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Burial will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com. Alvera M. Cline

Alvera M. Cline passed away on March 7th, 2016, with her family at her side. She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on August 28th, 1925, to Henry and Katie Alpers. She married Roy C. Cline on July 10th, 1953 in Winnipeg.
During her married life she followed he husband Roy with MK Construction Company all over the U.S. and the world.
She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie M. Stotland (Duane) of Boise, Idaho, and Charlene G. Anderson (Norm) of Greeley, Colorado. She is survived by a son, Rondell R. Cline (Ann Marie) of Placentia Bay, Newfoundland, Canada. She is survived by seven grandchildren: Ryan M. Stotland (Natalia), Zach M. Stotland, Jacob I. Anderson, Hilary J. Clement (Josh), Ronnie Cline, Crystal Cline, and Susan McClure. She is survived by three great-grandchildren: Dakota Clement, Ethan Cline and Brittnee McClure-Cyphers. She is survived by one sister, Linda Rohrig.
Alvera is preceded in death by her husband Roy C. Cline, brothers Harvey and Burt Alpers, daughter Margaret Thompson (Harry) of Rapid City, North Dakota, and parents Henry and Katie Alpers.
Vera received her American citizenship in November of 1957, in North Platte, Nebraska. She attended Calvary Baptist Church in North Platte and Riverside Chapel at Salmon Creek in Boise, Idaho. She was very active in the Alzheimer’s Society in North Platte and also volunteered over a nineteen year period at the Great Plains Hospital in North Platte, Nebraska. Vera loved crafts and made many beautiful things with her knitting, sewing and crochet.
Burial will be at the North Platte, Nebraska Cemetery. At Vera’s request, there will be a gravesite service on Thursday March 24 at 2 pm. Help us celebrate Vera’s amazing 90 years.
No flowers please. Memorial gifts can be made in her name to your local Alzheimer’s Association.

June Marie (Andrews) Evans

June Marie (Andrews) Evans 91 passed away March 10, at Pioneer Memorial Rest Home.

June was born June 8, 1924 to Lucian and Vera Andrews in Mullen, NE where she grew up and graduated with the class of 1941. She was united in marriage to Charles (Tex) Evans on April 8, 1944. June worked in the cafeteria at the Mullen School, traveled and worked with Tex on road construction until he retired in 1981.

They made Mullen their home. In 2009 they entered the Pioneer Memorial Rest Home.
June is preceded in death by her parents, husband and son Jim, sisters Esther, Betty, Eula, brother Garland, and grandson Brian. She is survived by two sons, Daniel (Linda) of North Platte, Russell (Iryna) of Denver, CO, seven grandchildren: Desiree (Mike) Faulker, Wendy (Chris) Hutley, Joe (Brooke) Rivera, Brad (Tracie) Evans, Travis (Beth) Evans, Amanda Hester, and Tammie (Mike) Lansford, sixteen great grandchildren, sister Norma Pearson and many other relatives.

Memorials may be given to American Legion Auxiliary Post #109, PO Box 586, Mullen, NE.

Visitation will be 4-6 pm MDT Thursday, March 17 at the Mullen Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Friday at 11 am CDT March 18 at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.

Charles ‘Chart’ F. Nicholson

Charles ‘Chart’ F. Nicholson, age 89, of Tryon, passed away Friday, March 11th at his home. He was born October 7, 1926 in Sutherland to Arthur and Alma (Arensdorf) Nicholson. He grew up in the Southwest corner of McPherson County. At a young age he went to work on a harvesting crew. In 1945, he entered the U.S. Army, serving in Japan as an M.P. After his discharge from the Army he returned home where he farmed and ranched. On March 4, 1950 he married Wilma Neal in Stapleton. The couple continued ranching then moved to Oregon. They later returned to Nebraska and ran a café in Sutherland. Chart was a jack of all trades. He trucked, did some carpentry, worked as a janitor at the high school, and was an excellent craftsman. In 1969 he went to work for the UPRR in the signal department. He retired from the railroad on January 1, 1990. He then bought the Longhorn Motel in Tryon and ran that for many years. Chart and Wilma enjoyed their retirement, traveling all over the country and seeing every state except Hawaii. He was a member of the Tryon United Methodist Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and his family was the center of his life, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include four daughters, Sandra Black of Tryon, Shareen (Stanley) Munson of Tryon, DeAnna (Bill) Kramer of North Platte, and Brenda (Jess) Cochran of Tryon; a sister, Ruth McNeal of Fort Collins, CO.; a brother, Don Nicholson of North Platte; a sister-in-law, Wilma Neal of North Platte; 12 grandchildren, Tylene (Gale) Garner of Tryon, Toby (Julie) Black of Morrill, Tammy (Kevin) May of Brady, Todd (Chris) Black of Moreno, CO., Bill (Lori) Munson of North Platte, Jason (Mikki) Munson of Cheyenne, WY., Jody (Megan) Munson of Tuscon, AZ, Darrin (Angie) Arthur, Phil (Laura) Masters of North Platte, Angela (Donald) McDermott of North Platte, Joseph (Emily) Cochran of Sioux Falls, SD., and Benjamin (Bailey) Cochran of Tryon; 30 great grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; many other family member and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Wilma; a son, Dick; great granddaughter, Emmalee Garner; siblings Myrtle Miller and Robert Nicholson.
