Ronald Lewis Boltz, age 64 of North Platte, passed away January 7, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was born May 30, 1950 at North Platte to Robert and Lillian (Jones) Boltz. Ronald graduated from Brule High School and later served in the US Navy. He lived various places including Pensacola, FL and Washington, DC before returning to North Platte. Survivors include his sons, Chad Everett Boltz of Florida and Anthony M. (Catherine) Boltz of Maryland; three brothers, Bernie Boltz of North Platte, John (Patty) Boltz of Hastings, and James (Suzanne) Boltz of Lincoln; two sisters, Linda Jimenez of Lincoln and Ruth (Kevin) Cusic of North Platte; and two grandchildren, Robin and Kurt. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas; and a sister, Rebecca. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Florence “Susie” McFarland

Florence “Susie” McFarland, age 98 of North Platte, passed away January 8, 2015 at Centennial Park in North Platte. She was born on the family farm Northeast of Cozad to Danish emigrants, Henry and Kristina “Stena” (Jensen) Nielsen. Susie attended a one room country school where she learned English and also attended Cozad High School. She was united in marriage to Lloyd M. Arnold in 1935 living on the Arnold family farm where both their son and daughter were born. Susie was an accomplished pianist and gave lessons to many in Cozad and Eustis and also loved to play bridge and dance. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and was active in the women’s organizations, the Eastern Star and volunteered at the North Platte Railroad Station Canteen during WWII. She later married Francis Dale McFarland on May 6, 1983. Survivors include her son, L. Miller (Marty) Arnold of Loveland, CO, sister-in-law Ruth Nielsen of Cozad, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, husband, Dale McFarland and his family; sons, James D. (Kimberly) McFarland, Mark A. (Marcia) McFarland, and Robert D. (Roselyn) McFarland, grandchildren, Brian, Gregory, and Jody. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lloyd M. Arnold, daughter, Sharon Borden, brother, LaVern Nielsen, and sister, Leona DeBurnner. Online condolences maybe shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Ruth Ann Purdy

Ruth Ann Purdy, 69, of Omaha, passed away Jan. 6, 2015.

Ruth Ann Purdy was born on Dec. 17, 1945, in Hershey.

She was preceded in death by parents, Earl V. and Lela (Mason) Purdy; brother, Ivan Albert Purdy (Marilyn).

Ruth is survived by three nephews; one grandnephew; and two grandnieces.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, at the West Center Chapel of Heafey Hoffmann Dworak Cutler Mortuary, Omaha. Luncheon will follow the service at West Center Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, at the West Center Chapel.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, in the Lamont Cemetery southwest of Hershey. Memorials are suggested to Brookestone Village, 4330 S. 144 St., Omaha, NE 68144. Heafey Hoffmann Dworak Cutler, Omaha, is in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence Edward Tappan

Lawrence Edward Tappan went to heaven on December 30, 2014. Larry was born in Gandy, Nebraska, on March 28, 1939, to Claude (Bus) Tappan and Viola Alma (Elma) Tappan. He attended high school in Gandy, NE. In 1958, Larry enlisted in the Army and later received his GED. He served four years in the military and achieved Spec 5 rank. Larry and Sandra Gay Fellows were united in marriage on October 19, 1958. Larry was honorably discharged in 1961. He returned to his home in Neligh, NE. On February 2, 1962, Rocky Joe Tappan was born. Larry moved his family to Cozad, NE, and later to North Platte; where he served as a Police Officer and advanced to the rank of Detective. He attended the Police Academy in Nebraska. After 9 years and 9 months on the Force, he moved his family to Texas in 1972. Larry served as Deputy Sherriff of Chambers County, TX. Later he served with the Baytown Police Department and continued his education in Police Science. After leaving the police force he became a start-up manager of two truck stops, was a 24 hour restaurateur, and then became a self-employed truck owner-operator. Realizing retirement was near he opted to work for Olin Water Services and Grace Trucking. Larry and Sandy retired in 1998, moved back to Arnold, NE, and purchased his Aunt and Uncle’s home. After remodeling the house, he found that he needed something more to do. As Larry was prone to do, he kept looking for the right opportunity. The Woodward family farm, which had two lakes and the Loup River running through it, came up for sale. Larry immediately set out to purchase it. Once he took possession of the property, he started to burn buildings and then developed them. The farm later became the Double T Campground site, which was used for church and numerous other events. He heard about the housing real estate market in Arizona City, AZ, from the France family and was told of the opportunity to make money by flipping houses. In January 2010, he and Sandy bought their first house to flip in Arizona City. After 3 months they returned to Nebraska. Once again Sandy became very ill. Larry called for listings of houses. The France family helped them to purchase their home where they currently live. Larry enjoyed his family, church, friends, and gardening. He moved his worship time from Casa Grande Christian Church to the Evangelical Methodist Church in Arizona City. He and his friends from the church enjoyed flying model airplanes. Larry is survived by his wife, Sandra Gay Tappan, of Arizona City, AZ; his son, Rocky Joe Tappan and daughter-in-law, Doris, of La Grange, TX; Aunt and Uncle Arlene and Earl Lamb of Idaho; Uncle Lynn and Flora Snow of Alabama and Aunt Norma of Washington; brothers and sisters in-law; Dick Fellows, of Brady, NE; Pat and Bill France, of Lexington, NE; Sharon Nejedley, of North Platte, NE; Kevin and Vicki Fellows, of Etoile, TX; Joel and Susan Fellows, of Wasilla, Alaska; and many other loved nieces, nephews, and very special friends. He was preceded in death by; mother, Viola Alma Tappan; father, Claude Wayne Tappan; uncles and aunts, William Snow, Donna and Dean Jarmin, Violet and Wendell Auble, Elmer Snow, Walt and Myrtle Tappan, and Ceo Tapppan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank Nejedly, Mary Fellows, June and Pal Carpenter; and other loved family members. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Monday, January 12, 2015 at the Tallin Church south of Arnold. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm at the McCain Cemetery south of Stapleton with military honors. Shirleen A (Hill) Voris

Shirleen A (Hill) Voris, age 76 of Grand Island / North Platte Nebraska. She passed away January 4, 2015, at Madonna Rehab in Lincoln Ne. Shirleen was born November 5, 1938 in Sterling Colorado to Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Hill. She graduated from North Platte High School and attended college in 1958 at Sul Ross State in Alpine, TX. She was crowned Buffalo Bill Rodeo Queen in 1959. At the age of 10, she learned trick riding, Roman riding and toured the United States with the White Horse Ranch, Naper NE. She was a member of the Flying Cimmeron’s, displaying their trick riding talents. In 1964 she moved to Las Vegas where she worked many years training animals on stage. In 1973 she moved back to North Platte and married Dr. Rod Voris. She began giving jumping lessons and taking students to Fox Hunts in Omaha. Shirleen was a well-known trick rider, Roman rider and a master equestrian. She loved entertaining crowds with her equestrian skills and her artwork in her spare time. In 2010 she moved to Grand Island with her daughter Tami and started Lucky Star Ranch horse hotel, named after her legendary horse Lucky Star. She was a member of Velvet Spurs and a highlight at the equestrian shows at Nebraskaland Days. Survivors include daughters, Tami (Dan) Mowers and Amy (Dwayne) Butterfield; son, Mark (Janet) Voris; grandchildren, Tierny Aksamit, Rhianna Smith, Dan (Jen) Voris and Nathan Voris; foster granddaughter, Carmen; and great grandchildren Mackenze and Dylan Aksamit. Preceding her in death were her parents, Bill and Doe Hill; sister, Deanna Hill; and her husband, Dr. Rod Voris. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 am Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Reverend James Novakowski as celebrant. Burial will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery. Kevin James Manary, 51 of North Platte passed away January 5, 2015 at his home. He was born September 13, 1963 in North Platte to James and Diana (Thompson) Manary. Kevin attended Hall Elementary School, and graduated from North Platte High School. He worked on the family ranch in northern Lincoln County all his life. Kevin’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, trapping, and shooting sports. He enjoyed working cattle with his dad.
Survivors include his father, James (Joan) Manary of North Platte; brother, Monty Manary of North Platte; and several other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother.

Leonard Paul Vyhnalek

Leonard Paul Vyhnalek, age 79 of North Platte, passed away Thursday January 1, 2015 at Great Plains Health.
Leonard was born on January 30, 1935 in Lincoln, NE to Joseph and Helen (Bezpalec) Vyhnalek. He attended St. James Grade School and Crete High School, graduating with the class of 1952. He graduated from Doane College in 1958 with a BA Degree; from UNL Law School in 1961 with a JD Degree; and was admitted to the NE State Bar Assoc. in June of 1961. He joined the army and was commissioned 1st Lt. in April 1961 and was promoted to Captain USAR JAGC in December 1962. After leaving the military he was employed at Beatty & Morgan Attorneys in North Platte, before becoming a partner to Beatty and Morgan from 1967 to 1976. He was admitted to Practice United States Supreme Court in 1972; and became Lincoln County Public Defender from 1969 to 1975 in North Platte. He was a partner in McCarthy, McCarthy & Vyhnalek from 1976 until 1986, when he began a solo practice. Leonard never really did retire!
During Leonard’s distinguished career as an attorney, in which he celebrated 50 years as an attorney in 2011, he attained many impressive achievements. Highlighted are a monumental judgment in one client’s favor that was nearly $2,000,000; the controversial case in which he defended Charles Simants; as well as trying several first degree murder cases in Lincoln, Keith, Dawson and Cherry Counties. He tried numerous civil cases both to Juries and Bench Trials; he was President of the Lincoln County Bar Assoc.; and Western NE Bar Assoc.; and served on many NE Bar Assoc. Committees. Aside from his love of the law, he enjoyed hunting, fly fishing and watching Husker football.
Leonard is survived by his children Kristen (James) Johnston of Gaithersburg, MD and Joseph (Kristin) Vyhnalek of North Platte; grandchildren Alex, Max and Jessica Johnston of Gaithersburg, MD and Kylie, Deklan and Tiernan Vyhnalek of North Platte; sister Mary Ann (Ron) Hagen of Bellevue, NE; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Wanda in 2010; and a granddaughter Natalie Jo Vyhnalek.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday January 5, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Reverend James Golka as Celebrant. Cremation was chosen and inurnment will follow at Ft. Richard E. Fuller

Richard E. Fuller, age 90 of North Platte passed away December 13, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Cozad. He was born June 22, 1924 in Hayes County, NE to James and Alice (Hajek) Fuller. Dick attended school at Hayes Center, and then enlisted in the United States Marines in 1942. He served in WWI in the Pacific Islands, where his regiment was accommodated for valiant service. He was wounded in action, for which he received the Purple Heart, and then was sent to San Diego, Balboa Hospital for his recovery before his honorable discharge. He returned home, back to the farm where he met the love of his life, Bessie Lorraine McCuiston. They were married October 8, 1949 and recently celebrated their 65th anniversary. To this union 4 children completed their family, James, Gail, Beverly, and Barbara. Dick worked at Northwestern Public Service and then hired on the Union Pacific Railroad as a switchman/brakeman for 34 years. After retirement, fishing, gardening, and traveling were enjoyed.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Lorraine Fuller of North Platte; children, Gail (Steve) Waltman of San Diego, CA and Barbara (Darwin) Thompson of Casper, WY; grandchildren, Brandi Walker of Kearney, Lesley (Dane) Lay of Ramona, CA, Andrea (Zeb) Lyon of Windsor, CO, Jason Thompson, and Bailey Thompson both of Casper, WY; great-grandchildren, Marley Lyon, Stella Lyon, Talon Lyon, Ruby Lay, James Walker, and Hailey Walker a sister, Beryle Burke of Vail, AZ; and a brother, Sheldon Fuller of Las Vegas, NV.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James; a daughter Beverly; siblings, Zona Wire, Bonnie Cook, Neva Harris, Arden Fuller, Mildred Law, Mary Lou (Don) Fries, and Darrell Fuller.

Kyle Alexander Thomas, 19, of North Platte passed away December 29, 2014 at his home. He was born on February 27, 1995 in Jefferson City, MO to Brent and Vicky (Clark) Thomas.
Kyle graduated from North Platte High School in 2013. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, building demolition derby cars with his dad, music, playing the guitar and entertaining people with his music.
Survivors include his father, Brent Thomas of North Platte; brother, Kalor (Jessica) Moore of Topeka, KS; sister, Kelsey Thomas of North Platte; grandparents, Darline Freytag, Gilbert and Kathleen Thomas all of Goodland, KS; aunt, Kelsey (Mark) Schlichenmayer of North Platte; aunt, Rhonda (Duane) Rice of Goodland, KS; uncle, Shawn (Niki) Clark of Hays, KS; cousins, Phillip Schlichenmayer of North Platte, Page (Cale) Ely of Goodland, KS, Colin Clark and Kylie Clark both of Hays, KS, and Laura (Rochelle Berghenoff) Rice of Brooklyn, NY.
