Dena Dawn Troxel-Hilyard

Dena Dawn Troxel-Hilyard, 43 years, of North Platte, NE, died at home on Tuesday, February 24, 2015.

Dena was born March 22, 1971, to Michael Delno and Beverly Rose Slack Troxel at Gothenburg, NE. She grew up in Sutherland, NE and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1989. Dena then attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney and received a BS in Business Communications in 1993. Following graduation she married Todd Hilyard and they later divorced.

Dena managed a chiropractic clinic in Aurora, NE for several years before moving to Utica, NE then to Cozad where she worked at the Cozad Clinic for a couple years. She later moved to Gothenburg where she joined the American Lutheran Church, she had been a member since 2001. Dena commuted to Sutherland where she worked at the Gerald Gentleman Station then moved back to Sutherland and worked for Becker Farms.

Dena enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking. She especially loved to spend time with her children.

She leaves behind her children, Jackson and Jordyn Hilyard, of Holdrege, NE; her parents, Mike and Bev Troxel, of Sutherland; sister, Mandy Jo (Greg) Holmberg, of Wichita, KS; a niece and nephew, Avery and Easton Holmberg; uncles, Bill G. (Betty) Slack, of Brady, NE, and Gerald (Cheryl) Troxel, of Grandbury, TX; aunts, Evonne (Garry) Hicken and Carol Slack, of Gothenburg and Karen Anderson, of Rockville, IL; and numerous cousins and other family.

Dena was preceded in death by her uncles, Dennis Anderson and Richard Slack; and grandparents, Dwight and Jewel Troxel and Bill and Geraldine Slack.

Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2015, at Grace Lutheran Church in Sutherland with Vicar JA Welsh officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.

The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for her children’s college education. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.

Margery L. Hinrichsen

margery-hinrichsenMargery L Hinrichsen age 82, of North Platte passed away February 23, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.  She was born on May 14, 1932 in Pleasanton, Nebraska to Lawrence and Louise (Janitscheck) Lewis.

Margery graduated from Kearney High School in 1950.  She attended and graduated from Kearney Teacher’s College.  She taught in Buffalo County Schools for several years.  On May 16, 1954 in Kearney, NE she married Floyd Hinrichsen.  The two moved to Overton and resided there for 10 years where Margery taught in Dawson County rural #76 and the 2nd grade in Overton.  In 1964 they moved with the railroad to Grand Island where they built their first home.  It was in 1972 they moved once again to North Platte with the railroad where they raised their family and Margery worked as a para in the North Platte Public Schools for 11 years.  She retired in April of 1991 and enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren then.  Her life became watching and following her grandchildren; never missing an event.  She will be remembered as an excellent cook, and pie baker.

Survivors include her daughter, Kim Hinrichsen of Cheyenne, WY; son, Keith (Cathy) Hinrichsen of North Platte; grandchildren, Gregory (Priscella) Vega, Nicole Vega all of North Platte, Alexis (Stephen) Friesell, and Alex Hinrichsen all of Kearney; great grandchildren, Taysen and Emma Vega; brother, Larry (Sandy) Lewis of Kearney; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Lewis of North Platte.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd; and two brothers, Eugene and Gary.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2015 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.  Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.  Wednesday and Thursday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

There will be a reception following the graveside service at the Moose Lodge #551 at 1315 East 4th Street.

Paul Gerhardt Pullman

paul-pullmanPaul Gerhardt Pullmann, 83, of North Platte, passed away February 20, 2015 at North Platte Care Center.

He was born May 3, 1931 to George and Hilda (Bender) Pullmann at Wausa, NE.  He graduated from Hunter, Kansas High School. During his working career, Paul worked as a carpenter, mechanic, assembly line worker and for the US Geological Survey. He resided in Wausa, NE, Hunter, KS, Maynard, IA, Minneapolis, MN and in his retirement moved to North Platte and lived at North Platte Care Center.

Paul is survived by his sister, Ellen Gilder of Milaca, MN; his brother, Pastor Carl (Mary) Pullmann of Austin, TX; many nieces, nephews, family friends and other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four sisters and three brothers.

Thomas J. McQuade

thomas-mcquadeThomas J. McQuade, 67, of North Platte, passed away February 20, 2015 at Great Plains Health.  He was born September 9, 1947 to Tom and Betty (Auhl)  McQuade at Valentine, NE.

Thomas grew up in Valentine and moved with his family and graduated from North Platte High School.  He was employed as the Superintendent for Municipal Light and Water for many years. Thomas set many modular homes.  He loved building.  In his later years he also made many stocking hats. He was united in marriage to Mary Schommer in 1986.  Thomas enjoyed collecting and repairing guns and was an avid woodworker.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, Shawn (Rachelle Allbery) McQuade both of North Platte; two daughters, Cherie (Larry Ault) Doer of Gothenburg and Michelle (Tony Aubushon) McQuade of North Platte; a brother, Tim (Janet) McQuade; two sisters, Bernadette Bales of North Platte and Yvonne (Dan) Connery of Mitchell; six grandchildren, Taylor (Tanner Eberle), Hunter, Cameron, Gage, Sissy and Rylee; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Judy Schaffert.  Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Gloria Jean ‘Jeannie’ Hansen

Gloria-Jean-HansenGloria Jean “Jeannie” Hansen, 70, of North Platte, passed away February 21, 2015, surrounded by family at Great Plains Health after a bout with cancer.  Born January 19, 1945, she was adopted by Leonard and Marjorie Folchert of Wellfleet, Nebraska.

She attended elementary school in Wellfleet and high school at the UNSA campus in Curtis.  She was united in marriage with Lawrence Delane Hansen June 10, 1962, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte.  The first five years of married life were spent on the family ranch south of Maxwell.  In 1968 they purchased from Jeannie’s parents the property near Wellfleet where she had grown up, and they lived there until 1989 when they bought a ranch in Cherry County, relocating to the Sand Hills.  In 1996 they purchased a ranch southeast of Alliance.  In 2002, wanting to return to the region where both had grown up, they traded the ranch at Alliance for a ranch at Stapleton.  At that time Jeannie and Lawrence moved into a home north of North Platte.

She served as Sunday School teacher, was on the County Extension Board and 4-H Council, also serving as leader of an area 4-H club, was a member of Opal Springs Extension Club, the Cow Belles, and later worked in the cafeteria at Hyannis High School.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, legendary for her pies and other culinary skills.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother John Spencer, brother-in-law Ned Hansen, sisters-in-law Cora Jane Hansen and Roberta Hansen, brother-in-law Stanley Grandstaff, and other family members.

She is survived by husband Lawrence Hansen and three children, Tom (Jill) of Wellfleet, Travis (Melody) of Stapleton, and Tammy (Ron) of Costa Rica; six grandchildren and one great grandchild; brother George (Marge) Spencer, brother-in-law Vernon Hansen, sister-in-law Florence (John) Shetler, and many other family members too numerous to list.

Velma Maxine Perkins

Velma-PerkinsVelma Maxine Perkins, age 93 of North Platte, passed away Saturday February 21, 2015 at North Platte Care Center where she had resided for the past 4 years.

Velma was born October 26, 1921 in Sutherland, NE to Raymond and Lola (Brumbaugh) Wamsley.  She grew up in the Sand Hills of Nebraska, moving several times as her father worked farm and ranch jobs.  She attended Diamond Bar School for 8 elementary grades, spent one semester of high school in Kansas, 1 ½ years in Hastings, NE, and her last two years in Paxton, NE where she graduated from high school.  She had plans of attending Business School in Denver, but ended up housekeeping for the family she was staying with.  She also did housekeeping and child care for other families before she was married.  At age 19, Velma attended a Literary Meeting at Miller School close to North Platte with friends and there she met Thomas Junior Perkins.  They were married on December 30, 1941 at her uncle’s home in Ogallala, NE and were married for 70 years before he passed away in May of 2012.

She was a busy farm wife and mom to two children, Judith Raye and Thomas Larry, and much of the time had extra children staying at their home.  She always had a big garden, milked the cows, and worked in the hayfield.  She loved the yard and garden and worked hard to keep it blooming and beautiful.  She was active in Mother’s Club at Miller School and Jolly Dozen Club for young mothers in the neighborhood; she also bowled on a league for several years.  She and Junior enjoyed square dancing and attended many dances in the area; they loved to vacation and her favorite spots were the Rocky Mountains, the ocean, and hot springs.

Velma is survived by her children Judy (John) Ruzicka of Grand Island and Tom (Lori Aquila) Perkins of Lakewood, CO; 6 grandchildren James (Patricia) Ruzicka of Juniata, NE, Lisa Ruzicka of Washington State, Clinton Ruzicka of Lincoln, NE, Craig (Stephanie) Ruzicka of Grand Island, NE, Holly (Joshua) Robertson of Waverly, NE, and Heidi (Garon) Lear of Berthoud, CO; 3 great grandchildren Brandon Schlauder, Dustin (Nicole) Ruzicka, Jamie (Brian) Bomberger; and 12 great great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Clare Wamsley.

She was preceded in death by her husband Junior Perkins; her parents Lola and Raymond Wamsley; and two brothers Clarence (Brownie) Wamsley and Larry Wamsley.

Victor W. McMullin

Victor W. McMullin, 90, of North Platte, passed away February 18, 2015 at North Platte Care Center. He was born August 10, 1924 to Victor F. and Vida (Liken) McMullin at Lucas, KS. At the age of six, the family moved to Denver, CO, where Victor attended school. On Sept. 19, 1942, Victor enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during WWII, until his honorable discharge on Dec. 21, 1945. He was united in marriage June 23, 1946, to Lois Lister in Denver. They moved to Arvada, CO then to Cheyenne, WY, where Victor was employed by Union Pacific Railroad, as a brakeman, retiring in 1984. In 2010, they moved to North Platte. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Cheyenne, VFW and the UTU. Victor is survived by his wife, Lois of North Platte; a son, Paul (Robin) McMullin of North Platte; two daughters, Bonnie L. Long and Raylene L. McMullin both of Cheyenne; 11grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Everett; and a sister, Marlene. Milo Neal Freeman

Milo Neal Freeman, 84 years, of North Platte, NE, passed away with his family at his side on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at Fort Morgan, CO.

Milo was born October 17, 1930, to William Parker and Mary Deliah Davis Freeman in Garfield County, NE, and grew up east of Burwell, NE. Following his mother’s death, Milo lived with his sister and her husband, Esther and Jim Taylor, north of Burwell and attended country school to the 8th grade. Milo then worked on Floyd Taylor’s ranch which was in the Burwell area.

Milo served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1949. Following his discharge he returned to Burwell where he met Goldie Dean Barnum of Stapleton, NE. They were married on July 25, 1953 in Stapleton where they lived until moving to North Platte in 1960. Milo then worked for Armour Packing Plant, Central Nebraska Pack, Fairmont’s Dairy and Beveridge Well Drilling before starting Freeman Pump and Well, retiring from there at the age of 60.

Milo and Goldie enjoyed square dancing and he liked to fish with her dad. Milo also enjoyed deer hunting and hunting coyotes with his hounds. He played cards and enjoyed coffee at the Skelly Inn.

He is survived by his daughter, Doris (Andy) Young, and sons, Stanley (Charlene) Freeman, Gerald (Becky) Freeman and Leon (Carla) Freeman, all of North Platte; 11 grandchildren, Robert (Amanda) Freeman, Deanna (Jeremy) Storm, Mandy Baker (fiancé, Chris Slatt), Amy (Cash) Cauffman, Michael Freeman, Tara (Chris) O’Dell, Amber (Rory) Berliner, Dustin Freeman, Shawna (Brett) Bowman, Michelle (Tom) Miller and Bo Young; three step grandchildren, Jeremy (Angie) Sanford, Stacy (Jed) Baxter and Robby Terry (Whitney Brown); 23 great-grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; four step great great-grandchildren; his sister, Esther (Jim) Taylor, of Burwell; and many nieces, nephews and other family.

After 54 years of marriage, Goldie passed away in 2008. Milo is also preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary; five brothers, Morris, Harvey, Harold, Melvin ‘Ray’ and Virgil Freeman; an infant sister, Emma Mae, and his sister, Lurverda Long.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Pastor Jeremy Rienke officiating. Casual dress is requested. Burial will follow in the McCain Cemetery southeast of Stapleton. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements. Herlinda D. Kopecky

Herlinda D. Kopecky, 75, of North Platte, NE, passed away Monday, February 16, 2015, at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Herlinda was born June 24, 1939, to Ismael Arguello and Jovita (Ramirez) Soto in San Francisco, Mexico. She grew up and attended school in Mexico.

Herlinda later married Willie Burt ‘Bill’ Dailey of Arnold, NE and they made their home in Arnold before moving to North Platte. Bill passed away in 1969.

Herlinda worked in North Platte as a housekeeper for Dr. and Mrs. Max Raines, Mr. and Mrs. Kay, Mr. and Mrs. Huebner, as well as others in the area for over 30 years. On July 7, 1984, Herlinda married Peter J. Kopecky at North Platte where they made their home.

Herlinda was a member of the First Christian Church and was actively involved with many church activities. She enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and loved being outdoors. Herlinda especially loved her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Peter, of North Platte; sons, Joe (Debbie) Dailey, of Omaha, NE, and Jerry (Teresa) Dailey, of Papillion, NE; a daughter, Linda (Mat) Fhuere, of Utah; five grandchildren, Jared Dailey, Trevor Dailey, Matthew (Bobbie) Fhuere, Anthony Fhuere and Rayce Fhuere; a brother, Ismael, and sisters, Alicia, Maria, Ana Maria, all of Mexico; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family.

Along with her first husband, Bill, Herlinda was preceded in death by her parents, Ismael and Jovita Soto; a sister, Rita; a grandson, Zachary; and two baby grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 20, 2015, at the First Christian Church with Pastor Timothy Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the North Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church.
