Mary E. Campbell, age 78, of North Platte, passed away August 21, 2015 at her home. On December 20, 1936 she was born at Troy, NY to Albert and Evelyn Mary (Emery) Quinn. Mary grew up in New York where she raised her loving family. In 1975 she moved to North Platte and later was united in marriage to Robert L. Campbell on October 15, 1999. Survivors include her husband, Robert of North Platte, children, Tammy (David) Buesing of Whitman, NE, Edna, Billy, Patti, Todd, Jeanne, Mickey “Perry” (Sandi), and Michael Wilcox all of Troy, NY, daughter-in-law, Pam Campbell, 8 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sons, Alfred Wilcox and Steve Campbell, daughter, Annette Wilcox, and a grandson Dustin McEntire. Memorial graveside services will be 11:00 am Monday, August 31, 2015 at the Riverview Cemetery near Sutherland. A memorial has been established in her memory. Joseph W. “Joe”  Sedlacek

Joseph W. “Joe”  Sedlacek, 82, of North Platte passed away August 22, 2015 at his home.  He was born January 22, 1933 to Joseph and Sophia (Meyer) Sedlacek on a farm near Paxton, Nebraska.  Joe attended rural grade schools and graduated from Paxton High School in 1950.  He attended the University of Nebraska Agriculture College before enlisting in the United States Air Force July 1952 and was honorably discharged July 1956 from Offutt Air Force Base.

While at Offutt Field Joe met Mary Wilson, his future wife, the two were married March 2, 1957.  To this union was born 4 children, twins, Juliann and Jerald, Michael, and Jean.

Joe worked for three years on his father’s farm and briefly in the oil fields.  He then worked for a retail grocery chain in Ogallala and North Platte for a number of years.  He then owned and managed a retail liquor store, Joe’s Bottle Shop.  After selling the liquor store, he was occupied working part time, doing volunteer work as a member of RSVP, and was a member of the North Platte City Council from 1996-2000.  Joe was a permanent member of the American Legion Post at Paxton, NE, was a third degree Life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10506 of Holy Spirit for the 20th Century Memorial.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sophia; a baby sister, Margaret; an infant son, Jerald; and a daughter, Juliann.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of North Platte; children, Dr. Michael (Debra) Sedlacek of Bellevue, NE and Dr. Jeanie (John) Iberlin of Buffalo, WY; a brother, Richard Sedlacek of Gretna, NE; sister, Mary Lammers of North Platte; grandchildren, Lucie Sedlacek of Bellvue, NE, Grace (David) Schumacher of Millard, NE and Danielle Barent of Gypsum, CO.

Christian Wake Services will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with the Reverend James Novakowski as celebrant.  Burial will be in the Paxton Cemetery.  Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. unit; 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

Donzel L. “Donnie” Nielsen

Donzel L. “Donnie” Nielsen, 79, of North Platte, passed away August 20, 2015 at his home. He was born June 18, 1936 to Niels and Florence (Essley) Nielsen on the Garfield Table in Logan County. Donnie graduated from Stapleton High School in 1954 and later served as a technical sergeant in the United States Air Force for over 20 years. During that time, he was united in marriage to Bette Towers on September 8, 1963 at Amarillo, TX. After his discharge he hired on the UPPR and retired in 1998. Donnie loved spending time with family, especially his granddaughter Kaitlyn. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trips to Rosebud, and playing shuffleboard. Donnie was proud of his military service and his country.  He was a member of the Eagles, American Legion, VFW, and Platte Valley Lodge #32 A.F. and A. M. Survivors include his daughter, Kim Clawson, granddaughter, Kaitlyn both of Centennial, CO, two sisters, Lynette Baker and Lorain Bartmess both of North Platte; two brothers, Donald (Esther) of Laramie, WY,and Darold (Braun) of Kearney; several nieces and nephews including Charles Towers of Thermopolis, WY, and many friends including Margaret Call. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bette,  three sisters, Lenora Moore, Virginia Nielsen, and Leora Smith; four brothers, Deane, Darwin, Dennis and Dale Nielsen. Dennis H. Dowhower, 91, of North Platte, passed away August 19, 2015 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. He was born March 5, 1924 to Elmer and Alice (Stoddard) Dowhower at North Platte. He graduated from North Platte High School with the class of “42” and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Dennis served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was united in marriage to Barbara Tomlinson. He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad as an electrician for over 32 years. He married Beverly (Meyers) Hilton in 1988. Dennis enjoyed playing tennis, golfing and cycling. He made many trips on his motorcycle and camping. He was a member of Freedom From Religion. Dennis is survived by his wife, Beverly of North Platte; two sons, Kelly (Stella) Dowhower of Omaha and Tracy Dowhower of North Platte; a daughter, Denise (Roy) Hunter of Omaha; two brothers, Lloyd Dowhower of North Platte and Virgil Dowhower of Oregon; a sister, Florence Ziarko of New York; seven grandchildren, Robyn, Carlos, Rhea, Lindsey, Britni, Dustin and Kasia; and 10 great grandchildren. Raymond E. Cox

Raymond E. Cox, 69, of Hershey, passed away August 17, 2015 at Bryan LGH in Lincoln. He was born November 29, 1945 to Ed and Amy (Thomas) Cox at Falls City, Nebraska. His family moved to Washington when he was a young boy. He graduated from Orting High School in 1964 and attended Centralia College on a basketball scholarship before returning to Nebraska to live with his sister, Barb. He was drafted into the Army, but before he left North Platte, he was united in marriage to Beverly Brown on January 9, 1966. Ray was stationed at Fort Riley, KS until 1968. He returned to North Platte and worked with family in the drywall business, then starting his own, Ray’s Drywall in 1970. He enjoyed antagonizing Beverly for nearly 50 years. He was Clancy’s best friend, Casey’s protector, and was a devoted “Pop Pop”. Ray was a sustaining member of the NRA, a past member of the American Legion and various area golf courses. He was also the Chairman of the Hershey Village Board for 2 terms. Ray had a huge personality but an even bigger heart. All who came into contact with him recognized this right away. He loved phone calls to family and would often keep relatives on the line for hours. He did everything big and that’s the way he loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Bev; a son, Casey both of Hershey; a daughter, Clancy (Tyson) Hammond of North Platte; two grandchildren, Landry and Dylanie; a brother, Clarence (Deanna) Cox of Washington; two sisters, Debbie Forbes of North Platte and Sandra Davidson of Washington; a brother-in-law, Roger Holsten of North Platte; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles; sisters, Gladys Schoenbachler, Reba Sigafoos, Marie Casten and Barbara Holsten. Idris L. Snyder, 91, of North Platte, passed away August 18, 2015 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. She was born January 15, 1924 to David and Susie (Harvey) Miller at Tryon, NE. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Club. She was united in marriage June 7, 1942 to Leo Snyder at North Platte. Idris is survived by her daughter, Diana Martin; two sons, Darrell (Kathy) Snyder and Dana (Lois) Snyder all of North Platte; nine grandchildren, Lisa (Kevin) Smith, Amy (Chris) Axtell, Tracy (Bill) Walsh, Terri (Andy) Bauhn, Tina Clark, Trent Snyder, Melissa Bravo, Justin Snyder and Melanee Akens; 20 great grandchildren; a brother, Dean Miller; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo Snyder; a son, Dennis Snyder; a sister, Iva Smith; an infant sister; three brothers, Everet, Erving and Dell Miller; step-father, Chris Carlson; and a son-in-law, Lowell A. Steven Michael Harvey

Steven Michael Harvey passed away at his home in North Platte, NE, August 14, 2015.
Steven Michael Harvey was born January 9, 1963 in North Platte, NE and was adopted by James and MaryAnn Harvey. They resided in Chappell, NE for several years before moving to Culbertson, NE and then to the Benkelman, NE area. Steve attended school in Benkelman and Haigler, NE.
When Steve was 16 years old he dropped out of school and left home, moving to North Platte, NE. He went to work for Denny Mogis Chevrolet and then worked several years for Kohler Trailer Sales. He also worked for Bryner Sod Farm, Union Pacific Railroad and Maxwell’s Off-Road Center. After a serious back injury he was considered disabled and was unable to work.

May 19, 1984, Steve married Teresa Worden from Burwell, NE and to this union two sons were born. Dustin James and Dillon Eugene. They lived their first year of marriage in Max, NE so Steve could help his father in his construction business. They then moved to North Platte where they spent the next 17 years together, divorcing in December 2002.

Steve was a natural mechanic and welder. He loved taking old worn trailers and making them look new again. He especially enjoyed the detail work of painting and pin-striping. Steve also enjoyed watching Nascar races and racing stockcars at the Lincoln County Raceway. He later enjoyed helping his boys race go-karts.
In 1995 Steve was able to obtain his GED, something he was very proud of since school was never easy for him!

He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Jim and MaryAnn Harvey, his birth mother, Jean Brandt and his sister Melissa Harvey.

He is survived by his sons, Dustin (Valerie) Harvey of Omaha, and Dillon Harvey of North Platte. 2 grandchildren, Natalia and Weston Harvey of Omaha. A brother, Rod (Jennifer) Brandt of North Platte, a sister Tammy (Mike) Buntjer of Anchorage, AK. and a sister, Martha (Buddy) DeWeese of Axtell, NE. A nephew, Cory DeWeese and niece Rylee Brandt. Also life-long friend of the family, Brian Grandy.
