Jeffrey K. “Jeff” Jones, 53, of North Platte, passed away Nov. 30, 2015 at Great Plains Health. He was born June 28, 1962 to John and Helen (Maxon) Jones at North Platte. He graduated from North Platte High School with the class of “81”. On May 1, 1992, Jeff was united in marriage to Lucinda Siegel. He was employed at Jerry Remus for 23 years as a service technician. He enjoyed car racing and fishing. Jeff is survived by his wife, Lucinda; his son, Austin both of North Platte; three brothers, Gene (Karen) of North Platte, Randy (Cheri) and Mike (Marsha) all of Utah; his father and mother-in-law, Louis and Polly Seigel of Stapleton; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Virginia Irene Meyer

Virginia Irene Meyer, age 90, of Wellfleet, NE, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE.

Virginia was born April 28, 1925, to Ward Valdo and Bertha May Lenz Tower at Grant, NE. She grew up in the Dickens area and graduated in 1942 from Dickens High School in a class that included her and two boys.

After graduation Virginia married Kenneth Carl Meyer on June 1, 1942, in Trenton, NE. They made their home on the Willow Creek, south of Dickens, NE before moving to the family ranch southeast of Dickens. Virginia lived on the ranch or in the Dickens area her entire life and was a member of the Wellfleet United Methodist Church.

She loved her lawn, gardening and flowers, especially her roses which she enjoyed growing. Virginia also did a lot of handy work and liked embroidering, crocheting and sewing. She was a great cook and made the best coleslaw and potato salad. Virginia dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and liked having the neighbors over and playing cards.

She leaves behind her children, Kenton (Dawn) Meyer, of Fairmont, NE, and Kelley (Rick) Sexson, of Farnam, NE; two grandchildren, Justin Sexson and Jessica (Caleb) Nutt; two great-grandchildren, Reid and Shaylyn; and her hired man, Ken Tidyman, who has been with the family for 27 years and lives south of the ranch.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; and parents, Ward and Bertha Tower.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 4, 2015, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Pastors Greg Boller and Brian Nicklas officiating. Burial will follow in the Dickens Cemetery. Visitation and family greeting friends will be Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements. Don E. Herbig, 88, of North Platte, passed away Nov. 28, 2015 at Great Plains Health. He was born March 15, 1927 to Roy F. and Mildred I. (Marler) Herbig at Aurora, NE. In September of 1950, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Mager and to this union two daughters were born, Peggy and Donna. On August 15, 1971, he was united in marriage to Dorothy L. Kelley and they made their home in North Platte. Don was employed as a mechanic for Mathew Chevrolet and the North Platte Cedar Bowl for over 28 years. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed working on cars, did some woodworking and volunteered at church. Don is survived by his daughter, Peggy I. (Rahn) Bek of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Suzie (Ross) Wahlgren, Robin (Dan) Graves and Tim Sevier. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Dorothy in 2002; a daughter, Donna Sevier and a grandson, John Holbrook. Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Walter Edward Woolson

Walter Edward Woolson, age 92, of North Platte, NE, passed away at home on Saturday, November 28, 2015.

Walt was born September 16, 1923 to Francis A. and Mary L. Favinger Woolson in Philadelphia, PA. Walt joined the U.S. Army and served our country during World War II. When he returned from the service, he graduated high school and took a job inspecting radio towers. His job brought him to the Midwest where he met the love of his life, Ardith Ann Victor.

Walt and Ardith were married on July 17, 1954, in Wakefield, NE. They made their home in North Platte where Walt owned and operated a Farmers Insurance group from which he retired.

Walt was a member of the First Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. He was also a member of Platte Valley Lodge # 32 AF&AM and North Platte Shrine Club, and volunteered his time at many local organizations.

Walt is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Ardith, and son, Al Woolson, both of North Platte; 3 granddaughters; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other family and his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Mary; and four brothers, Robert, Richard, William and David.

As to Walt’s wishes, he donated his body to science. A memorial service and inurnment will be held at a later in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com. Richard Duane Francis

richard-francisRichard Duane Francis, age 86, of North Platte, NE, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015, at the Golden Living Center in Cozad, NE.

Richard was born December 24, 1928, to Thistle and Bessie May Parks Francis near Rebanon, KS. For most of his young life Richard lived with his grandmother and grandfather Francis on the farm. Since it was during the Depression and drought, his parents had had to work hard to put food on the table. By the age of 17, Richard’s father quit farming and bought a gas station, which they both worked until Richard was sent to Korea for two years.

Richard served in the U.S. Army then upon his discharge at Camp Crowder, MO he began working at a Firestone Store in Smith Center, KS. It was during this time that Richard met Florence Marie Schriner in a whirlwind courtship that lasted seven days before they took their marriage vows on September 26, 1954, at Kensington, KS. This marriage lasted 44 years until Florence passed away in 1998.

Since he was married, they made the decision to move to Los Angles, CA where Richard was employed by North American Aircraft for a year. They later moved to Omaha, NE and lived in Council Bluffs, IA. Richard worked for Wilson Packing in Omaha for the next 20 years until the plant closed. While living in Council Bluffs, two daughters, Jayne Marie and Julie Ann, brought great happiness to the home.

The family later moved to Riverton, NE where Richard was employed by Ely Grain at Red Cloud, and worked for 20 years before retiring. He and Florence also ran a fitness center at Red Cloud until his wife was unable to work. They eventually sold their home and moved to North Platte in July of 1996 to be closer to their daughters and families.

Richard leaves behind his daughters, Jayne Medina, of Lehigh Acres, FL, and Julie (Scott) Sharp, of North Platte; six grandchildren, Jachael Wilson, Kyle Jahneke, Jordan (Monica) Jahneke, Brandon Sharp, Ethan Sharp and Jonathan Sharp; three great-grandchildren, Brooklynn, Kailynn and Amelia; and other family.

Along with his wife, Florence, Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Thistle and Bessie; and two sisters, Helen Wagner and Catherine Lawrence.

Cremation was chosen. A private family memorial service will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.

Greta S. Mueller

Greta S. Mueller beloved wife of 35 years and devoted mother of 4 amazingly successful and wonderful children, passed away peacefully in her sleep while visiting family and grandchildren in North Platte the morning of November 24, 2015.

Greta was born in 1958 in North Platte, NE, to Robert Eugene Sr. and Kathryn Ann (Duryea) Roeder.  She resided in Maxwell, NE, Ashland, NE and currently in Lincoln, NE.  Her three grandchildren, who meant the world to her, accompanied her to Disneyland and the beaches of California one month prior to her passing.  Greta was passionate about all things beautiful in this world to include her love of flowers, specifically hydrangeas, antique shopping and gardening.  She enjoyed working as a caregiver for many in the Omaha/Ashland area and cared for her mother and father in their last months of life.  She had a love for exquisite arts, crafts and shadow boxes that she created for her friends and family; and most recently, amazing home decorating in which she was fully engaged the last months of her life at her home in Lincoln.  Her pets were her constant companion wherever she went, including Lucee, her adorable 4 lb. Yorkie and her favorite parrot, Harley.  Greta was a very strong individual having served her family and country bravely when her husband Darrell voluntarily deployed to Baghdad, Iraq for over two years in 2007 and 2011, to engage the global war on terrorism.  Following Darrell’s last combat tour they renewed their wedding vows in Las Vegas on 12/12/12 to celebrate 31 years of marriage.

Greta is survived by her husband Darrell who serves as a Nebraska State Park Superintendent; four children, Trinity (Buck) Mueller of Maxwell, NE, Ashley (Darrin) Reeves of North Platte, NE, Taylor Mueller of Ashland, NE and Ivy Mueller of Omaha, NE; 3 grandchildren, Macie, Delanie and Gunner Reeves; sister Sheri Ramirez of Lincoln, NE; brother Bob Roeder of Paris, France; as well as numerous nieces, a nephew and two cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Kathryn Roeder; and in-laws Don and Ann Mueller.

Mildred (Stubbs) Whitesel

Mildred-WhiteselMildred (Stubbs) Whitesel passed away peacefully in her home on November 23, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.  Mildred was born on April 14, 1919 to Frank and Encie Stubbs on her grandparent’s   farm.  She married the love of her life Louis Whitesel on December 5, 1936. From this union 4 children were born.  She was a happy, compassionate, and loving mother.  Those who knew her were blessed by her sense of humor, joy of living and love of life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; her parents, Frank and Encie; brothers, Orval, Ben, Grover; and sister Aletha.

Survived by her children, Cleo (Darrell) Hill, Allan (Trish), Terry (Mary) and Melanie (Jim); grandchildren, Charity (Ben), David and Darin (Leanne) Hill, Gwen (Matthew) Cory, Matthew Whitesel and Kiersten (Michael) Stockham;  great grandchildren, Sarah (Britt) McClintock,  Darrell Hill, Keagan, Tucker, and Harley Hill and Cormick and Peydinn Stockham; brothers, Jack (Anita) and Charles; sisters, Twila (Bob), Loy (Bill), and Ermine (Marvin); many nieces and nephews.

William E. Cogley

William E. Cogley, of North Platte, NE, passed into his heavenly home on Nov. 22, 2015 at Great Plains Health. Bill was born on Aug. 7, 1942 in Cohoes, NY to Norman and Gladys Cogley.
He graduated from Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam, NY with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was employed by Mobil Oil, ALCO, LEDCo, United Oil, General Electric, Nexterna and EMD until retiring in 2008.
In 1974, he married Marilyn J. King and inherited a ready-made family of 4 children. He was a member of First Baptist Church of North Platte. He was a faithful servant of Jesus, leading many Bible studies and an Emmaus brother. His hobbies were bowling, trapshooting, fishing and golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind his wife, Marilyn, of 41 years; daughter, Renae (Irving F.) Hiatt; sons, Tom (Darcy) King, Kenny King of North Platte and Jerry (Ingrid) King of Quilicura Chile; 14 grandchildren and their spouses; 7 great grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Paul and Marcia Gagnon of Troy, NY; sister-in-law, Karen Pistner of Erie, PA; and many friends.
