Gerald Eugene “Gene” Hill, age 91, of North Platte, passed away August 13, 2015 at Centennial Park Retirement Village.
He was born February 29, 1924 in North Platte to Clifford G. and Myrtle M. Weesner Hill. Gene attended school in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School in 1942. After graduation he entered the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He returned to North Platte and went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. He moved to southern California where he worked for Boeing Aircraft as a machinist. Gene retired and moved back to North Platte to take care of his mother. He enjoyed karaoke and singing in piano bars.
Survivors include two brothers, Lyle (Marvia) Hill of North Platte, and Ronald (Trudy Thompson) Hill of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; nieces and nephews, Marcia Hill, Bill Hill, Pete (Kay) Hill, Randy Hill and Larry (Dianna) Hill; special friends Gloria Adkins of Castle Rock, CO, and Mike and Mindee Mohr of North Platte.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister-in-law, Lois Hill.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with full Military Honors. The Chaplain Norval Holtmeier will officiate.
Visitation will be noon until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

James Wallace West, 47, of Hershey, NE, died at his home on Saturday, August 15, 2015.

Jim was born September 15, 1967, to Willard Wesley and Yvonne Ruth Wright West in Des Moines, IA. He grew up in the Midwest before the family moved to Hershey in 1981. He graduated from Hershey High School in 1986 then attended Doane College on a football scholarship.

After college Jim joined the U.S. Marines, serving from 1991 to 1995. Following his discharge he returned to Hershey where he has resided ever since. Jim worked as an auto glass technician for 20 years, beginning with Auto Glass and then All Star Auto in North Platte where he was currently employed.

On September 19, 1998, Jim married Clyta Kemp and to this union their son, Dalton, was born. Jim and Clyta later divorced. Jim was a member of Paul R. Martin Post #279 American Legion, V.F.W. Post #1504 and Eagles Aries #2839. He loved to hunt, fish, shoot pool and be with his family and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Yvonne West, and son, Dalton West, both of Hershey; stepsons, Travis (Carolyn) Baker and Glen Baker, of North Platte and Kory Baker (special friend, Kelsey Terry), of Sutherland, NE; a sister, Janet B. (Ken) Hoban, of Grand Island, NE; four step grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jakeb and Alyssa Baker and Emberleigh Lehman; two nieces, Beth (Taylor) Hoffmann, of Doniphan, NE, and Sarah Hoban, of Grand Island; and his aunts, uncles and other family.

Jim was preceded in death by his infant son, Jacob Kramer; and his father, Willard.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2015, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Chaplain Gary Smith officiating. Inurnment with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.

Arlene Kathryn Laurinat, 91, of North Platte, NE, passed away Friday, August 14, 2015, at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Arlene was born August 8, 1924, to Reuben Oak and Esther Amanda Edgren Anderson near Elm Creek, NE and grew up on the family farm. She graduated from Holdrege High School in 1941 then attended Grand Island Business College. Arlene later worked in Grand Island, NE for the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant in the Accounting Department.

On August 12, 1947, Arlene was united in marriage to Edwin William Laurinat in Grand Island. They were married for 68 years and raised three children.

Ed and Arlene lived in Lincoln, NE where Arlene worked for the State Employment Office in both Grand Island and Lincoln for several years. They returned to Grand Island in 1952 before moving to North Platte in 1957.

Arlene was a member, Deacon and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church. She was active in the church and served as secretary from 1976-77. She was also a member of P.E.O., the Extension Club for over 30 years and was on the Christian Education Committee. Arlene enjoyed traveling and had visited 49 states, China, Canada and Europe. She also liked quilting and any kind of needle work as well as cooking and baking.

Arlene leaves behind her husband, Ed, of North Platte; their children, Mary Ann Laurinat, of Waltham, MA, Robert (Connie) Laurinat, of Portage, MI, and James Laurinat, of Martinez, GA; two grandchildren, Ahern (Elizabeth Guzy) Laurinat, of Seattle, WA, and Owen Laurinat, of Kalamazoo, MI; a niece and three nephews; and other family.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Maxine and husband, Sam Crisman; her parents, Reuben and Esther Anderson; and a nephew.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 20th at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com. A private family burial will be held in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.

Our beloved father, Elmer Dewitt “Bud” Thompson, Jr., 93, of North Platte, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family at Josie Harper Hospice House on August 13, 2015.
Elmer “Bud” Thompson was born to Elmer D. and Ida Mengel Thompson in August of 1922. He was a longtime resident of North Platte, with the exception of his childhood years in Edinburg, Texas.
Elmer graduated from North Platte High School in 1941 and enlisted in the Army-Air Force during WWII. He served proudly as a pilot and flight engineer. At the close of the war, Bud married Betty Dahlgren in August of 1945. They made their home in Omaha for five years and then moved back to North Platte, where they raised their family of four children. He started a glass contracting business, Economy Glass, with three childhood friends. That was his successful career until his retirement in 1985.
Bud and Betty were cofounders of the Lake Maloney Ski Club and participated in many ski shows and tournaments. With the ski shows, the club helped to fund the construction of the Lake Maloney Golf Course and field house. He became an avid golfer and winter Texan, spending many winters in South Texas. He loved celebrating life with his family and good friends. He loved the great outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an active member of the Moose, the Eagles, and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and sister, Betty Seeger. He is survived by four children, Linda (Ron) Smith of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Tom (Mary) Thompson of Scottsbluff; Shelley (Joe) Riha of Omaha; Mary Lou (Craig) Thurman, of Overland Park, Kansas; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Charlotte Ruth Lundberg of North Platte, Nebraska died August 10, 2015 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 91.
She was born March 31, 1924 near Arnold, Nebraska to Warren and Ethel Eddy Simms. She attended Arnold schools and taught school near Broken Bow, Nebraska for two years. In 1946 she went to Omaha, Nebraska and worked for Bell Telephone Company until 1948. On June 4, 1948 she was united in marriage to Carl M. Lundberg of Omaha, Nebraska. To this union was born two children, Carl Jr. and Linda. Carl Jr. and Debbie Lundberg are of Yukon, Oklahoma and Linda and Brian, now deceased, Carr are of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is survived by both Carl and Linda and six grandchildren and their spouses: Peter and Kelly Carr of Baldwin City, Kansas, Maggie Carr and Hilary and Dustin Nekvinda of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Quinn and Stephanie Carr of Olathe, Kansas, Becky and Hans Schroeder of Edmond, Oklahoma and Shari and Paul Madison of Mustang, Oklahoma. She has twelve great-grandchildren and is also survived by nieces, nephews and friends in several states. Her husband passed away October 17, 1984.
Charlotte was saved in 1944 in Finchville church near Arnold, Nebraska. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in North Platte, Nebraska.
Charlotte’s faith led her to be a gracious, kind, uplifting women who was always a lady. Her positive encouragement and smile will be greatly missed.

Delmar Elvon Sando, 86, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Ogallala, NE, passed away at his home in Tucson on Thursday, August 6, 2015, with his family by his side.

Delmar was born February 15, 1929, to Wilhelm Walter and Amanda Jensine Ordal Sando at Colton, SD where he grew up. After graduating from high school, Delmar attended Augustana College and graduated with a degree in economics. In 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served until 1955.

Following his discharge, Delmar returned to South Dakota and worked in Aberdeen for the State of South Dakota for the next 15 years. He later worked for the Federal Government in Denver, CO for 20 years, achieving the position of Regional Director for the Office of Unemployment Insurance before retiring in 1993. Delmar was also the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the U.S. Consolidated Credit Union.

After retiring he became a small business owner when he purchased a Dairy Queen in Ogallala. This endeavor continued for 23 years until the business was sold in 2012.

While in Aberdeen Delmar met Emily Marie Pedersen and they were united in marriage in 1959. They raised three children together and celebrated 52 years of marriage before Emily passed away in 2011. Delmar loved his family and was a very involved family man. He enjoyed camping, fishing, sporting events and spending time with his grandchildren.

Delmar is survived by his children, Ellen (Mike) Taylor, of Ogallala, Pamela (John) Prokop,

of Tucson and James (Shari) Sando, of Ogallala; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; his sister, Urma Headrick, of Sioux Falls, SD; two brothers, Alverdo Sando, of Dennison, IA, and Orllo Sando, of Colton; and other family members.

Along with his wife, Emily, Delmar was preceded in death by his brother, Merton Sando; and his parents, Wilhelm and Amanda.

Edith Lucile “Dude” Boltz, age 88 of North Platte, passed away on August 6, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Dude was born to George D. and Nettie M. (Winters) Ripple on April 12, 1927 at Bethany Hospital in Kansas City, KS. She spent time attending school in Moorefield, NE and later moved to North Platte where she graduated in 1946. She married Raymond E. Boltz at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on June 7, 1949. They were married many wonderful years and traveled to 49 of the US States along with her mother on vacations. She graduated from North Platte Beauty School in 1955 and later went on to own and run her own salon for over 50 years. She also cared for the elderly, including her mother until she passed away at the age of 99. She raised two little girls for a dear friend. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, she spent much time in her many gardens, she enjoyed cooking and canning, genealogy, making scrap books and quilting. Her favorite calling was working and spoiling her precious angels in the infant room at North Platte Community Day Care Center where she was a foster grandparent for more than 10 years. Dude is survived by her brother Buck M. Ripple; nieces and nephews Theresa and Marco Vieyra, Mike and Carol Ripple, Mark Ripple, their children Alana, Sasha, Arnetia, Steven, Jessica, Brooke and Codi; as well as her adopted daughter Donna Jones and her children Amber and Abbey; as well as great grands Joel, Katie, Sam, Ben, Eliciana, Isabella, Jeremiah, Audrianna, Alexavier, Ethan and Valencia. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband Raymond; as well as her sisters-in-law Patricia Shay Ripple and Sandra Davis Ripple; as well as her sweet dog Juicy Goose.
