Bethel Ann Duling

Bethel Ann Duling, 64, of North Platte, NE, died Sunday, September 14, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Cozad, NE.

Bethel was born March 17, 1950, to Wilfred Wilson and Florence Irene Wilson Duling at Sidney, NE where she grew up. Bethel graduated from Sidney High School in 1968 then worked for Dairy Queen and Cabelas.

In 1975, Bethel joined the U.S. Air Force in Denver, CO and was later stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Bethel moved to North Platte in 1979, following her discharge. She went to work for Snell’s Electric then B & D Office Supply. She later moved to Denver where she was a technician for E & R Entertainment Company and traveled to different states with the company. Bethel returned to North Platte in 1997 and helped as a volunteer at the hospital.

She was a member of P.R. Halligan Post #163 American Legion. Bethel was friendly and always helping her neighbors.

Survivors include her special adopted friend, Marilyn Canady, of North Platte and her family, Robin (Mark) Loose, of Scottsbluff and Becky (James) Plunk, of North Platte; her dog, Muffin; two brothers, Lyle (Karon) Duling, of Stapleton, NE and Lonnie (Darlene) Duling, of Wheat Ridge, CO; five nieces and nephews, Shannon (Joy) Duling, Daphne (John) Fashing, Mark (Stephanie) Duling, Pamela (Mark) Herbic and Jeff Duling; six great-nieces and nephews; and other family.

Bethel was preceded in death by her father, Wilfred Duling, and her mother and stepfather, Florence and Ron Ahlberg.

Cremation was chosen. A memorial graveside service with military honors will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2014, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. James Louis Maciejewski

James Louis Maciejewski was born September 19, 1928, at Ashton, NE to Louis and Mary Maciejewski and grew up on a farm near Loup City, NE. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps before going to college and becoming a CPA.

Jim passed away in North Platte on Sunday, November 4, 2012, at the age of 84. Following his death, he donated his body to science at the Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Jim was cremated following his gift to science.

Graveside Memorial Service with military honors will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 19, 2014, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery with Father Jim Novakowski officiating. David L Houchin

David L Houchin, 69 of North Platte passed away September, 13 2014. He was born on May 4, 1945 to Paul K and Myrtle E (Lantz) Houchin in North Platte where he lived most of his life with the exception of a year or so that he spent living in California with his brother and his parents. He was the youngest of their 5 children. On July 23, 1976 he married Linda Bending of North Platte and they were blessed with a daughter a year later.
David was a carpenter by trade and spent many years working at Sandhills Industries. Later he worked at American Door Company as a skin flipper and after leaving there went into semi retirement and for the past 12 years has been a paper carrier for the North Platte Telegraph.
He enjoyed morning coffee with his brother Henry, walking his dog, listening to music and playing the guitar. He was an avid train collector and spent much of his free time watching westerns especially John Wayne movies.
He is survived by his four legged pal Sammy, his daughter Laura (Mike) Honeywell of Stapleton, five grandchildren Shyanne, Johanna, Alexander, Mikayla and Daniel Honeywell all of Stapleton, his brother Henry (Harvie) Houchin of North Platte, his sister; Pauline (Vernon) Waits of Tryon, Brother-in-law (Steve Weston) of North Platte and Sister-in-law (Kathy Kenton) of Richmond, WA as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends at the apartment complex where he lived.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister (Kathy Weston), a sister-in-law (Mildred Houchin) and a brother (Blaine Kenton).

Barbara J. Cassell

Barbara J. Cassell, age 63 of North Platte, passed away in North Platte on Thursday September 11, 2014.
Barbara was born on November 19, 1951 in North Platte, NE to Wayne and Alberta (Kelley) Deidel. She grew up and attended school in North Platte. Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family and pets, and was an avid football fan of the Huskers.
Barbara is survived by her children Richard (Teresa) Bates, Michell (Joe Rimply) McLaughlin, Daniel (Amber Buss) McLaughlin all of North Platte; grandchildren Lindsey and Samantha Wernsman, Montana Baird, Abby and Ares McLaughlin; brother Ron (Carolyn) Deidel of North Platte; sister Linda (Del) Skinner of Chester, NE; Aunt Audrey Deidel and Uncle Carl Deidel; as well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Cassell; and parents Wayne and Alberta Deidel.

Glenndean Paxton

Glenndean Paxton, age 81 of North Platte, passed away Thursday September 11, 2014.
Glenndean was born on July 21, 1933 in Marysville, KS to Leon Glenn and Evelyn (McCarty) Paxton. She graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1952. She cooked at a number of restaurants and was a maid at many hotels. She was a housekeeper for the Neville’s for many years. She enjoyed crafts, reading and watching sports and cooking shows.
Glenndean is survived by her sister Nancy Fisher-Paxton of North Platte; 2 brothers Lynn (Mary Lou) Paxton of Denver and Frank (Loretta) Paxton of North Platte; 26 nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers James Robert, Wayne Arlin and Terry Edwin; and sisters Virginia Anderson, Ellen Sparks, Leonna Paxton, Helen Simco and Janet Pekrul.

Clarence A. Romans

Clarence A. Romans, 83, of North Platte passed away September 10, 2014 at the Callaway Good Life Center. He was born in Arnold, NE to Robert and Hazel “Irene” Blowers Romans on April 3, 1931. Clarence grew up in Arnold, graduating from Arnold High School with the class of 1948. He attended Kearney State College for a year before returning to the family farm. On March 26, 1953 in Hastings, NE he was united in marriage to Lois J. Brown. To this union 4 children were born, Terrie, Sherrie, Tam Allan, and Bonnie. Clarence served in the United States Army in the Korean War. After his discharge he returned home and resumed farming. Due to health reasons, Clarence sold his farm and moved to Lincoln, NE. He volunteered with RSVP at the senior center for over 20 years. In 2010 he moved to North Platte to be closer to his daughters. Clarence was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include 4 children, Terrie Christensen of North Platte, NE, Sherrie Wienke of Madrid, NE, Tam (Sue) Romans of Lincoln, NE, and Bonnie (Charlie) Morland of North Platte, NE; sister, Ruth Chrisp of Auburn, NE; brother, Duane Romans of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren, Kristin (Vincent) Johnson of North Platte, NE, Tracy (Ryan) Franzen of North Platte, NE, Trenton (Katlin) Wienke of Lincoln, NE, Brady (Hannah) Romans of Lincoln, NE, Kisha Morland of North Platte, NE, Kayla Morland of Omaha, NE, Kurt Morland, and Kasey Morland both of North Platte, NE; great-grandchildren, Ryder, Cash, and Winter Johnson, Chloe & Payzlie Franzen, and Thomas Wienke.

Russell D. Eyten, Sr., 48, of North Platte, went to his Heavenly home on Sept. 5, 2014. He was born Sept 18, 1965 to Raymond J., Sr. and Iva Joyce Eyten. Russell graduated from North Platte High School in 1984. He was united in marriage to Donna Herder in September of 1986. To this union they had two sons, Nicholas Allen and Russell D., Jr. Russell then married Fredrecia M. Licking on May 20, 1995 in North Platte. He was employed as a truck driver for many different companies. His last job was rail crew. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Fredrecia; three sons, David Lee, Nicholas Allen and Russell D. Jr. Eyten; a brother, Raymond John (Lisa) Eyten; two sisters, Alice (Steve) Paul and Ronda (Dwight) Livingston; eight nieces and nephews; three grandchildren; two uncles, Gerhardt (Janice) of Doniphan and Donald (Leona) of Lincoln; an Aunt, Margerie Huff of Hastings; and several other family members and special friends. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Dave Logsdon officiating. Cremation was chosen. Glenn Roye Mulholland

Glenn Roye Mulholland, 83, of North Platte, NE, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2014, at Tiffany Square in Grand Island, NE.

Glenn was born April 20, 1932, to Roye Artice and Mary Ella Sewell Mulholland in Lampasas, TX. He spent his childhood in Austin, TX and in the Hill Country northwest of Austin. The family then followed Defense Construction during the war years, returning to Austin in 1943 where Glenn attended school and was an apprentice newspaper pressman.

He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950 then met Donna Mae Schlepp. They were married in Greeley, CO in 1952. Glenn later served in Korea during the Korean War. Upon his return to the states, Glenn was assigned to Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY. He was a Bomb Navigator Technician, working on B-47 aircraft’s. Glenn was later assigned to be a Ballistic Missile Analysis on the Atlas Missile Program then finished his career as a Bomb Navigator Technician, working on B-52’s.

After a 20 year career, Glenn retired from the Air Force in 1970 with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Following his retirement, the family moved to North Platte where he was a partner, then owner, of Al’s Gun and Reel.

Glenn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He was also a devoted member of Platte Valley Lodge #32 AF&AM. Glenn served as Master in 2003, Secretary from 2004 to the present, was appointed Deputy Custodian and served in that position for a good number of years. He was also president of the North Platte Temple Craft and a member of the North Platte Yorkrite, Tehmah Shrine Temple and the Hastings Scottish Rite where he was bestowed the KKCH. In his spare time, Glenn restored antique cars.

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Donna, and daughter, Linda Sanders, both of Grand Island; a son, Steven (Vicki) Mulholland, of Tecumseh, NE; five grandchildren, Jessica and Zach Sanders, Michael (Sherry) Mulholland, Marissa (Mark) James and Megan Buckley; nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Nancy Burson, of Austin, TX; a brother, Richard Mulholland, of Fort Worth, TX; and other family.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Roye and Mary, and stepmother, Olga Mulholland; and a half brother.

Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Polly Deppen Williams officiating. Inurnment with Masonic Rites and full military honors will be 1:30 p.m. on October 2, 2014, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.

Derold Emerson Parker

Derold Emerson Parker, 84, of North Platte, NE, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014, in North Platte.

Derold was born September 12, 1929, to Omer and Esther Bauer Parker at Venango, NE where he grew up. He attended school in Venango until the 11th grade when the family moved to Brule, NE. Derold graduated from Brule High School then was drafted into the U.S. Army in August 1948. He made a career in the Army, serving for over 20 years before retiring in November 1972. He later worked for the Pioneer Seed Company for 20 years.

In May of 1981, Derold married Glenna Marie Cole McGowan in Julesburg, CO. They made their home in Nebraska, living in Madrid, Wallace and North Platte.

Derold was a life member of the V.F.W. Post #1504 and a member of F.O. Eagles # 2839. He was a past member of P.R. Halligan Post #163 American Legion and the Moose Lodge. He liked to fish and garden and enjoyed giving away his produce.

Survivors include his wife, Glenna, of North Platte; seven sons, Jeff (Christine) Parker, of Loyal, WI, David (Heidie) Parker, of Cartersville, GA and Frank (Georgia) Parker, Phillip (Lisa) Parker, Scott Parker, Curtis Parker and Tim Parker, all of Oregon; his stepchildren, Alan (Stace) Metcalf, of Salt Lake City, UT, Susan (Bob) Weech, of Weiser, ID, Carol Metcalf, of Downie, ID and Lori (Doug) Kirts, of North Platte; numerous grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sisters, Ann (Clark) Varnum, of Cheyenne, WY and Velma Rice, of Holyoke, CO; a brother, Vernon (Sharon) Parker, of Gering, NE; a sister-in-law, Elaine Parker, of Big Springs, NE; brother-in-law, Bernard Lehn, of North Platte; many nieces, nephews and other family.

Derold was preceded in death by his parents, Omer and Esther; two sister, Delores Swanson and Vivian Lehn; his brother, Allen; and two brothers-in-law, Allen Rice and Dale Swanson.

Cremation was chosen. A memorial graveside service with military honors will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2014, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery with Chaplain Gary Smith officiating. Richard “Dick” Thomas Linn

Richard “Dick” Thomas Linn, 83, of North Platte, passed away September 2, 2014 at Great Plains Health. He was born July 28, 1931 to Robert and Irma (Arthur) Linn at Emerald, CO in a coal camp. In the early years he grew up in the coal camp. The family later moved to Florence where he was raised and graduated from Florence High School. In school he was in the band and member of the National Honor Society. In 1948, he started with the Union Pacific Railroad in Cheyenne, WY, moving to North Platte with the “Freight House Gang”, when they opened it here in North Platte in 1949. On December 2, 1952, Dick was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Hayes at North Platte. Born to this union were two children, Michael Steven and Christina Kathleen. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Union Pacific Junior Oldtimers, Elks (where he was chosen as Elk of the Year), Eagles; life member at Lincoln County Museum; and he was active in boy and girl scouts. Dick also helped with bingo at the Elks and the Senior Center. He enjoyed fishing, wining several Master Angler Awards for both Rainbow Trout and Walleye; woodcarving and his garden. Dick always said “A day of fishing adds a day to your life”.
He is survived by his daughter, Chris Linn of North Platte; grandchildren, Martin, Marc, Mikaila and Mitchel; nieces and nephews, Patricia Hatz, Robert Ewing, Jim Linn, Dee Jones, Jeff Linn, Lenny Kirts, David Kirts, Belinda Dudenhoffer, Thom Hayes, James Hayes, Lori Hoaglind, Brad Schulz and Kay Glover; three sisters-in-law, Patricia Kirts, Linda Schulz and Karen Hayes; brother-in-law, Richard Hayes; and many great nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley on Oct. 28, 2000; a son, Michael Steven on June 18, 2000; three brothers, Robert (Marge), George (Wyota), and Jim (Joyce) Linn; sister, Margaret (Ralph) Ewing; and brother-in-law, Lyle Kirts.
