Mary Berneice Farmer

Mary Berneice Farmer, age 93, of North Platte, NE, died Friday, February 19, 2016, at Linden Court in North Platte.

Mary was born August 3, 1922, at Anselmo, NE, the first of eight children, to James William and Ellen ‘Nellie’ Cecilia Coan Powers. She grew up and attended school in Anselmo then graduated from Milburn High School in 1941 with her brother, Bill.

Mary later moved to Lingle, WY to work for her aunt and uncle. While in Wyoming Mary met Eldon Cooper ‘Pappy’ Farmer and they were united in marriage on April 8, 1944, at Grant, NE. They lived in Grant, Broken Bow, NE, then returned to Grant where Mary worked at a bakery and helped cook for the harvesters. She also helped at the North Platte Canteen during W.W.II.

In 1953 Mary and Pappy moved to Ogallala, NE. Mary was employed by Goodall Electric and worked as a line supervisor until 1961 when they moved to North Platte. Mary then worked for W.T. Grants and Woolworth’s. She also worked in the Housekeeping Department at Great Plains Regional Medical Center and Linden Manor until she retired. Mary was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and in 2010 she moved to Linden Court.

Survivors include her two sons, Adelbert ‘Tuck’ (Joan) Farmer, of Stapleton, NE, and Gary (June) Farmer, of North Platte; three grandchildren, Theresa Farmer, of Tryon, NE, Letitia ‘Tish’ (Craig) Dailey, of North Platte and Chad (Heather) Farmer, of Stapleton; two great-grandchildren, Logan (Alisa) Dailey, of Valentine, NE, and Colton Dailey, of Spearfish, SD; a sister, Lois Schmid, and brother, Patrick Powers, both of Broken Bow; brothers-in law, Leo Ryan and Jim Tully; and many nieces, nephews and other family.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Pappy, in 2006; her parents, James and Nellie Powers; a brother, Bill Powers; four sisters, LeVerne McCorville, Patty Ryan, Betty Tully and Delma Powers; and brother-in-law, Leo Schmid.

Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Pastor Robert Weist officiating. Burial will follow in the McCain Cemetery, southeast of Stapleton. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements. Arthur “Art” Wayne Lockhart

Arthur “Art” Wayne Lockhart, age 91 formerly of Lemoyne, passed away Friday February 19, 2016 at Linden Court Nursing Home in North Platte.
Art was born on August 6, 1924 in Stapleton, NE to Richard and Grace Harriet (Colburn) Lockhart. He was the 3rd living child born to his parents and had 4 surviving siblings. He grew up in the area and attended Banner School thru the 8th grade. In March of 1946 he joined the army and served as a medic in Japan with the Occupation Forces at the end of WWII thru May of 1947. In his civilian life Art worked for 60+ years for the Wilson Ranch near Lemoyne. He was truly a 19th Century Cowboy! He loved to ride, he could fix anything and he raised his own quarter horses. He was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2008. Art loved kids and was very good natured.
Art is survived by his sister Ruth Reynolds of North Platte, NE; brother David Lockhart of Houston, TX; a slew of nieces and nephews; the Wilson family; as well as many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Richard Lockhart and Betty Northey.

The family requests casual dress at his service as “Art was not a suit and tie kind of man.” Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday February 24, 2016 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home with Chaplain Deb Dishman officiating. Gladys Pearl Wisner Memorial Service

Gladys Pearl Wisner, age 99, of North Platte, NE, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.

Gladys was born May 26, 1916, to Edward Merriam and Pearl Edna Black Robbins on the family farm southeast of North Platte. In 1919 the family moved into town where Gladys attended school and graduated from North Platte High School. She then attended Kearney College and Hastings College, earning her teaching certificate.

Gladys taught at a rural school in Lincoln County until she was married. On July 31, 1938, Gladys was united in marriage to James Russell ‘Russ’ Wisner of Hastings, NE. They lived on a farm just north of Hastings until the beginning of W.W.II then moved into town where Russ worked for the Railway Express Company. The family later moved to the Robbins family farm near North Platte in 1949 and lived there until Russ passed away in 2007.

Gladys was a member of Valley Christian Church and the Sunshine Extension Club. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, traveling and solving word search puzzles. Gladys also loved making desserts.

She leaves behind her children, Robin (Carol) Wisner, of Ft. Dodge, IA, Barb (David) Lehmkuhler, of Copperas Cove, TX, and Linda (Marv) Swedlund, of Grand Island, NE; sister-in-law, Carolyn Cullip, of Aurora, CO; and brother-in-law, Richard (Lavina) Wisner, of Hastings.

Survivors also include seven grandchildren, Gary (Tracy) Lehmkuhler, Joan Lehmkuhler and Duane Lehmkuhler, all of Copperas Cove, Donna (Brian) Haferbier, of Ames, IA, Russ (Angie) Wisner, of North Liberty, IA, James Swedlund, of Grand Island and Jason (Amy) Swedlund, of Lincoln, NE; nine great-grandchildren, James Lehmkuhler, of Copperas Cove, Michaela, Cody and Faith Haferbier, of Ames, Sage and Selena Wisner, of North Liberty, and Ethan, Dylan and Regan Swedlund, of Lincoln; a great great-grandson, James Haferbier, of Ames; and other family.

Along with her husband, Russ, Gladys was preceded in death by their son, Roger; her parents, Edward and Pearl Robbins; three sisters, Zoda Moulton, Ila Florey and Orpha Webb; sisters-in-law, Betty Knapp and Nellie Poore; and brothers-in-law, Don Knapp, Clarence Cullip and Jewit Poore.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at Valley Christian Church with Pastor Brent Montgomery officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Plainview Cemetery, west of Maxwell. Sharron K. Mullen

Sharron K. Mullen, age 74 of North Platte and formerly of Maywood, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Great Plains Health. She was born on the first day of January in 1942 to P.R. and Vera (Shirley) White. Sharron grew up in the Maywood area and attended District 80 School and Maywood High School. On March 7, 1957, she was united in marriage to Cecil Ray Mullen at Stockville. She was employed by the Maywood Public Schools for a number of years and then lovingly, helped raised their five children. They moved to North Platte in April of 2015. Sharron loved being with her grandchildren and her crossword puzzles. Survivors include her husband; Cecil Ray of North Platte, children; Jerry (Lorraine) Mullen of Maywood, Diane (George) Dykes of Georgia, Michael of North Platte, James (Becky) Mullen of McCook, and David (Sheri) Mullen of North Platte, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, three sisters; Shirley (Kenny) Hammel, of Clarion, IA, Twila (Jim) Hand of North Platte, and Phyllis (Delbert) Prindle of Omaha, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Richard and Willard White, and a sister Helen June Glaze. Private family services will be held. Dorothy June Ostendorf

Dorothy June Ostendorf, 88, of North Platte, formerly of Maxwell, passed away February 13th, 2016 in Wilber, NE, with family by her side. She was born on a farm near Cedar Rapids, NE on December 16th, 1927 to Harrison and Mable Hartford. When she was 4 years old, the family moved to a farm near Primrose, NE, where she went to a country school through the 8thgrade. After graduating from Primrose High School, she moved to North Platte, and worked at Western Union and then The Bell Telephone Company. On May 18, 1947, she married Donald Ostendorf. This union was blessed with eight children.
In 1960 they moved to Maxwell, returning to North Platte in 2011. In 1973, Dorothy began working for the North Platte Telegraph, retiring in 1990 after 17 years of service. After retiring, she was a volunteer for various organizations, including Great Plains Health. Her large and extended family is what she treasured most. Dorothy was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of North Platte.
She was an avid fan of NASCAR, Husker football, volleyball and loved watching televised sporting events. Dorothy also loved attending sporting events involving her children and grandchildren. Prior to Don’s death in 2011, they enjoyed the social time of gathering with friends at the Eagle’s Club and/or the V.F.W. She will be remembered for her patience, her hospitality, an occasional trip to Rosebud Casino and her love of playing cards in her home, with friends and family.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Ronald (Cindi) Ostendorf of North Platte; seven daughters, Donna Hilderbrand of Colorado Springs, CO, Jan (Evan) Mehl of Crete, Bonnie (Tom) Rector of North Platte, Patricia (Phil) Miller of Cody, Tammy (Treverr) Menghini and Mindee (Mike) Mohr of North Platte, and Cindee (Tracy) Wright of Cabot, AR; 32 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marjorie (Halverson) Taylor and Darlene (Henry) Schick of North Platte; brothers; Thomas (Donna) Hartford of Kearney and Robert (Ruth) Hartford of Loretto, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; a brother, William Hartford; sisters, Mildred Douty and Irene Loeffler; and a great-granddaughter, Alex Madison Jeffers.

Darrell LeRoy Stack

Darrell LeRoy Stack, age 90, of North Platte passed away February 15, 2016 at Great Plains Health. He was born April 28, 1925 in Tryon, Nebraska to Donald and Esther (Schipper) Stack.
Darrell graduated from Oconto Public Schools, entering the United States Army, serving in Italy during WWII. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Oconto where he began ranching. On September 17, 1950 he married Joyce D. Wood in Eddyville, Nebraska. The couple continued ranching in the Oconto area, and later bought their own farm in 1960, which they continued until moving to North Platte in 1972. Darrell worked for various places in North Platte, but mostly at 6th Street Grocery Stores from 1975-1985.
Darrell belonged to the American Legion for many years. He enjoyed woodworking and making yard art and furniture with Joyce. He loved the Huskers, Atlanta Braves, and the KC Royals!
Survivors include his daughters, Rochelle (Larry) Fletcher and Patricia Porter all of North Platte; grandchildren, Travis Fletcher of North Platte, Teresa Evans of Dakota Dunes, SD, and Michael Porter of North Platte; great-grandchildren, Lainee Evans, Logan Evans, Rowan Fletcher, and Makena Porter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce; brothers, Delbert and Dale Stack; and an infant grandson.

Michelle ‘Misha’ Verlaine Fhuere Neilsen Ryan

Michelle ‘Misha’ Verlaine Fhuere Neilsen Ryan, age 50, of Craig, CO, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at the Denver Hospice Hospital in Denver, CO after a brief illness.

Michelle was born July 30, 1965, at Kennewick, WA. She is the daughter of Verlaine Hasenauer Weir and the late Ed Weir. Michelle grew up in Wallace and graduated from Wallace High School in 1984. In June 1985 she married Frank Neilsen and to this union a son, Joshua Ryan, was born.

Michelle continued her education, graduating from Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, CO in 1991 then received a BA in Art Education from Metropolitan State College in Denver in 1996. She taught K-12 art in the Denver area for 19 years.

Michelle enjoyed art and teaching art. She also loved spending time with Josh and Renee and her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Josh (Renee) Neilsen (who is expecting her first grandchild), of Brighton, CO; her mother, Verlaine ‘Vee’ Weir, of Wallace; siblings, Corey (Rebecca) Fhuere, of Jefferson, OR, Cherie (Gavin) McClintock, of Elsie, NE, Vickie (Dave) Todd, of Illinois, Kevin (Terry) Weir and Brian (Cheryl) Weir, both of Omaha, NE, Stacy Dietrich, of Dallas, TX, Wendy (Troy) Grothman, of Venango, NE, Tonyia (Michael) Miller, of North Platte, NE, and Rita (Duane) Kirch, of Lewellen, NE; sister-in-law, Susie McMurray, of Spokane, WA; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other family.

Michelle was preceded in death by her stepdad, Ed Weir; two brothers, Kurt Fhuere and William McMurray; and nephew, Will McMurray.

As to her wishes, Michelle donated her body to science. A Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016, at the Wallace United Methodist Church with Pastor Charles Nyamakope officiating. Gordon Charles ‘Gordy’ Moore

Gordon Charles ‘Gordy’ Moore, age 74, formerly of North Platte, NE, passed away at his home in Lincoln, NE, on Thursday, February 11, 2016.

Gordy was born April 16, 1941 to Paul V. and Mary Louise Copley Moore at Culbertson, NE where he grew up. Gordy graduated from Culbertson High School in 1958 then joined the U.S. Navy.

After serving 4 years and 3 days in the military, Gordy was honorably discharged. He then returned to Nebraska and trained to become a Journeyman Bricklayer.

On December 24, 1966, Gordy married Joyce Ann Huffman in North Platte where they made their home and raised three children. Gordy worked as a bricklayer most of his life and took great pride in his work. He also worked at the U.S. Post Office later in life for 18 years, until he retired in 2012. Even as he worked at the Post Office, he continued his passion of bricklaying when his skills were needed.

After living in North Platte for 40 years, he and Joyce moved to Lincoln in 2015 to be closer to their children. Gordy liked pitching horseshoes, golfing, watching sports and old westerns, relaxing at home, and spending time with close friends and family.

He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #1504, P.R. Halligan Post #163 American Legion, Eagles Aeries #2839 and B.P.O. Elks #985.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Lincoln; their children, Brett Moore, of Nebraska, Shannon Moore of Lincoln, NE, and Danielle (Shane) Gibson, of Overland Park, KS; two granddaughters, Grace and Trinity Moore; two brothers, Roger (Mina) Moore, of California, and Michael (Suzanne) Moore, of Oregon; his sister, Sandra Teel, of Oregon; a niece, Colleen Paine (Andy) Ivazes; four nephews, Kevin (Rachel) Moore, Jeff (Lisa) Teel, Justin Moore and Keenan Moore; and other family.

Gordy was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary; and a niece, Robin Moore.

Norma I. Pittack

Norma I. Pittack, age 88, of North Platte and formerly of Plainview, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 in North Platte. She was born February 2, 1928 to Meldy and Rena Johnson at Plainview, NE. Norma graduated from Plainview High School with the class of 1944 and taught school at District 62 in Antelope County for two years. On February 8, 1948, she was united in marriage to LeRoy Pittack at the Bethany Lutheran Church. The couple farmed southwest of Plainview for many years. They moved to Plainview in 1966 and then to Norfolk in 1970 and later returned to the Plainview Community. Norma moved to North Platte in 2001 to be near her daughter. She was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in North Platte and past member of Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview, where she was active in the bible studies and Lady’s Aide. Norma enjoyed playing cards, golfing, playing the piano, and sewing. Family that will cherish her include her daughter, Lynette Hickman; grandchildren, Shawn (Leanna) Hickman, Heather (Shane) Kirk, and Justin Hickman; great-grandchildren, Alaina, Mia, Ryan, and Kaleb; brother, Mervin (Sharalyn) Johnson; sister-in-law, Norma Pittack and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Jerry Pittack; son-in-law, Jerry Hickman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Olga Johnson; Marvin (Leota) Pittack; Glenda (LeRoy) Steinkraus; Harold Pittack; Edwin (Winetta) Pittack; Donald (Esther) Pittack; and Leonard (Eunice) Pittack; and a nephew and several cousins. Services will be 11:00 am Monday at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in North Platte and 11:00 am Wednesday, at Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview. Burial will be at the Plainview Cemetery. Carol Ann Bender, 67, of North Platte passed away February 8, 2016 at Great Plains Health.
She was born in Scottsbluff, NE on December 16, 1948 to Rueben and Rose (Reizenstein) Wiege. Carol grew up in various towns, finishing her high school career at North Platte High School. She married Gary Ridinger on July 7, 1968 in North Platte. The couple lived in various places due to Gary’s Army Career before settling in Big Springs, NE. Carol started her upholstery business in 1973, attending classes and taking much pride in her work. She and Gary moved to North Platte to further her career leading to them opening Carol’s Upholstery. To their union two daughters were born, Tammy and Joy.
Carol married Ervin P. Bender on September 29, 1983 in North Platte. She attended Harvest Christian Fellowship. She loved flowers and gardening, enjoyed playing pool and was on two leagues, was captain of her teams and acquired MVP status. Carol participated in Bunco, enjoyed WWE Wrestling, especially John Cena and Roman Reigns. She loved her pets, dancing and music, junk shopping, and having dances at her home for her friends and daughters. She especially enjoyed spending time with her daughters and family.
Survivors include daughters, Tammy Kimminau of Mishawaka, Indiana and Joy (Troy) Epler of North Platte, Nebraska; grandchildren, Jordan May, Jared May, Anthony Epler, Isaiah Epler, Gracie Epler, and Josiah Epler; great-grandchild, Kennedy May; sister, Judy (Daniel) Fegler of Oregon City, OR; several other family members and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
