Ronald Gene Woodward

Ronald Gene Woodward, 73, of North Platte, died Tuesday, January 8,
2019, at Great Plains Health.

Ron was born March 4, 1945, to Harold Orlando and Vera Irene (Brown)
Woodward in North Platte where he grew up.  Ron graduated from North
Platte High School with the Class of 1963 then moved to California to
attend college.

After graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree he entered the ministry for
a short time then went back to school.  Ron eventually went to work for
several tech companies in California and Washington and worked
internationally.

He is survived by his children, Vannesa Woodward Aguilar (Rich) and
Collin Woodward, and grandchildren, Kilie and Ryan Aguilar, all of
California; brother, Leon (Lynda) Woodward, of Casa Grande, Arizona; as
well as other family.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and sister.

Cremation was chosen and inurnment will be at a later date in the North
Platte Cemetery.  The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com.

Robert Dean Barrett

Robert Dean Barrett, age 93 of North Platte, died January 15, 2019 at Linden Court. He was born June 8, 1925 to Clinton J. and Estella M. (Hill) Barrett at North Platte.  He graduated from North Platte High School.

He was united in marriage to Bennitta Marie Williams at North Platte. Robert served in the United States Army during WWII until his honorable discharge.  He owned and operated Krispy Krust Bakery.

Robert was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge, American Legion, and Eagles Lodge, member of the Hadley Barrett and Westerns Band, and past president of Nebraska Bakery Association.  Robert enjoyed his backyard gardening, his swimming pool, golfing and husker football.  He thoroughly loved his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Constance M. Rockstool, Patricia L. Hongsermeier and Robert A. Barrett; nine grandchildren, Devan (Rudy) Roybal, Jennifer (Martin Duavin) Fitcher, Robin (Greg O’Dean) Barrett, James (Christy) Rookstool, Julie (Scott Swan) Rookstool, Jona Rookstool, Josh (Sasha Day) Rookstool, Monte Wilson, Ruy Acevedo, and Michael (Amy) Wilson; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bennittta; brothers and sisters, Wilma Loftus, Maureen Van Buren, Mildred Jones, Warren Barrett, Hadley Barrett and Clinton Barrett.

Memorial services will be 11:00 am Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Cremation was chosen. Vaughn F. Meyer

Vaughn F. Meyer, 74, of North Platte, passed away January 12, 2019 at UNMC at Omaha.  He was born June 6, 1944 to Otto John and Geraldine (Houck) Meyer at Grand Island.  He graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1962 and later served in the United States Navy.  Vaughn was united in marriage to Judith McCallister on May 4, 1964 in San Diego, CA. While in California, he worked in the shipyards.  Judith passed away in 2000.  On February 16, 2007, he was united in marriage to Mary Brememkamp at Julesburg, CO.

Vaughn retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 2009 after many years.  He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and playing pool.  He spent the last eight winters in Arizona. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, where he enjoyed helping in the kitchen.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of North Platte; daughters, Teresa (Ron) Stewart of North Platte, Tracy (Chris) Frederick of Hershey and Tamyra Jones of North Platte; son, Timothy (Virginia) Meryer of Aurora, CO; brother, Ron (Nikki) Meyer of North Platte; stepson, Bill (Wendy) Thompson of North Platte, 16 grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, Danielle, Andy, Sean, Alicia, Tyler, Brooke, Amber, Colby, Roni, Zaquery, Shyann, Teddy, Jonathan and Kadence; 10 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, family, friends and furry companions.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judith; three brothers, Ed Stoeger, Bill Meyer and Bob Meyer.

John L. Thompson

John L. Thompson, 80, of North Platte, passed away January 11, 2019 at Great Plains Health.  He was born May 3, 1938 to Eddie and Katherine (Engleman) Thompson at Bayard, NE.  John graduated from North Platte High School with the class of “58”.

On August 4, 1962, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Cropp at North Platte.  John was employed as a carman with Union Pacific Railroad for over 30 years.    He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Eagles Lodge.  John enjoyed woodworking, bike riding and working in his yard.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, of North Platte; children, Roger (Kelly) Thompson of North Platte, Carol Lilly of Grand Island, Catherine Jarvis of North Platte and Annette (John) Shafer of North Platte; four grandchildren, Heather (Karl) Jones, Kyle Thompson, Alexander (Madi) Thompson and Ashley (Kyle) Boysen; one great granddaughter, Chevey Stout and one on the way; sister, Jean Thompson of Kansas; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; and sisters.

Viola Maxine Curtis

Viola Maxine Curtis, age 83 of North Platte, passed away Thursday January 10, 2019 at Great Plains Health.

Viola was born November 14, 1935 at Los Animas, CO to Joseph R. and Dorothy M. (Thaden) Nolting.  She grew up and attended schools in Ogallala, NE, Crook, CO, graduating from Brady, NE in 1954.  On May 14, 1954 she married Virgil O. Major and they spent the next 19 ½ years in the Navy.  To their union 3 children were born, Richard, Susan and Charles.  Virgil passed away on May 17,1974 and their son Richard in August of 2000.  In September of 1979 she met Bobby D. Curtis and they were married on December 18, 1982.  Bobby passed away December 5, 2005.

Viola is survived by daughter Susan Seevers of North Platte; son Charles (Denise) Major of North Platte; step children Kevin (Vickie) Curtis of North Platte, Terry Curtis of St. Cloud, FL, Jeff Curtis of Harmony, FL, and Carol Snider of St. Cloud, FL; grandchildren Justin, Vance, Tasha, Charlie, Gabby and Dalton; step grandchildren, Joe, Mandy, Jeff, Miranda and Jeremy; 7 great grandchildren;6 step great grandchildren; sisters Eunice (Del) Shirley of Tyler, TX and Opal Timmer of Victoria, TX; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Dorothy Nolting; 2 husbands Virgil Major and Bobby Curtis; son Richard Major; son-in-law Doug Seevers; siblings Ivan (Judy) Nolting, Ken (Lena) Nolting, Velma Weiss and Hazel Habel; and step great grandson Braxton Curtis.
